The soft rock stratum, possessing the characteristics of poor anchorage and large deformation, is frequently encountered in underground coal excavation where stability of the whole mining structure is always affected by the soft rock. Therefore, the bolt-grouting support technology in pursuit of an effective way for stability control of soft rock chamber of coal mine in china is conducted. Meanwhile, strata behaviors monitoring is carried out in the chamber to verify effect of bolt-grouting support. The results demonstrate that bolt-grouting goes well in soft rock chamber support.

Improving the safety and stability of soft surrounding rock with nonlinear large deformation gives a strong guarantee for the safe mining and sustainable development of deep coal mines. In order to control the nonlinear large deformation of the surrounding rock in a deep soft rock roadway, this paper discusses the nonlinear large deformation mechanism and coupling support countermeasures of a typical engineering application at Xin’an coal mine in Gansu province, China. The series of experiments and theoretical analysis described in this paper reveal the phenomena, properties, and reasons for the nonlinear large deformation of soft surrounding rock in detail. Then, the type of nonlinear large deformation mechanism is determined and transformed from a composite one to a simple one. Based on experimental results and mechanism transformation, a suitable coupling support countermeasure, which contains the Constant Resistance Large Deformation (CRLD) bolt, steel mesh, floor hollow grouting cable, and steel fiber concrete, is proposed to reduce the nonlinear large deformation and the potential risk during mining. The application shows that the coupling support countermeasure can effectively reduce the nonlinear large deformation of the surrounding rock and help to maintain the stability of the deep soft rock roadway at Xin’an coal mine.

In this study, the deformation characteristics and mechanical properties of coal and rock mass in the S2N5 working face of the Xiaokang coal mine are analyzed to address the problem of large deformation of soft rocks with high in situ stress surrounding roadways. Through a newly developed grouting pipe, a double-shell grouting technology, consisting of low-pressure grouting and high-pressure split grouting, is proposed for the Xiaokang coal mine. In addition, the effect of grouting is evaluated by borehole peeping and deformation monitoring. The results show that the double-shell grouting technology can effectively improve the overall mechanical properties of the surrounding coal and rock mass, preventing the large deformation and failure of the roadway. This technology can be useful when analyzing and preventing large deformation of soft rock roadways.

Numerical simulation and field measurement were carried out to investigate into laws of deformation and movement and the evolving characteristics of the plastic region around the roadway based on engineering conditions of deep soft rock roadway in Wangfenggang colliery, Huainan Mining area. The mechanism of controlling the surrounding rock stability of soft rock roadway in deep coal mine was demonstrated. The supporting of soft rock roadway in deep coal mine must be compatible with deformation and failure characteristics of surrounding rock, and it can keep the stability of surrounding rock. The combined supporting with high strength and prestress bolting-anchoring and integral surrounding rock grouting reinforcement can effectively control the surrounding rock deformation of soft rock roadway in deep coal mine. But every working step must be pay attention to sequence on the time and space so that it can play an integral supporting effect. Research results are put into practice accordingly and good control effect has been achieved.

Double primary support structures could effectively solve the problem of large deformation of surrounding rock for soft rock tunnels. However, the mechanical behavior of this new support structure is still incomplete, and the design method should be revised. Based on the theory of energy conversion, this paper analyzes the support characteristic curve of double primary support and puts forward the dynamic design method of double primary support. Considering that the secondary lining can be set after monitoring the deformation amount and deformation rate of the first primary support, its support parameters can be dynamically adjusted according to the actual situation. By applying the double primary support design method in the Maoxian tunnel of Chenglan Railway, the field monitoring results show that the double primary support has a significant effect on the energy release of surrounding rocks, greatly reducing the load acting on the secondary lining and ensuring the safety and reliability of the tunnel structure.

High-efficiency maintenance and control of the deep coal roadway surrounding rock stability is a reliable guarantee for sustainable development of a coal mine. However, it is difficult to control the stability of a roadway that locates near a roadway with large deformation. With return air roadway 21201 (RAR 21201) in Hulusu coal mine as the research background, in situ investigation, theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and engineering practice were carried out to study pressure relief effect on the surrounding rock after the severe deformation of the roadway. Besides, the feasibility of excavating a new roadway near this damaged one by means of pressure relief effect is also discussed. Results showed that after the strong mining roadway suffered huge loose deformation, the space inside shrank so violently that surrounding rock released high stress to a large extent, which formed certain pressure relief effect on the rock. Through excavating a new roadway near this deformed one, the new roadway could obtain a relative low stress environment with the help of the pressure relief effect, which is beneficial for maintenance and control of itself. Equal row spacing double-bearing ring support technology is proposed and carried out. Engineering practice indicates that the new excavated roadway escaped from possible separation fracture in the roof anchoring range, and the surrounding rock deformation of the new roadway is well controlled, which verifies the pressure relief effect mentioned. This paper provides a reference for scientific mining under the condition of deep buried and high stress mining in western China.

Compared with I-shaped and U-shaped supports in soft rock roadway, concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) support, as a new supporting form, has stronger bearing capacity with reasonable price. So it is becoming more and more popular in roadway supporting of coal mine in China. In this article, the surrounding rock in soft rock roadway was classified into three different types: hard rock in deep coal mine, soft surrounding rock, extremely soft surrounding rock. And, according to the characteristics of deformation failure of the CFST support and the surrounding rock in the industrial tests, three different strength assessments, including assessment of axial compressive strength, assessment of lateral flexural performance, assessment of hardening rate of core concrete, were proposed through mechanical analysis and laboratory tests for the three different types of the surrounding rock, respectively. Moreover, aimed to insufficient flexural strength of the support or low hardening rate of the core concrete in some of the roadway supporting, strengthening lateral flexural performance or making early strength concrete was necessary for the above unfavorable situations. The laboratory test results showed that the ultimate bearing capacity for the CFST support with φ194*8mm of steel tube reinforced by φ38mm round steel was 31% greater than that of the unreinforced one, 177% greater than that of the U-shaped one with equivalent weight per unit length.
