The central idea of the present research aims at achieving textile substrates through an efficient inclusion of a wild black cherry extract into the grafting agent-monochlorotriazinyl-β-cyclodextrin (MCT-β-CD). The methodology consists in a permanent/irreversible entrapment onto the fibres surface of the natural extract through inclusion mechanism. Exhaustion and sonication dyeing procedures were used alternatively. The obtained materials were characterized, by FT-IR and BET analysis. The experimental results reveal good adsorptive feature of the samples, due to a higher specific surface created by the inclusion complex (MCT-β-CD-dye pigment). An efficient blocking of the natural dye pigment molecules into the grafting agent’s cavity (MCT-β-CD), assumed both a stable dyeing and antimicrobial potential. The results obtained by this ecologic surface grafting method will contribute to novel key points in producing healthy natural textiles, as alternatives for single use textiles. The results provided by this research will be used as starting point for a future study targeting the obtaining of textile supports with antimicrobial performance. Other investigations like washing, rubbing and colour fastness, highlighted that dyeing treatment by sonication is extremely efficient and could be successfully applied to such items, in boosting developments.

Background: SO3H-functionalized zeolite-Y was prepared and used as a catalyst for the synthesis of 2-aryl-N-benzimidazole-4-thiazolidinones and tri-substituted imidazoles at ambient conditions. Objective: The goals of this catalytic method include excellent yields and high purity, inexpensive procedure and ease of product isolation, the use of nontoxic and heterogeneous acid catalyst, shorter reaction times and milder conditions. Materials and Methods: NMR spectra were recorded on Brucker spectrophotometer using Me4Si as internal standard. Mass spectra were recorded on an Agilent Technology 5975C VL MSD with tripe-axis detector. FTIR spectra were obtained with KBr disc on a galaxy series FT-IR 5000 spectrometer. The surface morphology of nanostructures was analyzed by FE-SEM (EVO LS 10, Zeiss, Carl Zeiss, Germany). BET analysis were measured at 196 °C by a Japan Belsorb II system after the samples were vacuum dried at 150°C overnight. Results: The NSZ was characterized by FT-IR, FESEM, EDX, XRF, and BET. The catalytic activity of NSZ was investigated for synthesis of 1,3-tiazolidin-4-ones in H2O/Acetone at room temperature. Moreover, NSZ was used for synthesis of tri-substituted imidazoles at 60 °C via solvent-free condensation. Different kinds of aromatic aldehydes were converted to the corresponding of products with good to excellent yields. Conclusion: Sulfonated zeolite-Y was as an efficient catalyst for the preparation of N-benzimidazole-2-aryl-1,3- thiazolidin-4-ones and 2,4,5-triaryl-1H-imidazoles. High reaction rates, elimination toxic solvent, simple experimental procedure and reusability of the catalyst are the important features of this protocol.

The origin and phenomenology of the Fast Radio Burst (FRB) remains unknown despite more than a decade of efforts. Though several models have been proposed to explain the observed data, none is able to explain alone the variety of events so far recorded. The leading models consider magnetars as potential FRB sources. The recent detection of FRBs from the galactic magnetar SGR J1935+2154 seems to support them. Still, emission duration and energetic budget challenge all these models. Like for other classes of objects initially detected in a single band, it appeared clear that any solution to the FRB enigma could only come from a coordinated observational and theoretical effort in an as wide as possible energy band. In particular, the detection and localisation of optical/NIR or/and high-energy counterparts seemed an unavoidable starting point that could shed light on the FRB physics. Multiwavelength (MWL) search campaigns were conducted for several FRBs, in particular for repeaters. Here we summarize the observational and theoretical results and the perspectives in view of the several new sources accurately localised that will likely be identified by various radio facilities worldwide. We conclude that more dedicated MWL campaigns sensitive to the millisecond–minute timescale transients are needed to address the various aspects involved in the identification of FRB counterparts. Dedicated instrumentation could be one of the key points in this respect. In the optical/NIR band, fast photometry looks to be the only viable strategy. Additionally, small/medium size radiotelescopes co-pointing higher energies telescopes look a very interesting and cheap complementary observational strategy.

In his 1998 article titled “God Inside Out: Toward a Missionary Theology of the Holy Spirit,” Stephen Bevans referred to Johannes Hoekendijk’s 1964 publication The Church Inside Out as his starting point. This article follows Bevans’s lead in exploring Hoekendijk’s legacy and contribution to theology and mission today. At key points I draw the connection of Hoekendijk’s thinking with that of Bevans, highlighting in the end the manner in which they both agree that the church itself is not of ultimate importance to God, but the world into which the Spirit still sends us in mission.

