Background: Technology and innovation have become a worldwide feature of business. Virtually, no organisation can survive without technology and innovation. When it comes to developing technology and innovation strategies, managers are often left alone to decide which technology and innovation types to pursue.Aim: This article investigates the various key challenges faced by metropolitan cities or municipalities in managing competitive advantage through technology and innovation in Kaohsiung Government City, Taiwan.Setting: The study focused on key challenges faced by metropolitan cities or municipalities in managing competitive advantage through technology and innovation at Kaohsiung City Government in Taiwan.Methods: The methodology used in this study is mainly the secondary data analysis. A complete and thoroughly secondary data analysis process has been utilised as a research design and approach to complete this research work. This study collected secondary data through comprehensive analysis about various aspects such as document analysis or desktop study, technical reports, scholarly journals, government documents, research institutions.Results: The result shows that there are various key challenges including research and development and innovation, information security or contingency planning, rapidly advancing technologies, ageing technology and under-investment and the change in residents’ expectations.Conclusion: This article has identified various challenges affecting businesses or organisations, particularly City Governments in competitive advantage through managing technology and innovation. This include inter alias: manpower training and recruiting, organisational transformation, rapidly advancing technologies, ageing technology and underinvestment, the change in residents’ expectations.

This study compares the state of city government service delivery for communities living in different areas with different level of affluence in Rajshahi City in Bangladesh. Based on the results of a qualitative study, we found a significant service disparity between the affluent and the poor communities. This disparity is due to the inability of the poor to hold service providers accountable, attributable to a lack of knowledge about services and a lack of social status. Lack of quality monitoring and a marked bias in the quality of interactions between the poor and the affluent contribute to the service disparity This disparity is largely invisible to the poor who, instead of comparing themselves with the affluent citizens, compare themselves with a similar class of people.

Competition among small businesses are high, as small businesses compete for market share which larger business do not engage with. A definite competitive advantage that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can rely on is service quality (Kasul & Motwani in Anuar & Yusuff 2011:328; Tseng & Wu 2014:77). SMEs do not necessarily understand service standards and how to ensure that the service standard is implemented. The research utilised a quantitative research design whereby the data was collected by means of a 5-point Likert scale survey known as the SERVQUAL model. The results indicate that there are discrepancies between dimensions those owners feel should be adhered to and the extent to which they perceive their businesses to adhere to these dimensions.

Global service sector growth and the contracting out of services have produced a complex business environment that has major challenges for corporate success. Nowhere is this more evident than in intercultural service encounters where the delivery of service standards has become integral to developing a competitive advantage and inducing customer loyalty. This chapter identifies the various aspects of service delivery that are significantly influenced by culture. The chapter explains the dimensions of culture that have been found by cross-cultural researchers to be essential to service delivery success and describes how cross cultural training can be used effectively in the international service sector.

The public services reform is still become an agenda of Indonesian Government. All this time, City government of Denpasar is one of the local government known by integrating public service delivery using technology (E-Government). Nevertheless, there is a new concept that has been developed to improve the government services named Open Government. This concept has three principles, they are policy principle, policy catalyst and policy outcome. Accordance with those terms, the objective of this paper is to provide an analysis of open government policies on public service in Denpasar City. This study is using qualitative method with descriptive approach. The result of this research shows that Denpasar has been achieving the principle of Open Government. The government trying to provide transparency, integrity as well as public participation in accessing public services. The government policies are part of Government of Denpasar’s strong commitment to improve their public service delivery. It’s already stipulated through the mayor’s regulation and mayor’s decree. However, there are several challenges that should be noticed by the City Government of Denpasar. For the massive implementation, they need to provide a legal framework of local regulation and a monitoring and evaluation instrument for public services

Nowadays, regarding increasing number of micro-business in urban areas,  achieving competitive advantage is considered as one of the business concerns. Obtaining competitive advantage entails specific requirements that social capital, physical capital, and human capital - is regarded as one of the most important factors. This study aims to examine the effect of capital to the performance of microbusinesses. The sample of this study was 31 micro-businesses in Wenang subdistrict, Manado, who were selected by simple random sampling.  After distributing the questionnaires, the data analysis was done by SmartPLS 3.0 M3. The result show that social capital and physical capital had no significant effect on the performance of micro-business, while human capital had a positive, and significant effect on the business performance. The implication is the Manado City government has to make the labor of micro-business as the target of empowerment activities that are organized by the government, private sector, bank, NGOs, domestic or foreign. In the long term, it can drive the micro-industry to the small and medium industries.

This study aimed to find out the influence of supply chain integration, information technology and innovation on competitive advantage. The research population comprised freight forwading company in Semarang City. The sample was selected by means of the purposive sampling technique. The sample was 100 companies. The data were collected by a questionnaire, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique in the study was multiple regression analysis using the program of SPSS Version 17 for Windows. The results of the study showed that supply chain integration, information technology and innovation had a significant positive effect on competitive advantage. The coefficient of determination (R2) is 0.71 or 71%, the coefficient shows that 71 % of competitive advantage is affected by supply chain integration, information technology, innovation while the remaining 29% is affected by other independent variables not study.

The present study aimed at assessing line and HR managers’ perceptions on importance, effectiveness of HR service delivery areas, HR roles and HR contribution. The data collected from 642 line managers and 194 HR managers working in different organizations in India, formed the basis for the study. The study found that HR professionals perceived higher importance, effectiveness and contributions of HR than line managers. However, both line and HR professionals recognized the importance of HR and its roles for the firm’s competitive advantage. It was observed that the effectiveness of HR in the most important areas and roles was higher, while in least important areas it was lower. This study further found that HR policies and procedures created by the HR department and their well-integrated coordination were the major contributions of HR. The study also made an attempt to find an association between HR importance, effectiveness, and contribution and nature of business, geographical orientation of the business and organizational size.

The study evaluated the resources and services available in the official government websites of all the cities in Davao Region to determine the extent of its implementation of e-governance. In particular, the assessment was done to verify if the following contents were promoted in their websites: (a) citizen awareness and understanding of their community’s characteristics; (b) efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery; (c) transparency and accountability in operations and services; (d) awareness of policy making process and participation in decision making; (e) linkage and interaction between government and citizens and other groups; and (f) linkage between government and business. Moreover, the compliance of the city websites in posting the reports required by the Full Disclosure Policy (FDP) was also determined.            Results were initially obtained through an assessment done by the researcher using the checklist adapted from the study of Siar (2007). Preliminary findings were triangulated and substantiated from the Focus Group Discussion (FDG) with thirty (30) information technology participants who scrutinized the available contents in each of the website using the same checklist. Frequency counts, means and percentages were utilized from the derived significant discussions.            Findings showed that relatively low results were acquired by the city websites in Davao Region except for Davao and Tagum where most of the contents were promoted in the site. Moreover, the websites of both cities have advanced features and services which were not included in the checklist. As to the FDP compliance, findings revealed that except for Digos, all cities utilized their website to post the reports required under the FDP.            The study concludes that while all cities have utilized their websites for e-governance, the quality of its contents show substandard adoption and underutilization. The study suggests that each city exploit the benefits offered by the websites as a medium in promoting innovative public service delivery.
