ABSTRACT Use of the extract of Nim (Azadirachta indica) and propolis in isolated microrganims from dogs (Canis familiares) with otitis: The canine otitis is a important disease in the practical veterinary medicine; in this manner, the knowledge of the agent(s) and its profiles of susceptibility, in the intention of establishing a directed and efficient treatment and preventing the dissemination of multiresistant bacteria). 29 samples with sterile swabs had been collected, proceeding from dogs of race, generus, age that presented clinical signals of otitis, in the Hospital Veterinarian of the UFERSA and in the clinics of the City of Mossoró- RN in the period of August 2009 until June 2010. Isolated and identified, the microorganisms had been made the antibiogramas with conventional antibiotics and the alternative ways (Nim extract and propolis) here evaluated, through the technique of diffusion in Agar for the paper record. Considering the scarcity of referring data to the canine otitis to the treatment proceeding from natural resources in the Northeast region of the Country, this date present the resulted research for alternative ways to the treatment of the otitis with extract of Nim (Azadirachta indica) and propolis.

The environmental problems resulting from solid waste generated in the production process cheese

Abstract: The process of manufacturing and marketing of cheese, whether in big agribusiness or artisanal way in small farms, is an important part in the Brazilian economy, especially for some regions such as the northeast region of Brazil. The objective of this study was to perform a preliminary characterization of cheese production, emphasizing raising its relations with the environment and potential environmental aspects and impacts of the cheese production. For this purpose, it was used as a methodological process a literature of the problematic review of study in order to obtain the largest possible amount of information, and make a correlation with studies that brings alternatives to the use of the main wastewater generated in the production of the cheese making process, which is derived from milk serum. Whey is a high pollution potential by-product, and companies have realized that adding value to this byproduct derived from milk has an economically viable alternative, in addition to reducing the costs of treating effluents. Highlighting thereby the need for awareness of entrepreneurs in this segment as well as the installation and / or suitability of efficient treatment systems for waste and effluents generated at all stages of the process, given the high pollution potential and impacting this activity.

In a recent issue of this journal (Vol.8 no.2) the paper ‘Record linkage theory and practice: an experiment in the application of multiple pass linkage algorithms’ by Charles Harvey, Edmund Green and Penelope J. Corfield described the advances the authors have made on their previously published work. By using a multiple pass methodology they increased the linkage rate between two successive polls (1784 and 1788) from one-fifth to nearly three-fifths of the voters in the parliamentary elections for the City of Westminster. This critique examines the validity of their claims with regard to the confidence levels attained.

Retracing in his novel the labyrinthine journey that leads Oedipus from the place of his abomination (Thebes) to the city of his future glory (Colonus), Henry Bauchau fills the emptiness between Sophocles’s Oedipus the King and Oedipus at Colonus. Bauchau’s hero, a powerful king, loses everything and stabs his eyes out when the cruel truth about his real identity is revealed. Blind, homeless, devoid of meaning of life, Oedipus leaves on a journey to pass away anywhere. However, his way to death turns out to be, thanks to benevolent presence of others and art’s liberating power, the road to personal elucidation. The story of Bauchau’s Oedipus, who finally recognizes himself as a truly human, is based therefore on the passage between absence and presence, between darkness and lucidity, on the union of contradictions which symbolize the complexity of human nature. This paper attempts to analyse different representations of absence in Bauchau’s novel. Afterwards, the article focuses on the ways which facilitate Oedipus’s road leading from depersonalization to rediscovery of his own identity.

The National Board of Waters in Finland has proposed a study on the joint treatment of industrial and municipal wastewaters of the City of Kotka. This study is of great interest due to the large forest products industry and food industry in Kotka. All of the wastewaters from the forest products and the food industry and the municipal sewage have been found to be suitable for biological treatment, which makes the joint treatment applicable. An activated sludge process is selected because it takes advantage of the large amount of nutrients in the municipal sewage and it has proved to be the most efficient treatment method for forest industry wastewaters. However, municipal wastewater contains more nutrients than needed for the biological process, which can cause eutrophication problems in the watercourse. To reduce the pollution caused by the nutrients, chemical treatment of the wastewater is also proposed in the joint treatment. It was concluded that the joint treatment of wastewater is economically, technically and environmentally the best way to arrange wastewater treatment for the industry and the city.

