This research work has developed a processing technology for full oxidation of the biocake from gold-arsenic flotation concentrate with high pyrrhotite content by neutrophilic association of microorganisms, which oxidize elemental sulphur and antimony sulphide at a high rate. Biocake, which is produced as a result of oxidizing the sulphides in the flotation concentrate at pH 1,7 – 1,9 by acidophilic bacteria of chemolithotrophic microorganisms and containing around 3%-5% of elemental sulphur, is then fully oxidized by association of neutrophilic bacteria at рН 7,0-8,0.

Two-stage concrete (TSC), also known as prepacked aggregate concrete (PAC), differs from traditional concrete in terms of site application and manufacturing process. Although this type of concrete is not a replacement for conventional concrete applications, it is an ideal option for unusual and difficult placing conditions, especially for repairing existing concrete structures. In other words, this type of concrete is a newly developed concrete and made by placing and packing coarse aggregates and fibres in a designed formwork, then injecting a cement grout mixture into the free spaces between the aggregate particles using gravity or a pump device. For the mentioned system and others, concrete components used as floors or pavements must have an adequate degree of roughness during service life when exposed to skid and abrasion. Thus, this research work introduced a new concrete method (prepacked aggregates fibre-reinforced concrete—PAFRC) with high abrasion and skid resistance reinforced with waste polypropylene (PP) fibres from the carpet industry. The effects of PP fibres at 0–1% dosages on the mechanical properties, abrasion resistance, and skid resistance of PAFRC mixes were studied. The results revealed that the addition of PP fibres reduces the compressive strength of concrete mixtures. Nonetheless, the presence of PP fibres results in PAFRC mixes having higher tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and skid resistance than plain concrete. It was detected that in both grouting methods (gravity and pump), with the addition of PP fibre up to a specific dosage, the resistance against abrasion and skid was increased by about 26% compared to plain PAC mix. Additionally, the outcomes indicated that PAFRC is a promising material for applications such as pavements with high abrasion and skid resistance.

Using the Hallidayan Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), this article seeks to carry out a theoretically founded analysis of two extracts from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Half of a Yellow Sun to decode both her world view and ideology behind her writing for a better understanding of the whole novel with a view to making her message accessible to the laymen. The quantitative research method employed by the study has helped to recap the linguistic features of the analyzed excerpts in a statistical table paving the way to their interpretation via the qualitative method. The study has interestingly arrived at impressive results. Among others, it is to be highlighted that Adichie has written Half of a Yellow Sun to get important messages across. To descend to particulars, the analysis has unveiled that unkindness, wickedness, violence, heartlessness and mistrustfulness are some of the evils that the Nigeria-Biafra war has resulted into. As a result, by writing this award winning novel, Adichie aims at giving advice to her contemporaries and, more precisely, to the Nigerian current and future political leaders for the country brighter future. Adichie’s selections of modality in the studied excerpts reveal the possibility of new developments of the bygone civil war. The high rate of circumstantial adjuncts has contributed to improve the texts experiential density, and complements other strategies used by Adichie to make her novel very well written in mode. Indeed, these are just some of the results the present research work has arrived at; more remain to be discovered in the section devoted to the interpretation of findings in this paper. The study has interestingly opened up to such further research horizons as experiential meaning, textual meaning, pragmatic transfer, code switching, code mixing to name but just a few of them.

The internet is faced with many problems daily, one of them is decrement in network bandwidth because of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on host server, which deplete host resources. Researchers has been invented many protection mechanisms such as detection, trace back, prevention, reaction, and characterization are in case of DDoS attacks, which will control the number of malicious packets received by the victim. But it does not provide efficient detection technique with high rate in real time network infrastructure. Thus, modern technologies are prepared on Mininet network simulators, which give more impact to simulate the real network. The architecture of Software Defined Networks (SDN) and OpenFlow architecture is used to demonstrate a programmable network model and centralized management of real network. In this research work, we provide design of software defined network (SDN) using mininet simulator and security issues related to the Software Defined Network.

