Variant design has been recognized as an effective measure to implement mass customization. Assembly consists of different types of parts. Its variant design is a profound issue need to be explored. Three aspects were discussed in this paper, namely, 1) part classification and dimension constraint satisfaction priority, 2) part reuse, 3) dimension conflict and variant postponing. Firstly, dimension constraint network among parts was constructed based on graph. And variant dimension transferring was exploited. Secondly, reusable part can be found from existing parts through similarity analysis. Thirdly, aiming at dimension constraint conflicts, variant postponing was proposed to concentrate variant design to few parts so as to reduce the number of variant part.

PurposeProduct variant design can only be achieved after all its constituent parts have been implemented by variant design. It is necessary to plan the sequence of part variant design reasonably. The product variant design process involves a large amount of information transfer events at the dimensional level. A reasonable product variant design process needs to make full use of the information transfer characters of parts to decrease the uncertainty of product variant design process. The existing methods of researching the product variant design process mainly focus on resource constraint and activity logic. They are deficient, however, in information transfer resolution and uncertainty management. This paper aims to address these issues.Design/methodology/approachThis paper identifies the number of dimension transfer paths and the position of dimension locating within a transfer path as being the key factors affecting the information transfer role of dimension. Information transfer utility is proposed to measure the information transfer capability of dimensions and parts. Based on these, a two-stage approach of generating the sequence of part variant design based on information transfer utility is proposed.FindingsThe uncertainty of dimension constraint network is minimal during the product variant design process when parts are implemented by variant design under the sequence generated through a two-stage method based on the information transfer utilities of parts, as does the times of parameter transferring and iteration in dimension constraint network.Originality/valuePart variant design under the sequence of descending information transferring utilities can decrease the difficulty of implementing product variant design validly and also increase the efficiency. This suggests an innovative method to planning the product variant design process reasonably from the perspective of informatics.

As is known to all, new mechanical product design is always on the basis of the original product, so to better use the exiting design resource, a mechanical product variant design method is presented. The new method is based on SML and parameter CAD. According to different geological conditions of coal mine, different types of hydraulic support are needed to design. So as a typical kind of mechanical product, hydraulic support is given as an example to demonstrate the new variant design method. Finally with SOLIDWORKS as a specific application object, integrated with SQLServer2000 database, a hydraulic support variant design system is realized by Visual Basic program, which shortens the cycle of mechanical product development and reduces duplication mechanical design greatly.

Panchakarma is a fruitful measure and its extensive efficacies are classified in different dimensions to cure different types of complicated diseases. Vamana, Virechana, Niruha, Anuvasana and Nasya are the five procedures and subsequently even Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya and Rakta Mokshana are broadly termed as Panchakarma in day to day practices. The new diseases are evolving with intense gravity and therefore to combat those, Panchakarma is a very effective measure. In present era competition and advancement have led to hectic and stressful life, man has eventually forgotten the absolute enjoyment and solitary affection of nature and as a result is facing many health problems. Gridhrasi is no exception, it is correlated to sciatica in modern science where low back ache radiating to toes in the lateral aspect of the thigh associated with stiffness is the main complaint.

AbstractProduct variant design, as one of the key enabling technologies of mass customization, is the transfer of variant information among mating parts from the perspective of informatics. A dimension constraint network (DCN) among mating parts carries on the task of transferring variant information. What are the information transfer characteristics of dimensions in a constraint network is a fundamental issue to plan the product variant design process reasonably. We begin by showing the natural dynamics of the DCN from two aspects: structure and uncertainty. The information efficiency of the DCN was proposed based on its simple path to specify the information transfer capability of the network. Based on this, the information centrality of the dimension was developed by measuring the efficiency loss of the DCN after the removal of a dimension from the network, which describes the information transfer capability of this dimension. Further, the information centrality of a part was derived. Using a spherical valve subassembly, we calculated the information centrality of the dimensions in a constraint network. We determined that the information centrality of dimension is highly correlated to its out-degree. An approach to plan the sequence of the part variant design according to its information centrality was proposed. We calculated the uncertainties of the DCN and its cumulative uncertainties under different sequences of the part variant design. Results indicate that part variant design under the descending information centrality of the parts minimizes the uncertainty of the DCN. This suggests a new method of planning the sequence of part variant design.

In the current market demand of rapid response manufacturing, the product variant design technology is one of the key technologies. Product variant design principles and methods are first described. Then, product dimension parameter is analyzed and product dimension parameter transferring structure is studied. Applying tree theory to product variant design, a dimension relation driving-tree of components and parts is constructed and the significance of driving-tree statistics and a dimension parameters transfer method are presented. The methods and processes which are applied to variant design and the sorting algorithm of relations are described in detail. A parameterized variant design module integrated with SolidWorks was developed with VC + +. All the above mentioned methods and processes are verified by taking a joint coupling product as an example.

We demonstrate a design method of focusing-control device, which consists of single metallic nano-slit surrounded with the grooves at the metal exit surface. According to the principle of the constructive interference, the grooves are positioned to scatter the SPPs to the radiation lights with desired phases. The role of SPPs in the focusing control is investigated, by applying the design method in the four different types of metal film. The simulation results indicate that the focusing effects are dependant on the types of metal film, the metal film which supports the SPPs with a long propagation length can form an apparent focus spot, and the reason is discussed.

Because of different types of load, material properties deviation and construction errors, structures have initial defects inevitably. Therefore structural damages emerge easily and have strong randomness. At the same time, the ideal design model often has difference with structure in service. To most structures, the initial testing dates cannot be obtained, while this initial model is very important to structural damage detection. So the ideal model needs to revise. In this paper, elastic modulus, Poisson ratio and link section area are given as initial random defects and these defects obey normal distribution which can be constructed by Monte Carlo probabilistic design method. Firstly, the sensitivity parameters to structural response will be received by PDS technology from Ansys. Next, the square pyramid space grid models with random defects were obtained. Finally, given link element damage, using the method combined curvature mode difference with wavelet transform, the link element damage can be determined. Through analysis, the effects about the initial defects to damage detection will be obtained.
