Based on the theoretical analysis on the coupled vehicle-bridge vibration, this paper simulates the action of the moving vehicle load on a bridge structure with a sprung mass model, and obtains the dynamic response of the simply-supported bridge structure under the moving vehicle load through computation by finite element method (FEM). Through checking computations of classic examples, this paper proves the applicability of this computation method.

Abstract The finite element method has been used widely in tire engineering. Most tire simulations using the finite element method are static analyses, because tires are very complex nonlinear structures. Recently, transient phenomena have been studied with explicit finite element analysis codes. In this paper, the authors demonstrate the feasibility of tire cornering simulation using an explicit finite element code, PAM-SHOCK. First, we propose the cornering simulation using the explicit finite element analysis code. To demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed simulation, computed cornering forces for a 175SR14 tire are compared with experimental results from an MTS Flat-Trac Tire Test System. The computed cornering forces agree well with experimental results. After that, parametric studies are conducted by using the proposed simulation.

MFPSE, Micro Free Piston Swing Engine, is a new type of miniature internal combustion engine based on the working principle of two-stroke swing engine. The successful development and operation of this type of miniature internal combustion engine provide important significance for the miniaturization of the internal combustion engine, and provide a number of important research theory, computation method and experimental data. In this article, according to the work characteristics and co-ordination requirements of MFPSE (Micro Free Piston Swing Engine), whose strain interference is analyzed using finite element analysis software, the problems and interference of the center pendulum and cylinder is found evidently. The data of analysis provides theory basis for the MFPSE’s structural optimization, and is critical to improve the performance of MFPSE.

Damage to bridge structures caused by vessel collision is a risk for bridges crossing water traffic routes. Therefore, safety around vessel collision of existing and planned bridges is one of the key technical problems that must be solved by engineering technicians and bridge managers. In the evaluation of the reliability of the bridge structure, the two aspects of vessel-bridge collision force and structural resistance need to be considered. As there are many influencing parameters, the performance function is difficult to express by explicit function. This paper combines the moment method theory of structural reliability with finite element analysis and proposes a statistical moment method based on finite element analysis for the calculation of vessel-bridge collision reliability, which solves the structural reliability problem with a nonlinear implicit performance function. According to the probability model based on current velocity, vessel velocity, and vessel collision tonnage, the estimate points in the standard normal space are converted into estimate points in the original state space through the Rosenblatt reverse transform. According to the estimate points in the original state space and the simplified dynamic load model of vessel-bridge collision, the sample time-history curve of random vessel-bridge collision force is generated, the dynamic response of the bridge structure and the structural resistance of the bridge are calculated by establishing a finite element model, and the failure probability and reliability index of the bridge structure is calculated according to the fourth-moment method. The statistical moment based on the finite element analysis is based on the finite element analysis and the moment method theory of structural reliability. The statistical moment of the limited performance function is calculated through a quite small amount of confirmatory finite element analysis, and the structural reliability index and failure probability are obtained. The method can be widely used in existing finite element analysis programs, greatly reducing the number of finite element analyses needed and improving the efficiency of structural reliability analysis.

This paper presents a method to simulate the mechanical behavior of magnetorheological fluid (MRF) subjected to magnetic field in the pre-yield region in ANSYS. The main idea is to devide an MRF element into two coincident elements, one of them has density and viscosity without shear modulus while another has shear modulus without density and viscosity. Taking a simply supported MRF sandwich beam as an example, good results and reasonable conclusion are obtained by comparing the results with the theoretical analysis and experimental study of Ref.[1]. The validity of finite element analysis is also investigated in this paper. At present, there is no exactly appropriate element type in ANSYS to model MRF, this kind of method called coincident elements method (CEM) will provide a new way to model the structures with MRF or MR dampers in ANSYS, and it also has reference roles for the future development of related elements in ANSYS.

As an important forged part of an automobile, the inner hole of the half-shaft bushing must be formed directly. However, the process requires many steps, and how the forging, or deformation, is spread over the production steps directly affects the die life and forging force required. In this paper, the three steps involved in directly forging a half shaft bushing's inner hole are simulated using the two-dimensional finite element method. Further more, we improve the forging process. From numerical calculation, the improved necessary forging force is found to be only half the original force, and the die life is doubled.

The effect of diamond shape on the thermal conductivity of diamond/Cu composites was studied by combine finite element method with the tests. The finite element result show that the thermal conductivity of the hexoctahedron diamond/Cu composites and the square diamond/Cu composites is 819 W/m·K and 1013 W/m·K respectively. And the testing results indicate that the thermal conductivity of the single hexoctahedron diamond/Cu composites and the hexoctahedron mixed with the square diamond/Cu composites is 659W/m·K and 720 W/m·K respectively. The testing results consist with the finite element calculation. Under the same circumstances, more {100} faces can bring in less overall thermal resistance in the composites thus improve the thermal conductivity of the composites. The results show that using square diamond particles helps to improve the thermal conductivity of diamond/Cu composites.

A typical ground imitating tank is analyzed regarding it as the thin-walled structure composed of plates (skins) and beams (reinforcement) using finite element method (FEM). Through moving the location of reinforcements, make the skins close with the flanges of the reinforcements in order to imitate actually the connection of the skins and the reinforcements. The thickness of plates, the size and the geometry shape and the location of reinforcements are taken as parameters to be optimized. In calculation, not only consider effects of the oil-weight, the extra-pressure in tank and the dead weight of the tank on the stresses and displacements of the tank, but also analyze the effects of the inertia forces produced due to the rotation of the tank on the stresses and displacements. Displacement, stress and deformation distributions of the ground imitating tank under the three typical flying postures imitated are given.
