Hollow BiVO4 microspheres composed of nanosized particles were successfully prepared via a simple hydrothermal reaction route at 170C for 12 h. The crystal structures, morphologies, and optical properties of the as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-visible absorption spectra (UV-vis). Simulated Sun-light induced photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B by hollow BiVO4 microspheres has been investigated, and the results show the hollow structures with excellent photocatalytic activity.

Porous peanut-like Sm-doped BiVO4 sub-microstructures were synthesized via a hydrothermal process with bismuth nitrate, ammonium metavanadate and Sm (NO3)3 as raw materials. The crystal structures, morphologies, and optical properties of the as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscope, scanning electron microscopy, and UV-visible absorption spectra. Simulated solar light induced photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B by porous peanut-like Sm-doped BiVO4 sub-microstructures have been investigated, and results show the 2% Sm-doped BiVO4 porous sub-microstructures with higher photocatalytic activity than other samples.

Nanocubes, monodispersed nanocrystals and nanospheres of Au have been prepared by a simple reaction between HAuCl4·4H2O, NaOH and NH2OH·HCl in the presence of gelatin. The role of gelatin and the affection of pH in producing the nanoparticles of Au were discussed. The products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and UV-visible absorption spectroscopy. The sizes of the monodispersed nanocrystals of Au were estimated by Debye-Scherrer formula according to XRD spectrum.

Fe-doped TiO2nanotubes (Fe-TNTs) have been prepared by ultrasonic-assisted hydrothermal method. The structure and composition of the as-prepared TiO2nanotubes were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy. Their photocatalytic activities were evaluated by the degradation of MO under visible light. The UV-visible absorption spectra of the Fe-TNT showed a red shift and an enhancement of the absorption in the visible region compared to the pure TNT. The Fe-TNTs were provided with good photocatalytic activities and photostability and under visible light irradiation, and the optimum molar ratio of Ti : Fe was found to be 100 : 1 in our experiments.

Perovskite lead titanate crystals with various morphologies were successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal reaction route with different lead sources. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) were employed to characterize the phase composition and the morphology of the synthesized products. In order to investigate the effect of the lead source on the phase formation and morphology evolution of the synthesized pervoskite PbTiO3 crystals, PbO, PbF2, PbSO4 and Pb (CH3COO)3 ·3H2O, were used as starting precursor lead source introduced into the hydrothermal reaction system, respectively. Accordingly, perovskite PbTiO3 brken cubes, irregular particles, cubic particles, and microplates were obtained, respectively. Based on the experimental results, the effect of lead source was simply discussed.

Undoped and Ce doped Bi2MoO6samples were synthesized by hydrothermal reaction at 180°C for 20 h. Phase, morphology, atomic vibration, and optical properties were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectrophotometry, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), and UV-visible spectroscopy. In this research, the products were orthorhombic Bi2MoO6nanoplates with the growth direction along the [0b0], including the asymmetric and symmetric stretching and bending modes of Bi–O and Mo–O. Undoped and Ce doped Bi2MoO6samples show a strong absorption in the UV region.

Novel mace-like (wolf-teeth clubs) CdS nanostructures were successfully prepared on a large scale using CdCl2•2.5H2O and NH2CSNH2 as starting materials through a convenient mixed-solvothermal route. The as-synthesized products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-visible absorption spectroscopy. The experimental results reveal that the morphology of CdS products was greatly affected by the volume ratio of anhydrous ethanol and distilled water. The possible mechanism for the formation of mace-like CdS nanostructures is simply discussed.

Cube-shaped CdS nanoparticles have been successfully prepared by a sonochemical method in an oil-in-water microemulsion. The product was characterized by using techniques including X-ray powder diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and UV-visible absorption spectroscopy. This microemulsion system in the presence of high-intensity ultrasound irradiation provides special conditions for the nucleation and growth of the CdS nanoparticles.

Core/shell structured TiO2/ZnO was synthesized in a basic aqueous solution through a simple hydrolyzing method. The powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy of the initial TiO2/ZnO powder showed diffraction peaks corresponding to the ZnO and TiO2 phase. The structure and thickness of ZnO shell (about 2.5 nm) coated TiO2 surface as thin layers or nanoclusters, depends upon the reactant concentration and the reaction time. The characteristics of the optical absorption were described by UV-visible absorption spectroscopy.

This paper investigates the photocatalytic characteristics of Ag nanowire (AgNW)/TiO2 and AgNW/TiO2/graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites. Samples were synthesized by the direct coating of TiO2 particles on the surface of silver nanowires. As-prepared AgNW/TiO2 and AgNW/TiO2/GO nanocomposites were characterized by electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV/visible absorption spectroscopy, and infrared spectroscopy. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) images confirmed the successful deposition of TiO2 nanoparticles on the surface of AgNWs. The photocatalytic activity of synthesized nanocomposites was evaluated using Rhodamine B (RhB) in an aqueous solution as the model organic dye. Results showed that synthesized AgNW/TiO2/GO nanocomposite has superior photocatalytic activities when it comes to the decomposition of RhB.

ZnS nanofibers with lamellar mesostructure could be built up from in situ generated ZnS precursors via hydrothermal routes using neutral n-alkylamines as structure-directing template and ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) as stabilizer. The morphology and structure of the obtained products were thoroughly investigated via scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive analysis of X-rays (EDX), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and thermal analyses. HRTEM and XRD results revealed that the so-produced nanofibers were lamellar mesostructure and its framework was built of crystalline wurtzite ZnS . It was also found that the distance between the layers was proportional to the chain length of the alkylamine. The UV-visible absorption spectrum showed that the nanofibers exhibited strong quantum-confined effect with a blue shift in the band gap. Finally, a probable mechanism for the assembly of the nanofibers was also proposed.
