Anaerobic co-digestion of dairy manure, chicken manure with corn stalks were investigated at 15, 35 and 55 °C. Two trials were carried out, one based on co-digestion of dairy or chicken manure alone with corn stalks at ratios of 1:1, 2:1 and 3:1, the other based on co-digestion of dairy and chicken manure together with corn stalks on the premise of the optimal ratio between manure and stalks. In the first trial, the analysis based on the biogas and methane yields showed that co-digestion of dairy or chicken manure with corn stalks at 2:1 both had higher fermentabilities than other ratios. In the second trial, at 15 °C and 35 °C, various ratios of co-digestion of dairy and chicken manure together with corn stalks were all higher than co-digestion of two kinds of manure alone with corn stalks and maximum biogas and methane yields were obtained at the C/N ratios from 25 to 28. At 55 °C, only at the mixture ratios of 1.6:0.4:1, co-digestion of dairy and chicken manure together with corn stalks were higher than co-digestion of dairy manure with corn stalks, indicating the optimal C/N ratios from 28 to 30 in biogas and methane production. Based on regression analysis, maximum biogas and methane yields were found at 49.9 °C and 46.9 °C with the ratios of dairy, chicken manure and corn stalks at 1.14:0.86:1 and 0.74:1.26:1, respectively.

The changing parameters, as the biogas production rate, the methane production rate, the cumulative biogas amount, the cumulative methane amount, the biogas composition, pH etc. in high temperature anaerobic fermentation of chicken manure and stalks were analyzed by experiments with different mass ratios of chicken manure or livestock manure and stalks with a high C/N ratio. The methane production mechanism of high temperature anaerobic digestion of chicken manure and stalks was discussed in detail. It showed that not only the biogas production rates but also the methane production rates of R1–R7 demonstrated the trend of initial increase and then decrease after 50 d of high temperature anaerobic digestion. Besides, the gas production of R1 with pure chicken manure stopped on the 30th d of the reaction. The gas production of other groups R2–R7 also stopped on the corresponding 34th, 36th, 36th, 37th, 37th, and 37th day, respectively. At the end of the reaction, the cumulative biogas amounts and the cumulative methane amounts of R1–R7 were 411.58 and 269.54, 459.91 and 314.41, 425.32 and 294.11, 401.85 and 272.54, 382.63 and 257.07, 363.04 and 218.16, and 257.15 and 160.10 N ml/(g VS). The biogas slurry pH of R1–R7 all demonstrated a trend of initial decrease and then increase, e. g., pH of R2 reached the minimum of 5.94 on the 5th day. pH values of other groups were between 6.01 and 6.39. After the addition of 4 g of sodium bicarbonate on the 7th day, biogas slurry pH of R1–R7 all increased. pH was maintained between 7.16 and 7.44 until the end of the reaction.

This paper performs a batch experiment for pre-acidification treatment and methane production from chicken manure by the two-stage anaerobic fermentation process. Results shows that the acetate was the main component in volatile fatty acids produced at the end of pre-acidification stage, accounting for 68% of the total amount. The daily biogas production experienced three peak period in methane production stage, and the methane content reached 60% in the second period and then slowly reduced to 44.5% in the third period. The cumulative methane production was fitted by modified Gompertz equation, and the kinetic parameters of the methane production potential, the maximum methane production rate and lag phase time were 345.2 ml, 0.948 ml/h and 343.5 h, respectively. The methane yield of 183 ml-CH4/g-VSremoved during the methane production stage and VS removal efficiency of 52.7% for the whole fermentation process were achieved.

AbstractAnaerobic digestion of aqueous glycol ethylene was tested. The process lasted two cycles of 7 days, but after the second cycle, high hydrogen production occurred shift to dark fermentation. The biogas production lasted 14 days, obtaining peak values of hydrogen, and then rapidly stopped. In investigations, the following were checked: dependence of hydrogen, methane and hydrogen sulphide in the process. Mixtures of water with glycol ethylene mass ratio from 0.6 to 0.85 were substrates in experiments. The highest methane production was for water ethylene 0.7 ratio 2.85 L of methane with a yield of 178 mL of methane/g VSS (volatile suspended solids) of glycol ethylene. The optimal ratio of water and glycol ethylene was 0.85 25.5 mL of hydrogen (giving yield 1.71 mL of hydrogen/g VSS of glycol ethylene) and 1.71 mL of hydrogen sulphide emission for a 0.6 ratio. Popular polymer industry wastes, glycol ethylene, can be utilised by anaerobic digestion.

