Polymer solutions due to their chemical and physical properties requires for efficient spinning with different intensity of the charge. This corresponds to the geometry of the design of the spinning electrode. The electrode may have geometry in the shape of a smooth cylinder to obtain a less intense charge. Contrary barbed roll or roll with strings produces locally extremely intensive charge. For selected geometry of electrodes FEM models describing the intensity and the potential of the electrostatic field have been established and the results were compared with the experimentally determined results. From a comparison of the results it is evident that on the basis of the FE model can be formed with a certain accuracy to design suitably shaped electrodes to obtain the most efficient process of production of nanofibers. Abstract A finite-element stress analysis of a one-piece, integrated, all-composite shaft and coupling is presented. In addition to a brief discussion of design-driving parameters, some limitations of the analytical techniques used for design development are described. The 3D finite-element method (FEM) was then used to evaluate critical stresses and strains experienced by the shaft coupling. A comparison of the results from the finite-element analysis and those from static bending, axial, and torsional tests conducted on these prototype shafts yielded excellent correlation. Some important considerations in the development of the FE model and the correlation of results with tests, especially in the design of composite materials, are addressed.

Virtual hybrid simulation is a computationally-efficient method that enables coupling of two or more finite element analysis programs. In this study, benefits of this technique in predicting both cyclic and seismic response of a one-story one-bay frame equipped with a Triangular-plate Added Damping and Stiffness (TADAS) damper are evaluated. For this purpose, a detailed FE model of the damper is built in Abaqus to take into account precise modelling of its hysteretic behavior as well as a number of important features related to the geometric characteristics of the including parts of the device, while the remainder of the structure is modelled in OpenSees. Continuous exchange of the data between the coupled codes is conducted through the software framework, OpenFresco. Comparison of the results with experimental outcomes is presented, which proves the ability of the introduced technique in modelling the behavior of such structures in an efficient manner while preserving sufficient accuracy. At the end, a series of dynamic virtual hybrid simulations of the frame are performed which provide useful insights into design of TADAS frames.

Electrochemical machining is a process combined with electrochemical and mechanical actions. It has the advantage of higher efficiency, lower surface roughness, better quality and simpler equipment etc. According to the current development, topology optimization was introduced for the improvement of electrochemical machine tool and applied by the ANSYS software in this paper. Based on the result of the topology optimization, some improvement was done to the electrochemical machine tool. On the basis of the new FE model of the improved machine tool, the modal analysis and static analysis were carried out. By the comparison of the results between the former and latter, the weight of the machine tool is substantially reduced while the stiffness and strength reserved.

This paper elucidated an attempt to determine the physical properties of some selected soils at different location under Mymensingh districts. The properties of soils were determined using standard methods. Field moisture content was more or less similar for all the locations. The dry unit weights of selected seven soils for Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Valuka, Muktagacha, Trisal, Madhupur, Chorkhai and Shomvoganj sites were found to be 17.61, 16.50, 17.00, 17.50, 15.50, 16.40 and 16.20 kN/m3, respectively while the specific gravities were found as 2.67, 2.66, 2.68, 2.70, 2.69, 2.72 and 2.65, respectively also the values of plastic limits of soils were found to be 16.00, 17.00, 15.50, 18.50, 16.00, 17.20 and 14.00 percent, respectively whereas the plasticity index values were 16.25, 14.50, 15.00, 17.00, 18.00, 13.60 and 15.50 percent, respectively for the above locations. The liquid and plastic limits varied for all the locations but the plasticity index values were found more or less similar for all the soil samples. The friction angles were found more or less similar while cohesion varied for different locations. The properties of soils thus obtained can be used for soils of these areas of Bangladesh. A relation between the gradations with plasticity indices of different soils was also characterized. Key words: Dry unit weights, plastic limits, plasticity index, shear stress and internal friction angle.

AbstractOne of the most important problems with regard to the Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) gas sensors technology is the deposition of chemosensitive films exhibiting desirable chemical and physical properties. The electrospraying technology seems to be a very promising method of the film deposition in this case. It allows the chemosensitive layers to be obtained out of almost any chemicals and their mixtures in a controllable way. The process gives the possibility to generate specific films with properties unattainable if other methods were to be applied. For example, it allows to deposit solutions of polymers and suspensions of solids in polymer solutions which can degrade in the process of thermal evaporation deposition. The paper describes the results of experiments with electrospraying technique in order to obtain Nafion® films. The influence of the process parameters on film sensitivity has been studied.
