Because of its advantages of high strength, good toughness and strong corrosion resistance capability, SMA490BW was access to a wide range of applications in bogie frame of high-speed train. Manual welding, single-wire automatic welding and double-wires automatic welding were used to weld plate butt joints of SMA490BW steel. The mechanical properties testing and microstructure observation were carried out. Results showed that the strength of welded joint and impact toughness could meet the design requirements with the above methods. Double-wires welding owned an outstanding advantages of saving energy and welding productivity in such the above methods which laid the foundation for application of double wires welding in bogie frame of high-speed train.

In recent years, most of nickel-based materials have been used in aircraft engines. Nickel-based materials applied in the aerospace industry are used in a wide range of applications because of their strength and rigidity at high temperature. However, the high temperatures and high strength caused by the nickel-based materials during cutting also reduce the tool lifetime. This research aims to investigate the tool wear and the surface roughness of Waspaloy during cutting with various cutting speeds, feed per tooth, cutting depth, and other cutting parameters. Then, it derives the formula for the tool lifetime based on the experimental results and explores the impacts of these cutting parameters on the cutting of Waspaloy. Since the impacts of cutting speed on the cutting of Waspaloy are most significant in accordance with the experimental results, the high-speed cutting is not recommended. In addition, the actual surface roughness of Waspaloy is worse than the theoretical surface roughness in case of more tool wear. Finally, a set of mathematical models can be established based on these results, in order to predict the surface roughness of Waspaloy cut with a worn tool. The errors between the predictive values and the actual values are 5.122%∼8.646%. If the surface roughness is within the tolerance, the model can be used to predict the residual tool lifetime before the tool is damaged completely. The errors between the predictive values and the actual values are 8.014%∼20.479%.

According to a large amount of the test data, the mid and high frequency vibrations of high-speed bogies are very notable, especially in the 565~616 Hz range, which are just the passing frequencies corresponding to the 22nd to 24th polygonal wear of the wheel. In order to investigate the main cause of wheel higher-order polygon formation, a 3D flexible model of a Chinese high-speed train bogie is developed using the explicit finite element method. The results show that the couple vibration of bogie and wheelset may lead to the high-order wears of wheel. In order to reduce the coupled resonance of the wheelset and the bogie frame, the effects of the stiffness and damping of the primary suspensions, wheelset axle radius, and bogie frame strength on the vibration transmissibility are discussed carefully. The numerical results show that the resonance peaks in high frequency range can be reduced by reducing the stiffness of axle box rotary arm joint, reducing the wheelset axle radius or strengthening the bogie frame location. The related results may provide a reference for structure improvement of the existing bogies and structure design of the new high-speed bogies.

High-speed train is developing popular in China, which provides the convenient and fast transportation way, comparable to plane. The moving direction and speed of high-speed train is decided by the traction motor. Generally, a coaxial centrifugal fan is used to cool the motor and assemble in the motor casing. To ensure the reliability of the traction motor, more and more attention is paid to improve the performance of cooling fans in a wide range of rotating speed. As the train is designed to move in both directions, the traction motor is designed to rotate in both directions, so does the coaxial motor cooling fan. Symmetrical and straight blade structure is adopted to get the same performance of the fan in both forward and reverse moving directions. Therefore, the aerodynamic performance of the cooling fan is relatively not good enough, which results in relatively high aerodynamic noise. In order to analyze the cooling fan aerodynamic performance and aerodynamic noise, CFD method was performed on the full 3D model with the impeller-casing clearance. The acoustic analogy method was used to analyze the noise of the centrifugal cooling fan. In addition, the aerodynamic noise of the motor with the cooling fan was tested at different rotating speed in the semi-anechoic lab. The CFD method is verified and the results are in good agreement with the experimental results. The results show that it is necessary to consider the effects of impeller-casing leakage and the vacuum inlet condition in the simulated model to get its more accurate performance. Modified CFD model of the cooling fan was proposed here. It is suggested that the modified structure of the casing can be used to improve the performance of the cooling fan and reduce the corresponding aerodynamic noise.
