A back analysis procedure synthetically using parameters sensitivity analysis based on orthogonal design variance analysis, support vector regression modeling of nonlinear relation between mechanical parameters and displacement, and a hybrid optimization algorithm of particle swarm optimizer (PSO) and differential evolution (DE), was proposed. Optimum values of elasto-plastic mechanic parameters of rock mass were identified using the back analysis procedure and the measured displacement data. Assigning to the numerical model the optimum values of parameters, numerical simulation of powerhouse construction process was carried out to investigate the reliability of result of back analysis and the stability of powerhouse cavern. The result shows that calculated displacements are in good agreement with the measured, the powerhouse cavern is stable and has a considerable safety margin, and the existing support system can satisfy the need of local stability of powerhouse.

AbstractLegged robots have potential advantages in mobility compared with wheeled robots in outdoor environments. The knowledge of various ground properties and adaptive locomotion based on different surface materials plays an important role in improving the stability of legged robots. A terrain classification and adaptive locomotion method for a hexapod robot named Qingzhui is proposed in this paper. First, a force-based terrain classification method is suggested. Ground contact force is calculated by collecting joint torques and inertial measurement unit information. Ground substrates are classified with the feature vector extracted from the collected data using the support vector machine algorithm. Then, an adaptive locomotion on different ground properties is proposed. The dynamic alternating tripod trotting gait is developed to control the robot, and the parameters of active compliance control change with the terrain. Finally, the method is integrated on a hexapod robot and tested by real experiments. Our method is shown effective for the hexapod robot to walk on concrete, wood, grass, and foam. The strategies and experimental results can be a valuable reference for other legged robots applied in outdoor environments.

Frequent inventory data of container nurseries is needed by growers to ensure proper management and marketing strategies. In this paper, inventory data are estimated from aerial images. Since there are thousands of nursery species, it is difficult to find a generic classification algorithm for all cases. In this paper, the development of classification methods was confined to three representative categories: green foliage, yellow foliage, and flowering plants. Vegetation index thresholding and the support vector machine (SVM) were used for classification. Classification accuracies greater than 97% were obtained for each case. Based on the classification results, an algorithm based on canopy area mapping was built for counting. The effects of flight altitude, container spacing, and ground cover type were evaluated. Results showed that container spacing and interaction of container spacing with ground cover type have a significant effect on counting accuracy. To mimic the practical shipping and moving process, incomplete blocks with different voids were created. Results showed that the more plants removed from the block, the higher the accuracy. The developed algorithm was tested on irregular- or regular-shaped plants and plants with and without flowers to test the stability of the algorithm, and accuracies greater than 94% were obtained.

Abstract. The stability of man-made underground cavities in soft rocks interacting with overlying structures and infrastructures represents a challenging problem to be faced. Based upon the results of a large number of parametric two-dimensional (2-D) finite-element analyses of ideal cases of underground cavities, accounting for the variability both cave geometrical features and rock mechanical properties, specific charts have been recently proposed in the literature to assess at a preliminary stage the stability of the cavities. The purpose of the present paper is to validate the efficacy of the stability charts through the application to several case studies of underground cavities, considering both quarries collapsed in the past and quarries still stable. The stability graphs proposed by Perrotti et al. (2018) can be useful to evaluate, in a preliminary way, a safety margin for cavities that have not reached failure and to detect indications of predisposition to local or general instability phenomena. Alternatively, for sinkholes that already occurred, the graphs may be useful in identifying the conditions that led to the collapse, highlighting the importance of some structural elements (as pillars and internal walls) on the overall stability of the quarry system.

The stability of tunnels has mainly been evaluated based on displacement. Because displacement due to the excavation process is significant, back analysis of the structure and ground can be performed easily. Recently, the length of a segment-lined tunnel driven by the mechanized tunneling method is increasing. Because the internal displacement of a segment-lined tunnel is trivial, it is difficult to analyze the stability of segment-lined tunnels using the conventional method. This paper proposes a back analysis method using stress and displacement information for a segment-lined tunnel. A differential evolution algorithm was adopted for tunnel back analysis. Back analysis based on the differential evolution algorithm using stress and displacement was established and performed using the finite difference code, FLAC3D, and built-in FISH language. Detailed flowcharts of back analysis based on DEA using both monitored displacement stresses were also suggested. As a preliminary study, the target variables of the back analysis adopted in this study were the elastic modulus, cohesion, and friction angle of the ground. The back analysis based on the monitored displacement is useful when the displacement is significant due to excavation. However, the conventional displacement-based back analysis is unsuitable for a segment-lined tunnel after construction because of its trivial internal displacement since the average error is greater than 32% and the evolutionary calculation is finalized due to the maximum iteration criteria. The average error obtained from the proposed back analysis algorithm using both stress and displacement ranged within approximately 6–8%. This also confirms that the proposed back analysis algorithm is suitable for a segment-lined tunnel.

The stability is one most important product performance index, which can directly determine the quality of the partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ), and the stability of PSZ is always fluctuating in the commercial process, so how to accurately, quickly and easily predict the stability of PSZ in the preparation process is very important. In the present paper, a new mathematical model to predict the stability of PSZ was proposed, based on statistical theory (SLT) and support vector machine (SVM) theory, which relates the stability of PSZ and the influence factors, such as the holding temperature, rising rate of temperature, holding time, decreasing rate of temperature and hardening temperature. Typical data collected from commercial process were collected for the training samples and test samples. Then testing and analyzing was done. The results showed that the max relative error was 1.80%, the least relative error was 0%, and the average relative error was 0.58%. It is accurate and reliable to predict the stability of PSZ by SVM model. Besides, multiple influence factors can be comprehensively considered in the SVM model, thus a new highly effective method for predicting the stability of PSZ is provided for commercial application.

The stability of the economic market is an important factor for the rapid development of the economy, especially for the listed companies, whose financial and economic stability affects the stability of the financial market. It is helpful for the healthy development of enterprises and financial markets to make an accurate early warning of the financial economy of listed enterprises. This paper briefly introduced the support vector machine (SVM) and back-propagation neural network (BPNN) algorithms in the machine learning method. To make up for the defects of the two algorithms, they were combined and applied to the enterprise financial economics early warning. A simulation experiment was carried out on the single SVM algorithm-based, single BPNN algorithm-based, and SVM algorithm and BPNN algorithm combined model with the MATLAB software. The results show that the SVM algorithm and BP algorithm combined model converges faster and has higher precision and recall rate and larger area under the curve (AUC) than the single SVM algorithm-based model and the single BPNN algorithm-based model.

In order to study the sensitivity of factors affecting the homogeneous building slope stability, the orthogonal test design method and shear strength reduction finite element method were used. The stability safety factor of the slope was used as the analysis index, and the range analysis of results of 18 cases were carried out. The results show that the order of sensitivity of slope stability factors is: internal friction angle, slope height, cohesion, slope angle, bulk density, elastic modulus, Poisson's ratio. The analysis results have reference significance for the design and construction of building slope projects.

The stability of the slope is a complex system affected by many factors, with the characteristics of randomness and fuzziness. In the paper established the model of the support vector machine, which make use of the support vector machine considering the multiple factors affected the slope stability, and select the indicators with the characteristic of common and easy access. Through the actual inspection verified the validity of the model, shows that the model can be well applied to the analysis of slope stability with similarity, it may provide an important basis for the slope project construction.
