Hot Stamping Technology Applied on Vehicles on EuroCarBody

EuroCarBody, offer the most important forum for defining and discussing the state of the art in modern series car body engineering. The present paper concerns the materials of press hardened steels and its’ manufacturing technology (Hot stamping) applied on vehicle on EuroCarBody from 2009 to 2013 through presentations and benchmark datas. The using percentage of press hardening steels (PHS) on body in white (BIW) are summarized and analyzied. It can be noted that the number and weight of BIW parts using of press hardening steels are increasing from 2009 to 2013, some kind of vehicle, such as Audi A3, the using percentage of PHS reaches 21.6%. The press hardening steels have started used on commercial vehicle from EuroCarBody 2013. More and more new technologies applied on hot stamping processing, such as Joule heating for hot stamping, Hot-form-process partial tempering, Tailor Rolled Blank (TRB) technolgy, etc. With the developing of the automotive industry, more and more hot forming parts will be applied on vehicles in the future.

Press hardening steel is the best solution for application of extremely high strength steel in automotive structures in order to reduce the weight of body-in-white. Effect of austenitizing temperature on the grain coarsening of a press hardening steel has been investigated by using dilatometer at first. The mechanical properties of press-hardened steel austenitized at temperature between 850 to 950oC by using a pilot hot stamping line have been investigated. The strength, especially the ultimate tensile strength, was improved by the grain refinement with lower austenitization temperature.

One of the main targets in automotive industry is to reduce the weight of vehicle as well as increase the safety. To accomplish this goal, press-hardening steel and hot stamping parts have been used in car body. However, the possibility of hydrogen-induced delayed fracture (HDF) of hot stamping parts exits, which will decrease the car’s passive safety. A solution has been presented to reduce the sensitivity of HDF and improve hydrogen-induced delayed fracture resistance (HDFR) by Niobium micro-alloying technology. Traditional press-hardening steel 22MnB5 and new steel 22MnBNb2, 22MnBNb5 and 22MnBNb7 were studied, and it is shown that the appropriate addition of Nb is beneficial to the improvement of the delayed fracture resistance of the hot stamping steel, which indicates that Niobium micro-alloying technology is an effective solution to the HDF in hot stamping steels.

The automotive sector is one of the fastest growing sectors of economy. The increasing amount of cars both in Polish and world roads results in the immeasurable benefits associated with the goods and human transport. On the other hand, this phenomenon caused the contamination of the environment. During the fuel combustion in petrol or diesel engines, the harmful gases, for example CO2, NOx and SOx are emitted. Apart from the negative impact on the environment, the emission of the aforementioned gases results in the deterioration of human conditions, as well as, the development of civilization diseases. In order to minimalize the harmful influence of an automotive industry on the environment, new technologies which can reduce the consumption of fuel or limit the fumes emission are developed. The first part of paper presents new solutions in an automotive sector which influence on the decline of the negative impact of automobiles on the environment. Additionally, proposed solutions affect the development of a car industry, taking into consideration environmental aspects.

AbstractRisk classes defined by MDR and FDA for state-of-the-art surgical robots based on their intended use are not suitable as indicators for their hazard potential. While there is a lack of safety regulation for an increasing degree of automation as well as the degree of invasiveness into the patient’s body, adverse events have increased in the last decade. Thus, an outright identification of hazards as part of the risk analysis over the complete development process and life cycle of a surgical robot is crucial, especially when introducing new technologies. For this reason, we present a comprehensive approach for hazard identification in early phases of development. With this multi-perspective approach, the number of hazards identified can be increased. Furthermore, a generic catalogue of hazards for surgical robots has been established by categorising the results. The catalogue serves as a data pool for risk analyses and holds the potential to reduce hazards through safety measures already in the design process before becoming risks for the patient.

Zukünftige Antriebstechnologien sowie neue Fabrik- und Logistikkonzepte verändern die Rahmenbedingungen der Automobilproduktion grundlegend. Schon heute muss die Strukturlayoutplanung Innovationen und Unsicherheiten in Form von mehr Varianten, abgestimmt in sehr kurzer Zeit, durch die Einbeziehung von weiteren Know-how-Trägern berücksichtigen. Neue Herausforderungen, wie die Planung der Batteriefertigungen, müssen schnell und intuitiv gelöst werden. Einen Beitrag dafür liefert dieser Artikel.   Future technologies in automotive mobility as well as new factory and logistic concepts are changing the framework in car production. Innovations and uncertainties (e. g. the impact of new technologies) have to be taken in consideration for the factory of the future. New tasks, such as planning the assembly of batteries, need to be solved fast and intuitively. This paper presents an approach to this topic.

