The known process as Metal Injection Molding is derived from the conventional powder metallurgy (M/P) being an alternative for production of parts with complex geometry, great dimensional precision and freedom of chemical composition. The present work has the objective to evaluate the processing of the Fe3Si alloy sintering in the vacuum furnace using as raw materials iron powder carbonyl and prealloyed powder Fe45Si with D90<10-m. Properties of microhardness, density, coercivity, magnetic permeability, and chemical composition was evaluated. The obtained results were compared with what is presented in the literature for parts processed by conventional ways and with parts processed by M/P. A density of 7,620 kg/m3, a coercive field (Hc) of 101.14 A/m, a relative maximum permeability of 5,484 and a residual induction of 1.1 T was achieved by MIM. Comparing with conventional processes (where 100% of densification is reached), the MIM process results were worse, however they were better than P/M.

Brackets fabrication should be done by a suitable process to produce great result. Processes commonly used are investment casting, machining, and metal injection molding. Investment Casting has a drawback in which the surface roughness is quite high for the standard of brackets and require further processing. Machining is done by removing unwanted part to get desire shape, whereas bracket shape requires a high accuracy and is quite complicated. In Metal Injection Molding, feedstock is injected into a mold where complicated shapes can be achieved with a better surface roughness. The weakness is the stages within the process are quite long. One of the problem is the efficiency of debinding stage. We conducted an experiment to enhance binder removal rate through solvent debinding with stirring and under vacuum condition. Sample use for this experiment is a cubic shape of 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm3. Experiment is done on magnetic stirrer and in vacuum furnace. The temperature is hold at 50°C. Drying process afterward is done in the vacuum furnace for 1 hour with temperature around 50°C. Amount of binder left is confirmed by STA and the particle morphology is seen by SEM. Results showed that stirring treatment enhances binder removal rate due to stirring mechanism that causes possibility of collisions between particles increases. Binder removal rate on the vacuum treatment has a mechanism similar to stirring, but with the addition of the solvent to be done on a regular basis due to decrease of solvent boiling point under vacuum. There were no cracks found on the surface with an increased rate of debinding. Stirring is use for experiment with sample of actual bracketorthodontic form. Debinding rate of the bracket sample is faster than the cubic sample. This result is affected by the dissimilarity on the volume to surface area.

MIDC’s researchers in fulfilling Industry Development Programme have taken a step to develop technology in the design application of orthopedic implants to help suppress the rate of imported medical devices in Indonesia. This research objective was to make a prototype plate for a jawbone connector that meets the geometric specifications with the metal injection molding approach. The jawbone connector plate has a very small size of about 2 mm x 20 mm x 0.5 mm that needs precision mold with certain geometric specifications. MIM approach was used, from the literature reviews that show MIM is the appropriate process for manufacturing implants. The phases of MIM were done according to the standard reference which is making raw materials or feedstock, gatting system design, flow simulation, precision mold producing, mold testing, injection process, debinding, sintering, and mechanical product testing. The results of this study were precision molds with several variants and were test using plastic polypropylene to see the performance of the mold. The researchers then produce the jawbone connector implant using feedstock material. The test result conducted in MIDC successfully shows that the mold can produce shapes that match the required geometry.

In this study, the metal injection molding (MIM) process is applied to produce Ti-6Al-4V parts using blended and prealloyed powders, respectively. The feedstocks are prepared from a polyformaldehyde-based binder system with a powder loading of 60 vol%, exhibiting a low viscosity. The decomposition behavior of the binders is investigated and the thermal debinding procedure is designed accordingly. The debound parts are subsequently sintered at 1200 and 1300 °C. The results show the mechanical properties of the sintered samples prepared from blended powder are comparable to those prepared from prealloyed powder, with yield strength of 810 MPa, ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 927 MPa, and elongation of 4.6%. The density of the as-sintered samples can reach 4.26 g/cm3 while oxygen content is ~0.3%. Based on the results, watch cases with complex shapes are successfully produced from Ti-6Al-4V blended powder. The case gives a good example of applying metal injection molding to mass production of precise Ti-6Al-4V parts with complex shapes in a cost-effective way.

Chemical composition of the surface water and the contents of the radionuclides 238U, 226Ra, and 222Rn in water was examined within the natural and man-made landscapes of South Yakutiya. It was demonstrated that intense water migration of these radionuclides from radioactive dump pits of the man-made landscapes of the Elkonsky uranium-ore district, which were created during the process of wide-scale exploration surveys for radioactive raw materials conducted during the last third of the 20th century, had occurred. Currently, the areas of water dissipation of 238U and 226Ra are detected at a distances of 2 km and greater from the source of the radioactive contamination along the outflow vector.

Abstract Background Essential oil of Rosa × damascena Herrm. is one of the most valuable and important raw materials for the flavor and fragrance industry. The cultivation of this plant has ancient origins, and Kashan was one of the first mountainous regions of Iran dealing with the cultivation of R. × damascena. In this study, both chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of different rose essential oils obtained from five mountainous areas of Kashan region (Maragh, Qamsar, Sadeh, Javinan, and Kamoo) has been investigated along with the influence of the environmental conditions on these properties. Results Results showed that yield and chemical composition of essential oils obtained from Rosa × damascena were significantly affected by the collection area. In particular, the yield of oils varied from ~0.08 to ~0.132% and citronellol (36.70-9.18%), geraniol (12.82-0.47%), nonadecane (22.73-10.36%), heneicosane (31.7-11.43%), and 1-nonadecene (6.03-3.93%) have been detected as main compounds in all the plants collected, but at different concentrations depending on the collection area. The best fragrance and the highest yield were found in the oil from Kamoo area. Similarly to the chemical composition, the antimicrobial activity of the essential oils was affected by their origin, and essential oil obtained from plants collected from Kamoo area disclosed the highest antibacterial and antifungal efficacy. Its inhibition halos were 17.33±0.58 mm against Aspergillus brasiliensis, 15.67±0.58 mm against Staphylococcus aureus, and 12.33±0. 58 mm against Streptococcus pyogenes. Essential oils of R. damascena were also effective against Gram-negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa and they had a MIC value of 62.50 μg/mL irrespective of the collection area (except the oil from Javinan area). On the contrary, the highest antifungal power against Candida albicans yeast was reached using the essential oil obtained from plants collected in Javinan region (MIC and MBC ~62.50 μg/mL). Conclusions Overall results underline the influence of environmental conditions of the different areas of Kashan region, on the chemical composition of and antimicrobial activity of the essential oils of Rosa × damascena. In addition, results disclosed that Kamoo seemed to be the most suitable area for the competitive cultivation of R. × damascena to the intensive production of aromatic flower oil and natural antimicrobial essential oils.
