In order to isolate the main hepatoprotective component of Echinops grijisii, the crude drug was extracted with methanol and subjected to continuous extractions using n-hexane chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol. The hepatoprotective studies of each fraction from the methanol extract of E. grijisii was conducted in Wistar albino rats with CC14-induced liver damage. Hepatoprotective activity was evaluated in terms of the modification of serum transaminase values such as SGOT and SGPT, and histopathological changes of liver biopsy. The results indicated that the main hepatoprotective component was concentrated in n-butanol and aqueous fractions.

Aim: This study was aimed at evaluating the antidiarrhoeal effect methanol leaf extract of Cassia sieberiana. Methodology: The leaf extract of Cassia sieberiana was obtained by extraction using methanol and subjected to phytochemical screening using standard methods. The anti-diarrhoeal effect of methanol leaf extract of Cassia sieberiana DC was investigated in Wistar Albino rats. Results: The result of phytochemical screening revealed the presence of saponins, tannins, phenols, terpenoids, cardiac glycosides, steroids, flavonoids and anthraquinoes. The methanol extract significantly (P<.05) reduced the number of unformed faeces in castor oil induced diarrhoea in the rats. It also significantly (P<.05) reduced the gastrointestinal transit of activated charcoal as well as enteropooling in the rats used for the experiment was significantly reduced (P<.05) in the groups treated with 500 mg/kg and 750 mg/kg. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this research, the methanol leaf extract of Cassia sieberiana possess anti-diarrheal activity and therefore validates its use in traditional medicine for the treatment of diarrhoea.

Although it has been reported that fluoride ingestion has no influence on various indices of hematopoiesis, some research has been published that excessive fluoride developed anemia and eosinophilia of leukocytes. Isparta is situated on the lake region of Turkey where fluorosis is endemic. Our aim was to explore the hematological effects in rats induced by fluoride. In this study, Wistar-Albino rats were used, divided into two groups as control and fluorized. While the control group was administered commercial water (including 0.07 ppm fluoride), the fluorized group was administered 100 ppm fluoride in commercial drinking water for four months. At the end of four months, hematological indices (Hb, Hct, MCV, MCH, RDW, RBC, WBC, and platelet counts) were measured. In addition, bone marrow samples were investigated. Mean leukocyte counts (WBC) in the control group and fluorized group were 7.07 (2.62-12.25) and 2.76 (3.13-5.24)-/103/mm3, respectively. We observed displastic changes on granulocytes in the bone marrow samples of the fluorized group. Although there were significant statistical changes in WBC, we did not determine red blood cell and platelet changes in the fluorized group.

Objective: In the present study, evaluation of the methanol extract of Spatoglossum asperum, brown marine algae on the analgesic activity using animal model was focussed.Methods: Acetic acid-induced writhing test on Wistar albino rats at a dosage of 10 mg/kg body weight of algal extract have been carried out. It showed significant analgesic activity by reducing the number of acetic acid-induced writhing.Results: The animals at a dosage of 10 mg/kg body weight exhibited, 70.52% of the animals were protected using S. asperum extract, on the other hand, the standard, diclofenac protected 84.21% of the animals. The results are statistically significant at p<0.001, and the investigation revealed dose-dependent significant activity in comparison with standard and control.Conclusion: Hence, it can be concluded that the methanol extracts of the brown alga S. asperum have potent analgesic activity at moderate doses.