This research aimed to evaluate the biochemical methane potential (BMP) of three livestock manures including swine manure (SM), chicken manure (CM), and dairy manure (DM) under the same conditions in batch anaerobic digestion (AD) including inoculum to substrate ratio, temperature, digestion time, concentration of total solids in the system, and reactor size.  The experiments were performed on individual manure, 2-manure mixture, and 3-manure mixture.  For the individual manure experiments, BMP of SM, CM, and DM were 326.97, 306.60, and 105.30 mL/gVSadded; and volatile solids (VS) removal values were 66.31, 62.47, and 52.02%, respectively. In the 2-manure mixture; SM: DM, SM: CM, and CM: DM ratios of 90:10%TS, the BMP were 278.15, 264.47, and 252.80 mL/gVSadded, respectively. In the 3-manure mixture, the maximum BMP was 200.82 mL/gVSadded under the SM: CM: DM combination of 74:20:6%TS. The conditions of the 3 experiments were similar: the total solids concentration at 20% of working volume and the temperature of 37°C. It could be concluded that each manure i.e., SM, CM, and DM could be used as raw material for methane production by anaerobic digestion. SM generated the highest BMP, followed by CM and DM, respectively.  However, DM should not be used as raw material alone, except combining it with SM or CM for better methane production.

The knowledge about nutrient dynamics in the soil is pivotal for sustainable agriculture. A comprehensive research trial can retort unanswered questions. Dynamics of nutrients sourced from organic amendment types (chicken manure, dairy manure, and MilorganiteTM) applied at different rates (0, 168, 336, 672 kg total N/ha) were monitored within and below the rootzone of collard greens cultivated on a sandy loam soil in Prairie View, TX, USA. Macro- and micronutrients (e.g., TN: total nitrogen, P: phosphorous, K: potassium, Na: sodium, Ca: calcium, Mg: magnesium, B: boron, Cu: copper, Fe: iron, and Zn: zinc) were analyzed from soil solution samples collected during six sampling periods from within and below the rootzone. As hypothesized, the organic amendment types and rates significantly (p < 0.05 and/or 0.01) affected nutrient dynamics within and below the crop rootzone. Chicken manure released significantly more TN, P, K, Na, Ca, Mg, B, Cu, and Fe than the other two amendments. The application of chicken manure and MilorganiteTM resulted in higher below-the-rootzone leachate concentration of TN, Na, Mg, and Ca than in the leachates of dairy manure. Dairy manure treatments had the lowest concentrations of TN, Ca, and Mg; whereas, MilorganiteTM had the lowest concentrations of P, K, Na, B, and Cu in the collected leachates. The higher level of P (i.e., 4% in MilorganiteTM as compared to 2 and 0.5% in chicken and dairy manures, respectively, might have reduced the formation of Vesicular-Arbuscular (VA) mycorrhizae—a fungus with the ability to dissolve the soil P, resulting in slow release of P from MilorganiteTM treatment than from the other two treatments. Patterns of nutrient dynamics varied with rain and irrigation events under the effects of the soil water and time lapse of the amendment applications’ rates and types. All the macronutrients were present within the rootzone and leached below the rootzone, except Na. The dynamic of nutrients was element-specific and was influenced by the amendments’ type and application rate.

SummaryWe measured total and free protein S (PS), protein C (PC) and factor X (FX) in 393 healthy blood donors to assess differences in relation to sex, hormonal state and age. All measured proteins were lower in women as compared to men, as were levels in premenopausal women as compared to postmenopausal women. Multiple regression analysis showed that both age and subgroup (men, pre- and postmenopausal women) were of significance for the levels of total and free PS and PC, the subgroup effect being caused by the differences between the premenopausal women and the other groups. This indicates a role of sex-hormones, most likely estrogens, in the regulation of levels of pro- and anticoagulant factors under physiologic conditions. These differences should be taken into account in daily clinical practice and may necessitate different normal ranges for men, pre- and postmenopausal women.

The progress of the Islamic bank cannot be separated from the role of its customers who give trust to the bank to deposit their financial assets. It is a fact many groups of customers decide to be the customers of the Islamic bank because of their religiosity. The other influences factor of a customer’s decision is the quality of the product. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of product quality and level of customers’ religiosity towards customers’ decision whether to keep their funds in Syariah Mandiri Bank, Branch of Purwokerto, or not. The analytical tool used was multiple linear regression analysis, with a sample of 100 customers. The results indicate Y = 5,046 + 0,101X1 + 0,218X2. Based on F, it can be seen that both variables of product quality and religiosity simultanously affect the customers’ decision to keep theirfunds in BSM Branch of Purwokerto. Based on t test, it can be seen that independently, either variable of product quality or variables of religiosityinfluences the customers’ decision to keep their funds in BSM Branch of Purwokerto.

It is a common assumption that children with disabilities are more likely to experience victimization than their peers without disabilities. However, there is a paucity of robust research supporting this assumption in the current literature. In response to this need, we conducted a logistic regression analysis using a national dataset of responses from 26,572 parents/caregivers to children with and without disabilities across all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia. The purpose of our study was to acquire a greater understanding of the odds of victimization among children with and without intellectual disability (ID), while controlling for several child and parent/adult demographic correlates. Most notably, our study revealed that children with ID have 2.84 times greater odds of experiencing victimization than children without disabilities, after adjusting for the other predictors in the model. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.
