This thesis is mainly focused on the geometric figure recognition. We provided many diverse shapes such as rectangle, ellipse, square, circle, parallelogram and other shapes. Based on different kinds of geometric shapes, a number of commonly used figure classification algorithm were designed to recognize all kinds of figures and a geometric figure painted on palette arbitrarily. The experimental results indicate that figure recognition algorithms can be well performed in an integrated graphical user interface.

This paper presents a 20-channel coincidence counting unit (CCU) using a low-end field-programmable gate array (FPGA). The architecture of the CCU can be configured arbitrarily to measure from twofold to twentyfold coincidence counts thanks to a multifold controllable architecture, which can be easily manipulated by a graphical user interface (GUI) program. In addition, it provides up to 20 of each input signal count simultaneously. The experimental results show twentyfold coincidence counts with the resolution occurring in a less than 0.5 ns coincidence window. This CCU has appropriate characteristics for various quantum optics experiments using multi-photon qubits.

FraGen is a real-space structure determination program capable of building structure models of inorganic extended frameworks. Despite its high efficiency in model building, it does not have a graphical user interface (GUI), which makes the input of instructions and the interpretation of results rather difficult. In this work, a Python GUI for FraGen has been developed. Using FraGen-GUI, users can easily prepare their instruction files for FraGen and visualize the corresponding output directly. More importantly, it can be used to remove duplicate models generated by FraGen, add bridging atoms that are missing in FraGen simulations and simulate XRD patterns for comparison with experimental results.

WOFOST version 7.1.3 is a computer model that simulates the growth and production of annual field crops. All the run options are operational through a graphical user interface named WOFOST Control Center version 1.8 (WCC). WCC facilitates selecting the production level, and input data sets on crop, soil, weather, crop calendar, hydrological field conditions, soil fertility parameters and the output options. The files with crop, soil and weather data are explained, as well as the run files and the output files. A general overview is given of the development and the applications of the model. Its underlying concepts are discussed briefly.
