Abstract: Quality of life in patients with borderline personality disorder: The mediating role of life satisfaction. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a mental illness characterized by a pattern of instability in relationships, moods and behavior. Using two groups of women (clinical or diagnosed with BPD, N = 138; and control, with no physical or mental illness, N = 124) this study analyzed the differences between pathological personality traits, measured by the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 and different domains of quality of life (SF-36 and the WHODAS 2.0) as well as the mediating role of life satisfaction in personality traits and quality of life. Differences were found between the groups in pathological personality and quality of life. Moreover, many SF-36 dimensions were partially mediated by life satisfaction in both groups. Therefore, new treatments for BPD may include developing life satisfaction, palliating the effects of this disorder on quality of life, reducing its impact on day-to-day tasks.Resumen: El trastorno de personalidad límite (TPL) se caracteriza por inestabilidad en las relaciones, el humor y la conducta. Se analizaron en dos grupos de mujeres (clínico o con TPL, N = 138; y control, sin enfermedad física o mental, N = 124) las diferencias en rasgos patológicos de personalidad (evaluados con el Personality Inventory for DSM-5) y diferentes dominios de calidad de vida (SF-36 y WHODAS 2.0), así como el papel mediador de la satisfacción vital en las relaciones entre personalidad y calidad de vida. Se encontraron diferencias entre los grupos en personalidad patológica y calidad de vida. Además, varias dimensiones de calidad de vida del SF-36 estaban mediadas parcialmente por la satisfacción vital en ambos grupos. Por tanto, los tratamientos del TPL podrían incluir el desarrollo de satisfacción vital para paliar sus efectos en la calidad de vida de los que lo padecen, reduciendo su impacto en las tareas del día a día.

In the intersection with other dimensions such as ethnic, religious and social, the gender difference leads to dwell on aspects often neglected and to bring out the role of mothers in places of confinement that, together with their children, represent a population at risk for the difficulties inherent in the condition of restriction. The research is interested in understanding a mother-child relationship highly disturbed by some risk factors and the educational actions to be activated in the daily life of penitentiary institutions to support and accompany these women towards autonomy, to offer them possibilities of social inclusion and avoid marginalization that in the future could lead their children to seek radicalized insertion within groups.

Two regression analyses were performed that tested the relationships between the amount of negative sibling interaction and the amount of positive sibling interaction and measures of relationship quality and family form. When measures of husband-wife, mother-child, and father-child relationship quality were controlled, marital status was not significantly related to either measure of sibling interactions. However, when the marital status of the parents (family form) was controlled, both the quality of husband-wife relationship and the quality of mother-child relationship were positively related to positive sibling interaction and negatively related to negative sibling interaction. Regardless of family form, the quality of other relationships in the family were important predictors of sibling interactions.

Choosing an educational system for a disabled child already at the stage of pre-school education is a difficult and stressful experience for parents, which regardless of the final decision, raises many doubts. Certain questions arise: ‘where there is a place in the education system for the child with a disability certificate?’, ‘where the child can develop best?’, but also ‘where the child simply feels happy and does not experience exclusion?’. Many things depend on the level of the child’s disability, on key choices made by parents, and on the quality of cooperation, both in the three-way parent-therapist-child relationship, but also in the two-way parent-child and therapist-child relationships. Parents more and more often make decisions about inclusive education, where a child can develop amongst non-disabled peers. This article focuses primarily on the role of parents and therapists in the process of including a disabled child in the education system, the potential of cooperation, but also the fears, difficulties and expectations accompanying both sides.

- In this review are discussed the main researches about high-risk pregnancy and, particularly, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The results of these researches highlight that pregnant women with GDM are extremely vulnerable, anxious and worried. However there are not many clinical studies about the effect of GDM on the quality of mother-child relationship.

In a study of 41 mothers of asthmatic children ranging from 8 to 13 years of age, perceived parenting stress was greater and the quality of the mother-child relationship more problematic than for a comparison group of mothers with healthy children. These mothers also perceived certain areas of behavioral difficulty in their asthmatic children that were greater than those of children in a comparative sample of mothers. The findings suggested that mothers and their asthmatic children may be at risk for a variety of individual and relational problems.