Extensive use of the Internet coupled with tremendous growth in database applications have created a huge demand for database security. The concepts of e-governance, e-commerce, e-business, e-learning, and digital libraries are already in place and evolving across poles. This raises various concomitant threats such as illegal copying, illegal redistribution, tampering, forgery and authentication of copyrighted digital assets. Digital Watermarking is an effective technique which can be introduced for solving the above mentioned threats. Based on the detection of the Watermark, the ownership and the integrity of the data can be asserted. Database Watermarking techniques are generally classified into two: i.e., Robust or Fragile. Robust watermarking techniques are designed for copyright protection and fragile watermarking techniques are for authentication or integrity checking of data. Watermarking schemes for relational databases authentication are almost fragile in nature. These algorithms do not allow any legitimate modification of the data. In most of the cases, innocent distortions such as tuple and/or attribute sorting may be considered as tampering. In this paper, the research work proposes a novel semi-fragile watermarking technique for tamper detection of relational databases. The new semi-fragile scheme can detect and localize malicious modifications, while allowing authorized updates. Theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrate that common database attacks can be detected with high rate of success.

Aim: This research work was done during the Indian festive season of 2020 to assess the attitude, mentality and psychological pattern of Indians. Also, the effect of yoga and meditation in combating the Covid-19 pandemic related stress was analyzed in the present research work. As Paracetamol and Diclofenac are OTC medications which are widely available without doctor’s prescription, the potential of self-medication for these drugs amidst the pandemic need to be studied, this study further attempted to analyze the rate and extent of self-medication of these drugs among Indians. Materials and Methods: An e-questionnaire survey bearing questions on pandemic-related mental stress, sleep duration, yoga, meditation practice, and extent of self-medication in combating the pandemic was floated to the residents of Bengaluru to collect their response. The collected data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software version 17. Results: A mixed response regarding their stress, anxiety, and fear expressed on a higher scale was the same before or during Covid could be perceived. The sleep pattern before and during CoVid had no significant variation (p>0.05) and appeared the same. All the respondents agreed that they spend considerable time with electronic gadgets during the Covid lockdown period. Most of the respondents (60%) practice yoga and meditation occasionally or daily. The high rate of self-medication with Paracetamol and Diclofenac drugs among Indian people in the current pandemic situation shows they are OTC and readily available. The self-medication practice is of real concern as it may cause a long-term impact on the consumers.

The novel SARS-COV-2 has since been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). The virus has spread from Wuhan city in China in December 2019 to no fewer than 200 countries as at June 2020 and still counting. Nigeria is currently experiencing a rapid spread of the virus amidst weak health system and more than 80% of population leaving on less than 1USD per day. To help understand the behavior of the virus in resource limited settings, we modelled the outbreak of COVID-19 and effects of control strategies in Bauchi state at north-eastern Nigeria. Using the real data of Bauchi state COVID-19 project, this research work extends the epidemic SEIR model by introducing new parameters based on the transmission dynamics of the novel COVID-19 pandemic and preventive measures. The total population of Bauchi State at the time of the study, given by is compartmentalized into five (5) different compartments as follows: Susceptible (S), Exposed (E), Infectious (I), Quarantined (Q) and Recovered (R). The new model is SEIQR. N = S → E → I → Q → R Data was collected by accessing Bauchi state electronic database of COVID-19 project to derive all the model parameters, while analysis and model building was done using Maple software. At the time of this study, it was found that the reproduction number R, for COVID-19 in Bauchi state, is 2.6 × 10-5. The reproduction number R decreased due to the application of control measures. The compartmental SEIRQ model in this study, which is a deterministic system of linear differential equations, has a continuum of disease-free equilibria, which is rigorously shown to be locallyasymptotically stable as the epidemiological threshold, known as the control reproduction number R= 0.0000026 is less than unity. The implication of this study is that the COVID-19 pandemic can be effectively controlled in Bauchi, since is R<1. Contact tracing and isolation must be increased as the models shows, the rise in infected class is a sign of high vulnerability of the population. Unless control measures are stepped up, despite high rate of recovery as shown by this study, infection rate will keep increasing as currently there is a no vaccine for COVID-19.
