The effects on the properties of recycled latex glove (RL-G) filled Epoxidized Natural Rubber (ENR 50) were studied. Both compounds were prepared by two roll mill at five different compositions of RL-G (5, 15, 25, 35 and 50 phr). The size range of RL-G particles i.e., S1 (300μm-700μm) and S2 (3cm-5cm) were used. The properties such as tensile properties (tensile strength, elongation at break, and stress at 100% elongation) and morphology studies were determined. The results indicated that the both size, S1 and S2 of recycled latex glove filled ENR 50 blends exhibited an increased in tensile strength and elongation at break for increasing weight ratio of RL-G. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the fracture surfaces shows that the fine size, S1 RL-G/ENR50 exhibited high surface roughness and matrix tearing lines than the coarse size, S2 thus improving the compatibility of RL-G/ENR50 compounds. The results overall indicated that the fine size, S1of RL-G filled ENR50 contributed to the better properties such as tensile strength and surface morphology compared to the coarse size, S2 mainly at 15 phr of RL-G content.

The effects of different sizes of Batu Reput (Dolomite) filler which are smaller size (<63μm) and bigger size (75-150μm) on tensile and morphological properties of Batu Reput (Dolomite) filled SMR L and epoxidized natural rubber (ENR-50) blends were investigated. Results indicated that, the tensile properties, such as tensile strength (TS), elongation at break (Eb) and stress at 100% elongation (M100) of Batu Reput (Dolomite) filled SMR L higher than Batu Reput (Dolomite) filled ENR-50 blends, particularly, at 15 phr of smaller size of Batu Reput (Dolomite). The scanning electron microscopy studies proved, Batu Reput (Dolomite) filled SMR L illustrated a higher Batu Reput (Dolomite) - SMR L matrix interaction compared with Batu Reput (Dolomite) filled ENR-50.

Thermoplastic elastomers based on blending of epoxidized natural rubber with 30 mol% epoxide (ENR-30) with polyamide-12 (PA-12) (i.e., ENR-30/PA-12) and blending of ENR-30 with co-polyamide-12 (ENR-30/CO-PA-12) were prepared by dynamic vulcanization technique. It was found that the dynamically cured ENR-30/PA-12 blends exhibited higher tensile strength, Youngs modulus and hardness than those of the ENR-30/CO-PA-12 blends. However, the elongation at break of the ENR-30/PA-12 blend was very poor and hence the tension set could not be determined. On the other hand, the ENR-30 contents in the dynamically cured ENR-30/CO-PA-12 influence on various properties. These include lowering of stiffness and tensile properties together with enhancing elastic properties (i.e. lower tension set and tan ) of the blends.

Effects of alkanolamide (ALK) addition on cure characteristics, swelling behaviour and tensile properties of silica-filled natural rubber (NR)/chloroprene rubber (CR) blends were investigated. The ALK was synthesized from Refined Bleached Deodorized Palm Stearin (RBDPS) and diethanolamine, and incorporated into the silica-filled NR/CR blends as a non-toxic rubber additive. The ALK loadings were 0.0, 1.0, 3.0, 5.0 and 7.0 phr. It was found that the ALK exhibited shorter scorch and cure times and higher elongation at break of the silica-filled NR/CR blends. The ALK also exhibited higher torque differences, tensile modulus and tensile strength at a 1.0 phr of ALK loading and then decreased with further increases in the ALK loading. The swelling measurement proved that the 1.0 phr loading of ALK caused the highest degree in crosslink density of the silica-filled NR/CR blends.

Banana fiber (BF) was utilized as a reinforcing filler for natural rubber (NR). BF/NR composites containing banana fiber contents of 5, 10, and 15 parts per hundred parts of rubber (phr) were mixed on a two-roll mill machine. The hardness, tensile properties of BF/NR composites were studied. It was found that the hardness and moduli of BF/NR composites are higher than that of NR. Despite tensile strength and strain at break of BF/NR composite lower than NR. Moreover, hardness and moduli of BF/NR composites increased, while tensile strength and strain at break decreased with the increase in banana fiber content. Thus, banana fiber exhibited improvement in the stiffness significantly of NR composites

Epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) and a superabsorbent polymer composite (SAPC) along with other minor components were mechanically blended in an internal mixer (Brabender Plasticorder) at 40°C and 60 r/min rotor speed with 80% fill factor. The SAPC was synthesized by grafting polyacrylamide onto hydroxyethyl cellulose backbones and adding bentonite clay. The first water-swelling behavior was investigated with alternative epoxidation levels of the ENR. Water-swellable rubber (WSR) performed well in terms of water absorbency, and weight loss was achieved with 50 mole% epoxidation level, so this ENR was chosen for the rubber matrix from which WSR was prepared with various contents of SAPC (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 phr). The results indicated that SAPC loading positively affected water absorbency, which was resulted by increasing weight loss and loss of mechanical properties, such as tensile strength and elongation at break. However, the modulus increased with SAPC content. WSR formulated from ENR-50, SAPC, and other ingredients resulting in good water-swelling behaviors and modulus, while the tensile strength and elongation at break had opposition. SAPC was an important factor to control the overall WSR properties.

Thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) based on epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) and polypropylene (PP) were prepared in an internal mixer at 180°C. The effects of curing systems (i.e., sulfur and peroxide) on morphological, rheological, thermal and mechanical properties were studied. It is found that the sulfur cured TPVs show higher tensile strength, tear strength and elongation at break than those cured with the DCP systems. The rheological analysis indicates that TPVs cured with DCP system show lower apparent shear viscosity than those with sulfur system. SEM studies show that TPVs vulcanized with DCP system exhibit smaller and finely dispersed rubber domains, which provides it higher thermal stability than sulfur cured TPVs.

Wollastonite is one type of inorganic filler. The effects of wollastonite loading on tensile properties of wollastonite (WS) filled high density polyethylene (HDPE)/Natural Rubber (NR) composites was studied. The HDPE/NR/WS composites were prepared by using Brabender EC Plus at a temperature of 180 °C with rotor speed of 50 rpm for 10 min. It was found that the increasing of wollastonite loading had decreased the tensile strength and elongation at break, whereas the Young’s modulus of the HDPE/NR/WS composites had increased with the increasing of wollastonite loading.

Mangosteen peel powder is one of the most important bio-antioxidants. Adding mangosteen peel powder as filler into natural rubber latex compound for latex glove film formation via dipping process can help the green anti-microbial properties. The physical (smoothness and thickness of film) and mechanical properties (tensile strength and elongation at break) of latex film are still good. Therefore, adding mangosteen peel powder into natural rubber latex gloves can reduce the anti-allergic and antimicrobial on the film surface. Mangosteen peel powder ground by rapid mill is fine particle and high surface area 2.4216 m2/g suitable for homogeneous and compatible for adding into natural rubber latex compound. Ceramic hand mold was dipped into the Ca (NO3)2 coagulant only 3 seconds, then dipped into the natural rubber latex compounds added mangosteen peel powder for 15 seconds, withdrawn hand mold slowly, cured in the oven at 120°C for 30 min, then dried at room temperature, and casted it off the hand mold. The obtained natural latex glove films added mangosteen peel powder are smooth, clear, and thin film surface, the highest elongation at break 803.2711 ± 31.6477%, good tensile strength 30.2933 ± 6.0218 MPa, dense film without water leakage, and good contact angle.
