Current research efforts toward achieving ceramic/polymer composites which fulfill the balance between sufficiently high dielectric constant (ε) and low dielectric loss (tanδ) are presented. In this paper, ceramic/polymer composite films made of CaCu3Ti4O12(CCTO) powder as filler, which is modified by silane coupling agent vinyltrimethoxysilane (A-171), and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) copolymer as matrix were prepared by solution casting method. The morphology and dielectric properties (DP) were studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and impedance analyzer. The effect of pH and ethanol concentration on the dielectric properties of A-171@CCTO/PVDF were studied. The results show that constant could reach 54.17 and loss 0.05 when mass fraction of A-171 is 0.4% at 1 kHz. pH=4 and using anhydrous ethanol are the optimal conditions.

In order to develop infinite capacitive materials with high dielectric constant and low dielectric loss, influences of Y/Mn co-doping and ZrO2 coating on the dielectric properties of barium strontium tinanate/polyvinylidene fluoride (BST/PVDF) composite films were systematically investigated with fixing Y concentration as 0.3 at.% and varying Mn concentration from 1 at.% to 4 at.%. The experimental results show that the dielectric constant of BST@ZrO2/PVDF composite increases by 50% relative to BST/PVDF and the dielectric loss is evidently depressed. In comparison with BST@ZrO2/PVDF sample, furthermore, the dielectric constant of Y/Mn co-doped BST@ZrO2/PVDF samples increases by about 60% and the dielectric loss further reduces at 1 kHz. The promoted dielectric performances of composite originate from the space charge separation formed by Y/Mn co-doping and the limitation of electronic mobility by coated ZrO2. Y/Mn co-doped BST@ZrO2/PVDF composite film with 3% Mn has a dielectric constant of 37.9, a dielectric loss of 0.0117, superior dielectric temperature stability (3.1% from -5[Formula: see text]C to 45[Formula: see text]C at 1 kHz), and a discharged energy density of 5.67 J/cm3 at 600 kV/cm. The simultaneous optimization of dielectric constant and dielectric loss of BST/PVDF composite is realized in this experiment. The superior dielectric temperature stability suggests the application potential of Y/Mn co-doped BST@ZrO2/PVDF as wearable capacitors.

In this work, poly(1-butene) (PB-1) composite films with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were prepared by a solution casting method. The relationship between the dielectric properties and the crystal transformation process of the films was investigated. It was indicated that there were two crystal forms of I and II of PB-1 during the solution crystallization process. With the prolongation of the phase transition time, form II was converted into form I. The addition of the conductive filler (MWCNT) accelerated the rate of phase transformation and changed the nucleation mode of PB-1. The presence of crystal form I in the system increased the breakdown strength and the dielectric constant of the films and reduced the dielectric loss, with better stability. In addition, the dielectric constant and the dielectric loss of the MWCNT/PB-1 composite films increased with the addition of MWCNT, due to the interfacial polarization between MWCNT and PB-1 matrix. When the mass fraction of the MWCNT was 1.0%, the composite film had a dielectric constant of 43.9 at 25 °C and 103 Hz, which was 20 times that of the original film.

To meet the requirement of microelectronic industry, ceramic/polymer composite films made of CaCu3Ti4O12(CCTO) powder as filler and PVDF copolymer as matrix were prepared by solution casting method. The dielectric properties (DP) and morphology of the films were studied by impedance analyzer and scanning electron microscope (SEM) respectively. The dielectric constant could reach 23.96 and loss 0.1082 when mass fraction of CCTO is 50% at 100 Hz. SEM results show that CCTO particles dispersed well in the PVDF matrix. At last, three composite models were used to predict the dielectric constant of the composite films and it is proved that Yamada model fits the experimental data well.

ABSTRACTBy using conventional solution casting method, a flexible ceramic [CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO)]-Polymer [P(VDF-TrFE)] composite has been fabricated. The CCTO ceramic powders with a relative uniform size were prepared by traditional powder processing method. The dielectric properties of these films with different CCTO fractions were determined. The process was optimized to achieve high dielectric constant. A dielectric constant about 510 at room temperature and 1240 at 95 °C at 1 kHz for 6 layer hot compression was obtained.

Polyarylene ether nitrile (PEN) based composites combined MXene, Polydopamine (PDA) and barium titanate (BaTiO3, BT) with “core-shell”-like structure were developed successfully in this work, and then incorporating into the PEN matrix to form the PEN/MXene&PDA@BT nanocomposite films through the solution casting method. The novel MXene&PDA@BT nanoparticles were characterized by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Then the structure and properties of the obtained PEN/MXene&PDA@BT nanocomposites are studied in detail. The results show that the modification of PDA improved the dispersibility of MXene nanosheets and BT nanoparticles in the PEN matrix, resulting in the enhancement of mechanical and dielectric properties. The research results reveal that when the content of MXene&PDA@BT is 1%, the tensile strength and modulus reached 114.15 MPa and 3015.74 MPa, respectively. Most important, the PEN based nanocomposites exhibit the outstanding frequency in dependent dielectric properties, including high dielectric constant (5.08 at 1 kHz) and low dielectric loss (0.0178 at 1 kHz). These results indicate that the PEN/MXene&PDA@BT composite films are greatly significant for using as the constructing high performance dielectric materials.

Polymer-based composites with the advantages of ceramics and polymers exhibit high dielectric constant, good processing properties and low dielectric loss. The composites with a varied content of irregular alumina ( i -Al 2 O 3 ) filler were prepared by UV-cured epoxy acrylic (EA). Spherical alumina ( s -Al 2 O 3 ) was used as a filler to further investigate the effect of alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) shapes on dielectric properties of composites in the frequency range of 50 Hz–1 MHz. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy proved that the UV-cured epoxy acrylic/alumina (Al 2 O 3 /EA) composites were successfully fabricated. Scanning electron microscopy demonstrated that i -Al 2 O 3 particles have superior homodispersion in the matrix. Through testing, for all samples, with the addition of Al 2 O 3 , the relative permittivity of composites increased as expected, and the dielectric loss decreased accordingly. These data show that the incorporation of i -Al 2 O 3 particles presents better properties when compared with s -Al 2 O 3 /EA, which indicates that i -Al 2 O 3 particles have more influence on the dielectric properties of the composites than those of s -Al 2 O 3 particles. According to Weibull distribution, the characteristic breakdown strength of the Al 2 O 3 /EA composites was obtained and the results suggested that the composites of i -Al 2 O 3 /EA exhibited better breakdown performance.