The analysis is performed on a hydraulic press which is intended for use in the automotive industry and is a part of a production line. The final phase of manufacture of interior and acoustic parts takes place in this press. These interior and acoustic parts are made of sandwich fabric which is inserted into the heated mould of the press and by treatment with a defined pressure (or, more precisely, a defined compression) and temperature, it is formed into its final shape. This press has a frame with four columns and it is not preloaded. Two double acting hydraulic cylinders placed on an upper cross beam exert the compressive force. Due to continuously increasing demands on the accuracy and quality of products not only in the automotive industry, it is necessary to ensure compliance with the accuracy of certain values of machine operation. Especially in this case, the value of accuracy substantially depends on the clamping plates of the press, for which a certain value of flatness is required, both at room temperature and at elevated temperatures. To achieve this accuracy, it is necessary to guarantee sufficient stiffness of the machine to resist the pressing force with the smallest deformation possible. Another crucial factor affecting the accuracy of the machine is heating of the heated clamping plates. Unequal heating of parts of the frame causes additional deformation that has to be quantified and eliminated. The main aim was to verify the design of the press by numerical computation and gather knowledge for modifying the topological design of the press so that it fulfils the required customer parameters of flatness and parallelism for different types of loading. A computational model of the press was created for the numerical solution of a coupled temperature-displacement numerical analysis. The analysis was performed using the finite element method in Abaqus software. The press is symmetrical in two orthogonal planes and the load of the press is considered to be centric. On the basis of these two factors it was possible to carry out the analysis by considering only a quarter of the press. The analysis was used to investigate the effects of static and combined loads from the pressing force and heat on the press. The influence of a cooling circuit located in the press frame for the reduction of frame deformation (and deformation of clamping plates) was investigated. Contacts were defined among individual parts to ensure the computational model had characteristics as close as possible to the real press. The analysis was solved as stationary, on the basis that the cooling of the tool between individual pressing cycles is negligible. The insulating plates are made of a particulate composite material which was considered to have isotropic properties depending on the temperature. For strength evaluation of composite materials all individual components of the stress tensor were examined according to the maximum stress criterion. Hook’s law was considered to be valid for the metallic materials. Von Mises criterion was used to evaluate the strength of the metallic materials. The geometry of the press was discretized using 3D linear thermally coupled brick elements with 8 nodes and full integration (C3D8T). There were approximately 174,000 elements in total. Design procedures for designing a press frame with higher work accuracy (flatness) were proposed with the example of the simplified model of the press table. With these methods it is possible to achieve times higher accuracy than is achieved with conventional method.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to assess the state of the art of social business process management (Social BPM), explaining applied approaches, existing tools and challenges and to propose a research agenda for encouraging further development of the area. Design/methodology/approach The methodology comprises a qualitative analysis using secondary data. The approach relies on searches of scientific papers conducted in well-known databases, identifying research work related to Social BPM solutions and those contributing with social characteristics to BPM. Based on the identified papers, the authors selected the most relevant and the latest publications, and categorized their contributions and findings based on open and selective coding. In total, the analysis is based on 51 papers that were selected and analyzed in depth. Findings Main results show that there are several studies investigating modeling approaches for socializing process activities and for capturing implicit knowledge possessed and used by process actors, enabling to add some kind of flexibility to business processes. However, despite the proven interest in the area, there are not yet adequate tools providing effective solutions for Social BPM. Based on our findings, the authors propose a research agenda comprising three main lines: contributions of social software (SS) to Social BPM, Social BPM as a mechanism for adding flexibility to and for discovering new business processes and Social BPM for enhancing business processes with the use of new technologies. The authors also identify relevant problems for each line. Practical implications Some SS tools, like wikis, enable managing social aspects in executing business processes and can be used to coordinate simple business processes. Despite they are commonly used, they are not yet mature tools supporting Social BPM and more efficient tools are yet to appear. The lack of tools preclude organizations from benefitting from implicit knowledge owned by and shared among business process actors, which could contribute to better-informed decisions related to organizational processes. In addition, more research is needed for considering Social BPM as an approach for organizations to benefit from the adoption of new technologies in their business processes. Originality/value The paper assesses the state of the art in Social BPM, an incipient area in research and practice. The area can be defined as the intersection of two bigger areas highly relevant for organizations; on the one hand, the management and execution of business processes; and on the other hand, the use of social software, including social media tools, for leveraging on implicit knowledge shared by business process actors to improving efficiency of business processes.

Advances in neurotechnologies and artificial intelligence have led to an innovative proposal to establish ethical and legal limits to the development of technologies: Human NeuroRights. In this sense, the article addresses, first, some advances in neurotechnologies and artificial intelligence, as well as their ethical implications. Second, the state of the art on the innovative proposal of Human NeuroRights is exposed, specifically, the proposal of the NeuroRights Initiative of Columbia University. Third, the proposal for the rights of free will and equitable access to augmentation technologies is critically analyzed to conclude that, although it is necessary to propose new regulations for neurotechnologies and artificial intelligence, the debate is still very premature as if to try to incorporate a new category of human rights that may be inconvenient or unnecessary. Finally, some considerations on how to regulate new technologies are explained and the conclusions of the work are presented.

The paper analyzes the Italian auto industry investments in Industry 4.0 technologies and firms’ perceived risks, constraints and limits to new technologies adoption. Results show that firms 4.0 are those at the higher level of the supply pyramid and closer to the final market, and are among the most innovative, dynamic and performing companies. Particularly firms invested to improve the Production, Quality, Logistics and Maintenance areas. The study also analyzes the relevance of the Italian Government’s plan for sustaining innovative investments and overall the main risks and constraints that could hinder the activation of Industry 4.0 initiatives in this setting.
