This paper is aimed to analyse contact stress of ring-plate indexing cam mechanism which is a new type of indexing cam mechanism. A contact finite element model of the cam and the pin gear is established with the commercial software of MATLAB and ANSYS. With the finite element analysis, the contact stress of the cam and the pin gear is predicted in one motion cycle. On the basis of the finite element analysis, the force and the position of maximum stress are obtained. The conclusion proposed here is reliable to instruct the design of ring-plate indexing cam mechanism.

According to the property of contact problem, the calculation formula of contact stress of cross-roller slewing bearing is derived under the action of eccentric axial load. The finite element model of slewing bearing is analyzed in ANSYS, and then the finite element analysis software is used to analyze the contact stress. In this way, the distribution condition of contact stress between roller and rings is obtained. By comparing the finite element analysis results with theoretical analysis results, the correctness of finite element analysis is certified, which provides a guide for the design and optimization of slewing bearing.

Abstract The effects of variations in stiffness and geometry on the nonuniformity of tires are investigated by using the finite element analysis. In order to evaluate tire uniformity, a three-dimensional finite element model of the tire with imperfections is developed. This paper considers how imperfections, such as variations in stiffness or geometry and run-out, contribute to detrimental effects on tire nonuniformity. It is found that the radial force variation of a tire with imperfections depends strongly on the geometrical variations of the tire.

The effect of flexion angle on contact stress of the knee joint still open to the debate since lack of proof shown that flexion angles does effect the contact stress of Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). Thus the aim of this study is to investigate the effect of different flexion angle on contact stress of TKA via finite element method. The TKA is simulated using ANSYS Workbench and the applied loads are 2200 N, 3200 N and 2800 N. The Finite element Analysis (FEA) results for maximum stress of current and proposed designed were then compared. For the new proposed design, the maximum stress for 15° is 12.2 MPa, 45° is 23.6 MPa and 60° is 22.5 MPa which is lower than current design. Thus, it can be concluded that the new proposed design better than current design in term of contact stress. While, the different flexion angle do gives an impact on the performance of the TKA.

According to the cutting theory of involute tooth profile, established an exact three-dimensional parametric model by UG. Used ABAQUS to crate finite element model for gear meshing. After simulated the meshing process, discussed the periodicity of the tooth surface contact stress. Based on the result of finite element analysis, made a comparison of the maximum contact stress between finite element solution and Hertz theoretical solution, analyzed the contact stress distribution on tooth width, and researched the effect of friction factor on contact stress. All that provided some theoretical basis for gear contact strength design.

Frame has important effects on the performance of the whole of heavy semi-trailer. A heavy semi-trailer frame is analyzed and researched on in the finite-element way in this article. The frame of 3D geometric model is established by using Pro/E. And it was imported into the Hypermesh to establish frame finite element model. Frame are calculated by using ANSYS solver in bending condition, emergency braking conditions and rapid turn conditions of stress and deformation conditions. The computational tools and methods we used provide the new type of frame and development with a reference method to refer to in this paper.

In the traditional designs of milling cutter, we cannot get the required accuracy of machining as there may be local deformation on the edges, even more the cutter can break down. Aiming at this situation, a finite-element model of straight pin milling cutter with helical tooth are built using Marc, a nonlinear finite-element analysis software, the different cutting forces of the milling cutter during the cutting process are analyzed and the cutting forces of the milling cutter at different parameters are studied. We get the stress, the strain and the temperature distribution of the milling cutter in different situation. Our work offer a theoretical basis of improving stress of the cutter, designing the structure of cutters reasonably and analyzing the cutter failure as well as a new method of analysis and calculation of the cutter life and strength.

In this paper, the clamping unit of a two-platen injection molding machine was modeled by Pro/ENGINEER, and was imported to Altair HyperWorks. In HyperMesh module, the finite element model was set up, ANSYS has been used in the finite element analysis of the clamping unit and the deformation and stress results were obtained. Based on the topology optimization of HyperWorks/OptiStruct, recommendations to improve the structure of the clamping mechanism are presented; the results showed that less material was used while its performance was maintained.

Based on the model experiment on seismic behavior of a 1-span, 2-story concrete-filled rectangular steel tubal (CFRST) frame under lateral cyclic loads, a 3-D nonlinear finite element model of concrete-filled rectangular steel tubular frame is proposed in the paper. Compared with the experimental hysteresis curve, the computational results are found to be accurate, which shows that this model proposed in the paper can be applied in structure analysis of concrete-filled rectangular tubular frames. So the model was used in the finite element analysis of concrete-filled rectangular frame with different axial load level. Compared the computational displacement envelop curves, it concludes that the ductility and bearing capacity of CFRST frames reduces with the increasing axial load level.

Strain clamp is an important connection device in guy tower. If the quality of the compression splicing position is unsatisfied, strain clamp tends to be damaged which may lead to the final collapse of a guy tower as well as huge economic lost. In this paper, stress distribution on the compressible tube and guy cable is analyzed by FEM, and a large equivalent stress of guy cable is applied to the compression splicing position. During this process, a finite element model of strain clamp is established for guy cables at compression splicing position, problems of elastic-plastic and contracting are studied and the whole compressing process of compressible position is simulated. The guy cable cracks easily at the position of compressible tube’s port, the inner part of the compressible tube has a larger equivalent stress than outside.

The finite element model about greenhouse canopy of seismic analysis was setted up, The finite element analysis software ANSYS was used to study structure displacement, stress analysis on greenhouse shed. The results showed that the dangerous part of the canopy were located on upper chord members, lower chord members, web members of the framework and the lower and upper, the inside of both sides of the wall with seismic load.Corresponding to this results ,the main destroied form were the framework damage caused by the bending deformation of upper chord members, lower chord members and the upper web members and the unstability caused by the distortion of both sides of the wall.
