In this paper, we proposed a new technique for channel estimation using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing, (OFDM). Channel estimation is an integral part of the OFDM system based on the latest high speed transmission technology. Channel estimation is a vital technique used at the receiver side in order to estimate actual transmitted signal which gets affected by Interference. In OFDM, the known pilot signal is inserted to get a channel estimate and then the channel response is obtained by interpolation algorithms. We propose two algorithms and studied their characteristics qualities in channel estimation by simulation in NS-2. Firstly, the channel estimation scheme named Frequently Constructed Pilot Based Channel Estimation(FCPCE), which fully utilizes the pilot symbols is used to estimate the channel response and then the equalizer technique Maximum Minimizing Null Adaptive filters(MMNF) is used to completely remove the inter-symbol interference (ISI) and noise at the receiver side. Further, analysis and simulations show better performance of the proposed techniques based on 802.11p standard.

A novel channel estimation scheme based on superimposed training is proposed for multiple-input multiple-output multi-band orthogonal frequency division multiplexing ultra-wideband systems. The optimal training symbols are derived with respect to the least-square channel estimate mean square error. Simulation shows that the proposed scheme benefits much higher effective data throughput over the conventional method.

This paper puts forward a suitable channel estimation scheme for multiple input multiple output and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system (MIMO-OFDM) based on discrete wavelet transform. According to the least-squares standard (LS), this plan uses pilot to estimate the unit impulse response of MIMO channel firstly, then does wavelet denoising in changing domain, in order to reduce the frequency spectrum leakage and improve the estimation precision. At the same time, this method does not need to know channel information in advance, and can follow up the changes of channel on time with good error rate performance.

In this paper, an improved channel estimation scheme based on time-domain orthogonal gray complementary training sequence (Golay TS) is proposed to resist subcarrier mutual beat interference in 16-quadrature amplitude modulation multiband orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing ultrawide band over fiber (16QAM MB-OFDM UWBoF) systems. The simulation results showed that the performance of system with the improved Golay TS channel estimation scheme was improved by about 1 dB compared with the traditional Golay TS channel estimation scheme, at a bit error rate (BER) of 3.8 × 10−3 after 70 km standard single mode fiber (SSMF) transmission. At the same time, the synchronization and channel estimation performance of Golay TS and the selected frequency-domain orthogonal training sequences (TSs) were compared. The simulation results showed that the performance of system with the TSs channel estimation was improved by about 2.7 dB compared with the improved Golay TS channel estimation.

This paper derives the channel estimation of a discrete cosine transform- (DCT-) based orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) system over a frequency-selective multipath fading channel. Channel estimation has been proved to improve system throughput and performance by allowing for coherent demodulation. Pilot-aided methods are traditionally used to learn the channel response. Least square (LS) and mean square error estimators (MMSE) are investigated. We also study a compressed sensing (CS) based channel estimation, which takes the sparse property of wireless channel into account. Simulation results have shown that the CS based channel estimation is expected to have better performance than LS. However MMSE can achieve optimal performance because of prior knowledge of the channel statistic.

The rapid growth within the field of digital communication during the recent years expanded the need for high-speed data transmission to support a wide range of services such as: video, data and voice in wireless communication systems, etc. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and a multicarrier modulation scheme are employed to achieve the high data rates. Since OFDM is very much sensitive to carrier frequency offsets, which cause the Inter-carrier Interference (ICI) leads to mitigation of this ICI is necessary. The objectives of this paper are to, proposed an efficient ICI self-cancellation scheme to mitigate the effect of ICI on OFDM systems. For this purpose, a redundant data is transmitted onto adjacent sub-carriers such that the ICI between adjacent sub-carriers cancels out at the receiver side. One data symbol is modulated into a group of adjacent sub carriers with a group of weighting coefficients. At the receiver side, the received signals are linearly combined on these sub carriers with proposed coefficients. The residual ICI contained in the received signals can then be further reduced. This study provides significant carrier-to-interference power ratio (CIR) improvement, which has been studied theoretically and supported by simulations. Since no channel equalization is required to reduce ICI, so the proposed scheme doesnt increase the system complexity.

This paper presents a joint channel estimation and data detection technique for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. Initial estimate of the channel is obtained using semi-blind channel estimation (SBCE). The whitening rotation (WR)-based orthogonal pilot maximum likelihood (OPML) method is used to obtain the channel estimate. The estimate is further enhanced by extracting information through the received data symbols. The performance of the proposed estimator is studied under various channel models. The simulation study shows that this approach gives better performance over training-based channel estimation (TBCE) and OPML SBCE methods but at the cost of higher computational complexity.

Abstract. With the purpose of supplying the demand of faster and more reliable communication, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems in conjunction with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) are subject of extensive research. Successful Decoding requires an accurate channel estimate at the receiver, which is gained either by evaluation of reference symbols which requires designated resources in the transmit signal or decision-directed approaches. The latter offers a convenient way to maximize bandwidth efficiency, but it suffers from error propagation due to the dependency between the decoding of the current data symbol and the calculation of the next channel estimate. In our contribution we consider linear smoothing techniques to mitigate error propagation by the introduction of backward dependencies in the decision-based channel estimation. Designed as a post-processing step, frame repeat requests can be lowered by applying this technique if the data is insensitive to latency. The problem of high memory requirements of FIR smoothing in the context of MIMO-OFDM is addressed with an recursive approach that acquires minimal resources with virtual no performance loss. Channel estimate normalized mean square error and bit error rate (BER) performance evaluations are presented. For reference, a median filtering technique is presented that operates on the MIMO time-frequency grids of channel coefficients to reduce the peak-like outliers produced by wrong decisions due to unsuccessful decoding. Performance in terms of Bit Error Rate is compared to the proposed smoothing techniques.

A low-complexity standard transmit diversity scheme for coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) frameworks is cyclic delay diversity (CDD). As the cyclic delay esteem expands the diversity effect also increases. However, the channel estimation turns out to be more troublesome because of increased frequency selectivity as the increased cyclic delay value. In this paper we discussed about dissimilar channel estimation schemes and to conclude we proposed a novel pilot-aided channel estimation scheme for CDD to estimate the channel in an enhanced way. Our scheme estimates each channel separately and achieves significant performance improvement.
