(Bi1-xSmx)(Fe0.95Mn0.05)O3(x=0.00, 0.03 and 0.06) thin films were deposited on the quartz substrates by sol-gel technique. The results of X-ray diffraction patterns indicated all thin films had rhombohedral perovskite structure. Moreover, the Sm and Mn co-doping at A-and B-site of BiFeO3resulted in the structural distortion. Scanning electron microscope measurements exhibited that the uniform surface morphology could be obtained by co-doping and the average grain size of the films decreased with increasing Sm content. Furthermore, the fundamental absorption edges ofxBSFMO films showed a blue shift with the increase of Sm content which can be observed in transmittance spectra. The optical band gap of the thin films forx= 0.00, 0.03 and 0.06 can be expressed by (0.84x+2.62) eV, which is due to the Burstein-Moss effect.

ABSTRACTThin films of SrBi2Nb2O9 (SBN) with thicknesses of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 μ were grown by Sol-gel technique on silicon, and annealed at 650°C. The SBN films were investigated by Raman scatering for the first time. Raman spectra in some of the samples present bands around 60, 167, 196, 222, 302, 451, 560, 771, 837, and 863 cm−1, which correspond to the SBN formation. The study indicates that the films are inhomogeneous, and only in samples with thicknesses 0.4 μ the SBN material was found in some places. The prominent Raman band around 870 cm−1, which is the A1g mode of the orthorhombic symmetry, is assigned to the symmetric stretching of the NbO6 octahedrals. The frequency of this band is found to shift in different places in the same sample, as well as from sample to sample. The frequency shifts and the width of the Raman bands are discussed in term of ions in non-equilibrium positions. FT-IR spectra reveal a sharp peak at 1260 cm−1, and two broad bands around 995 and 772 cm−1. The bandwidths of the latter two bands are believed to be associated with the presence of a high degree of defects in the films. The experimental results of the SBN films are compared with those obtained in SBT (T=Ta) films. X-ray diffraction and SEM techniques are also used for the structural characterization.

Thin films in the system (1 - x) PbTiO3−xLa2/3TiO3 were prepared by the sol-gel and dip-coating methods. Phases deposited in the films and the lattice parameters as a function of the composition were investigated by the x-ray diffraction method. The solid solutions with a perovskite structure were formed as a single phase with x up to 0.9. For the composition of x = 1.0, metastable La-Ti-O perovskite phase with a small amount of the impurity phase, La2Ti2O7, was obtained. Simulation of x-ray diffraction patterns based on the defect structure model shows that the structure of the La-Ti-O perovskite phase includes randomly distributed cation vacancies at the A-site, namely (La2/3□1/3)TiO3.

ABSTRACT(PbBa)(ZrTiNb)03 thin films and powders have been prepared using the sol-gel technique. Solutions were synthesized in 2-methoxyethanol based upon our previous PZT solution preparation. Three different approaches were used for incorporating barium into PZT alkoxide solutions. Thermal analysis and x-ray diffraction results indicated that barium methoxypropoxide gave the best results. PBZTN (71% Pb and 71% Zr) was deposited onto sapphire substrates as well as oxidized silicon substrates. Optical transmission measurements showed greater than 80% transmission for wavelengths longer than 400 nm. Films with thickness of 3000 Å on sapphire exhibited a refractive index of 2.19 at λ=633 nm.

"Barium strontium Titanate (BST) is a solid solution consist of BaTiO3 and SrTiO3 that mixed with suitable ratio. Barium strontium Titanate oxide (Ba0.8Sr0.2TiO3) thin films prepared by sol gel technique. Barium strontium Titanate thin films deposited on Si substrate and annealed at [400,500, 600 and 700] ºC. The characterization of BST films investigated by a different technique, the X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Macroscopy (SEM) revealed the phases, crystal structure and surface topography of the films. XRD pattern shows tetragonal phase for Ba0.8Sr0.2TiO3 perovskite structure with many peaks for different plans. The films annealed at the different temperature that indicated intermediate phases on perovskite structure of Ba0.8Sr0.2TiO3.

SiOxCuOythin films were prepared by the deposition on to the Si/SiO2substrates from the alcoholic solutions employing the sol-gel technique. The various analytic techniques were applied to characterize structure and properties of the films under study . The both X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) studies showed the presence CuO as well as CuO2phases and formation of a dual-oxide CuSiO3with the average crystallites sizes of 35-50 nm. The conductance of the films was rather sensitive to the presence of 1-20 ppm NO2concentration at the operating temperatures in the range of 20–200◦C.

Abstract Multiferroic (1- x)Bi0.85Nd0.15Fe0.98Zr0.02O3- xBaTiO3 (x = 0, 0.275, 0.3, 0.325, 0.35, 0.375, 0.4) ceramics were synthesized by the conventional solid state reaction method. X-ray diffraction studies confirm the phase transition from rhombohedral perovskite structure to pseudocubic structure with the introduction of BaTiO3. The results of the refinement indicate the BaTiO3 is successfully doped into the crystal lattice. The microstructure analysis shows that the average grain size increases with the introduction of BaTiO3. An increase in remanant polarization has been achieved at room temperature as the BaTiO3 concentration increasing. A greatly reduced leakage current density of about two orders of magnitude is observed in x = 0.375 (J = 2.4×10− 7 A/cm2) ceramic. The dielectric properties have been enhanced by the addition of BaTiO3, which is attributed to the reduction in Fe2+ ions and oxygen vacancies. Due to the grain effect and structure transition caused by the doping of BaTiO3, the magnetization reveals a slight decrease while the coercive field for x = 0.325 (Hc = 1785.8 Oe) increases to 6.4 times of the undoped ceramic.

In this work thin films containing laser dye (DCM) doped with polystyrene (PS) were prepared using casting method. Titania (TiO2) nanoparticles also were synthesized using sol gel technique. Characteristics of the tetania were done using XRD patter, and the characteristic peak of anatase is sharper and clear to observe, in particular at 25.40° degree. While scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to achieve the morphology of TiO2samples, and to determine the sizes of nanoparticles. Different titania nanoparticle densities (0.882×1020, 1.765×1020, 2.648×1020, 3.530×1020and 4.413×1020cm-3) were co-doping with dye doped polymer and study the effect of this addition on the optical properties and electronic transition energy gaps in cases of both direct and indirect transitions.