V2O5–TiO2 and V2O5–Al2O3 mixed oxide powders were synthesized in a hydrogen-oxygen flame using VOCl3, TiCl4, and Al(CH3)3 as precursors. The particle formation processes were investigated as a function of VOCl3 concentration by laser light-scattering and by collecting particles directly onto transmission electron microscopy grids. In the V2O5–TiO2 system, the oxides condense as an intimate mixture at all three VOCl3 concentrations. Spherical particles, 40 to 70 nm in diameter, are obtained. In the V2O5–Al2O3 system, chain-like particles composed of an intimate mixture of V2O5 and Al2O3 form at the lowest VOCl3 concentration. At high VOCl3 concentrations, the chain-like particles have a core-mantle structure (a core mainly of Al2O3 and a mantle mainly of V2O5). The crystalline form and the surface area of these mixed oxides were determined by x-ray diffractometry, FT-IR spectroscopy, and BET analysis by nitrogen desorption. These measurements indicate that amorphous vanadium oxide forms at low VOCl3 concentrations, and V2O5 is obtained at the higher VOCl3 concentrations. The structure of the amorphous vanadium oxide matches that published for vanadium oxide “supported” catalysts.

Metal organic frameworks are formed by the three-dimensional linkage of metal cores and organic linkers. In this work, bismuth-based metal organic framework (Bi-MOF) has been synthesized by using 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid (H2HIA) as linker via hydrothermal method. The said MOF was structurally characterized by UV/Vis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), 1H NMR, energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray diffraction technique. This MOF showed highly porous structure with surface area 1096 m2/g as determined by BET analysis. A model batch adsorption experiment was performed to evaluate the efficiency of methylene blue (MB) dye removal from aqueous media. It was found that monolayer adsorption capacity calculated from the Langmuir isotherm was 0.6240 mg/g. Bi-MOF was also screened for its antibacterial and luminescent behavior.                     KEY WORDS: Bismuth, Metal-organic Frameworks, Luminescence, Sorption   Bull. Chem. Soc. An important aspect of good management of inventory for many single-use populations or stockpiles is to develop an informed consumption strategy to use a collection of single-use units, with varied reliability as a function of age, during scheduled operations. We present a two-phase approach to balance multiple objectives for a consumption strategy to ensure good performance on the average reliability, consistency of unit reliability over time, and least uncertainty of the reliability estimates. In the first phase, a representative subset of units is selected to explore the impact of using units at different time points on reliability performance and to identify beneficial consumption patterns using a nondominated sorting genetic algorithm based on multiple objectives. In the second phase, the results from the first phase are projected back to the full stockpile as a starting point for determining best consumption strategies that emphasize the priorities of the manager. The method can be generalized to other criteria of interest and management optimization strategies. The method is illustrated with an example that shares characteristics with some munition stockpiles and demonstrates the substantial advantages of the two-phase approach on the quality of solutions and efficiency of finding them.

Tenofovir disoproxil (TD) has narrow absorption site mostly in upper intestinal tract where tenofovir rapidly decomposes. The aim of this work was to prepare and evaluate tenofovir disoproxil-loaded enteric microparticles (TDEMs) for the enhanced duodenal delivery. TDEMs were composed of TD, eudragit L-100 (EL) and ethyl cellulose (EC) as release-controlling polymers. For the physicochemical characterization, TDEMs were evaluated in terms of encapsulation efficiency (EE%), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The dissolution test was also performed while continuously changing the medium pH. The EE% of TD in TDEMs was good and more than 90%. The EC and EL formed a physically mixed structure and maintained their respective properties in TDEMs as confirmed by SEM image and FT-IR analysis. Combination of EL and EC gave higher enteric properties to TDEMs than the single use of EL or EC. The optimized TDEM (TD/EL/EC = 0.2/1/1, w/w/w ratio) yielded mean dissolution rate less than 10% in 1 h at pH 1.2, but completed dissolution with a dissolution more than 85% within 1 h at pH 6.5. Thus, the suggested TDEM would be promising enteric microparticles for the intensive delivery of TD to the duodenum.

AbstractThis work reports the sol-gel synthesis of silica hybrids. We determined the effect of the type and quantity of silica precursors and organic compounds on the resulting structure, surface area, nanostructure design and size, and potential applications. The structure of the synthesized hybrids was analyzed using FT-IR, XRD, BET-Analysis, SEM, and AFM. We demonstrate the immovilization of whole living thermophilic bacterial cells with cyanocompound degradation activity in the synthesized silica hybrid biomaterials by entrapment, chemical binding, and adsorption.
