Smart meter reading system is the core of advanced metering infrastructure for Smart Grid. Wireless sensor network is an important means to realize the power information collection. Based on hierarchical strategy, this article proposed a method to establish routing in wireless smart meter reading system. This method provides reliable two-way communication routing, but also greatly reduces the collision probability of network communications. In order to verify the feasibility of the approach, a large number of simulation experiments were carried out. This idea has been applied in actual engineering practice.

The traditional and estimated billing system of electric energy consumed in most part of Sub-Saharan Africa has become a lingering issue to the electricity consumers. This has therefore necessitated the advent of smart electric meters. In this work, we propose a smart electric meter reader that provides an efficient and economically viable technique for measuring the consumption of electricity. This proposed method tends to solve many issues of the traditional reading system, such as reading efficiency, accuracy, and the elimination of human interface. Our proposed method, consisting of a GSM module, is used to wirelessly communicate the smart meter readings to the electricity provider and the consumer in form of a text message. The results obtained from the evaluation of this work show that our proposed method has improved the accuracy of the meter reading process for proper accountability.

Writing is a relatively recent cultural invention, and reading is a skill that requires years of instruction, dedication, and practice. My talk will consider how the nature of a writing system influences reading acquisition and skilled reading. I consider the nature of statistical regularities that characterize English orthography and show across several experiments that knowledge encoded in the skilled reading system mirrors these regularities. This analysis reveals that weaknesses in the relationship between spelling and sound give rise to powerful regularities between spelling and meaning that are critical for text comprehension. I conclude by thinking about how written language differs from spoken language and argue that these differences may be at the heart of human capacity for rapid, skilled reading.

Electronic newspapers are now becoming available via wide-area computer networks, such as the Internet. Unfortunately, the Windows-based graphical user interface of the client programs makes it difficult for visually impaired people to use such services. Furthermore, few visually impaired people have a PC. The AUDIOMAT project was designed to provide a reading system for the visually impaired, thus giving this community in the Campania region of southern Italy the opportunity to read their local newspaper. In a pilot trial, three blind subjects used the AUDIOMAT system daily for two months. Despite some minor technical problems the system performed well and a wider validation phase is now planned.

The smart reading system based on wireless sensor network technology provides a reliable and economic choice for energy data acquisition of smart grid. The structure, main features and technological solutions of smart meter reading system based on wireless sensor network are analyzed in detail in this paper. Finally, this paper points out that the keys for developing China’s wireless sensor network technology are to self-establish standard system and break through critical technology.

Background and Objectives: Prematurity of birth occurs before the 37th week of gestation and affects up to 10% of births worldwide. It is correlated with critical outcomes; therefore, constant monitoring in neonatal intensive care units or home environments is required. The aim of this work was to develop solutions for remote neonatal intensive supervision systems, which should assist medical diagnosis of premature infants and raise alarm at cardiac abnormalities, such as bradycardia. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has put a worldwide stress upon the medical staff and the management of healthcare units. Materials and Methods: A traditional medical diagnosing scheme was set up, implemented with the aid of powerful mathematical operators. The algorithm was tailored to the infants’ personal ECG characteristics and was tested on real ECG data from the publicly available PhysioNet database “Preterm Infant Cardio-Respiratory Signals Database”. Different processing problems were solved: noise filtering, baseline drift removal, event detection and compression of medical data using the à trous wavelet transform. Results: In all 10 available clinical cases, the bradycardia events annotated by the physicians were correctly detected using the RR intervals. Compressing the ECG signals for remote transmission, we obtained compression ratios (CR) varying from 1.72 to 7.42, with the median CR value around 3. Conclusions: We noticed that a significant amount of noise can be added to a signal while monitoring using standard clinical sensors. We tried to offer solutions for these technical problems. Recent studies have shown that persons infected with the COVID-19 disease are frequently reported to develop cardiovascular symptoms and cardiac arrhythmias. An automatic surveillance system (both for neonates and adults) has a practical medical application. The proposed algorithm is personalized, no fixed reference value being applied, and the algorithm follows the neonate’s cardiac rhythm changes. The performance depends on the characteristics of the input ECG. The signal-to-noise ratio of the processed ECG was improved, with a value of up to 10 dB.