Abstract The text discusses the process of modernization in the city of Porto Alegre during various moments of its history, debating both transformations and modifications in the city’s urban space along with a social segregation that was either going on or being wished for at that time. Many exemples are given so as to demonstrate the desire to build a “united city” in which those who were socially unwished were not allowed. The combination of modernization with social exclusion, so often discussed in many other studies of Brazilian history, is shown in this article as another approach to the issue of modernization with its distinct moments. Viral enteritis occupy a leading place in the infectious pathology of dogs and lead to severe disorders of such systems as the gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and respiratory. The comprehensive diagnosis of this pathology in dogs is not developed enough. The high variability of clinical signs for parvovirus enteritis, the complexity of the appeal with a large number of qualitative indicators, complicate the diagnosis of this disease for a practical veterinarian. The methods of pathomorphological diagnosis are simple, cheap and accessible to any veterinarian doctor. It is precisely from them that the causes of death of the animal begin to be established, with many diseases and pathological conditions, these methods remain decisive when making a diagnosis. The aim of the work was to study and analyze the pathomorphological features in parvovirus enteritis of dogs.Materials and methods of research. The work was carried out at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Zhytomyr National Agroecological University, as well as in the veterinary clinics of the city of Zhytomyr: the private veterinary clinics «Bagira» and «Doctor-Zoo», the educational and scientific-production clinic of veterinary medicine of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the (ZNAEU) in the city state Zhitomir Hospital of Veterinary Medicine and Aybolit Private Veterinary Clinic in the period from 2014 to 2017 in breeding and breeding dogs.Diagnostic studies to confirm parvovirus enteritis were performed using the VetExpert and ELISA and PCR rapid tests on the basis of the private veterinary laboratory of Bald Ltd. (Kyiv). The pathoanatomical section of dogs of all ages who died from parvovirus enteritis was performed by partial evisceration in a generally accepted sequence. The article presents the results of the study of pathoanatomical changes in dogs for parvovirus enteritis, which depended on the form of manifestation of the disease – intestinal, cardiac or mixed. The most pronounced pathological and anatomical changes were found in the gastrointestinal tract (intestinal form), mainly in the small intestine. In the dead animals, a complex of pathoanatomical signs that can be considered characteristic of parvovirus enteritis are found: hemorrhagic enteritis, serous-hemorrhagic inflammation of the mesenteric lymph nodes, signs of hepatitis, acute altered myocarditis, and in the lungs – hemorrhages and foci of atelectasis and enlargement of the spleen.

A B S T R A C T This study aimed to analyze geoenvironmental aspects of the city of Caucaia, located in the state of Ceará, Brazil. The municipality has presented in recent years a high population growth, raising a strong human pressure on natural resources, thus justifying the need to identify the most and least environmentally vulnerable areas to population density, generating elements for territorial planning. Thus, we proceeded to environmental characterization creating maps of environmental systems and environmental vulnerability Caucaia, scale 1:50,000, using, for both, the geosystemic theory and the use of remote sensing products, cartographic data and fieldwork. It was verified that 21% of the territory have high vulnerability to occupation, being 58% and 17%, respectively, the percentages for areas with medium and low vulnerability. It is mentioned that the territorial planning based on geoenvironmental compartmentation emerges as important eyeliner of the organizational conditions and functionality of environments, considering their environmental characteristics and socio-spatial dynamics in the integrated form. Abstract Background: The recent urban challenges due to climate change and urban environment deterioration requires proper planning and inventories of urban forests. In this paper, trees and shrub information were used to estimate leaf area/biomass, carbon storage, carbon sequestration, pollution removal, and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, hydrological and functional values of Adama city urban forest. This study was conducted to assess and quantify the ecosystem services of urban forests of Adama city, Central Ethiopia. Results: The result of i-tree Eco model has indicated that the tree species such as Azadirachta indica, Eucalyptus globulus, Carica papaya and Delonix regia sequester high percentage of carbon which is approximately 14.7%, 7.4%, 7.3% and 6.2% of all annually sequestered carbon respectively. Besides, urban forests of the city was estimated to store 116,000 tons of carbon; the most carbons were stored by the species such as Eucalyptus globulus, Azadirachta indica, Carica papaya and Delonix regia that stores approximately 22.1%, 12.3%, 9.5% and 4.2% of all stored carbon respectively. Trees in Adama urban forests were estimated to produce 19.93 thousand tons of oxygen per year. It was estimated that trees and shrubs remove 188.3 thousand tons of air pollution due to O3, CO, NO2, PM2.5 and SO2 per year. In the city, 35 percent of the urban forest's VOC emissions were from Eucalyptus cinerea and Eucalyptus globulus. Besides, the monetary value of Adama urban forest in terms of carbon storage, carbon sequestration, and pollution removal was estimated to 16,588,470 ETB/yr, 118,283 ETB /yr and 12,162,701,080. 9 ETB /yr respectively. Conclusion: Urban forest of Adama city has significant contribution in terms of enhancing woody species diversity and the regulation of urban environment of the study area. From the management and conservation perspectives, urban forests of the study area needs consolidated interventions in terms of tree planting in bare areas and management works. Hence, reliable commitment should be demanded form the key stakeholders such as government, urban foresters and city dwellers.

Palavras-chave: Segregação Urbana; Produção do Comum; Estética; Política; Pesquisa-Intervenção.AbstractOur cities are keenly characterized by processes of socio-spatial segregation which divide them into estranged territories, each with its own cultural universe. Such estrangements areoften challenging to university extension practices, as wellas to other work and research practices which foster contact between different cultural universes. Based on our experience of‘feeling like a foreigner’ in the Favela da Mangueira during a university extension project associated with the Institute of Psychology of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, we offer a reflection on how urban partitions arise and how we can invent the common in a divided city. We look to make our experiences in the field conversant with the works of authors from different areas, such as phenomenology, political philosophy, history, art and urbanism. Thus, we seek to collaborate with other researchers who direct research-intervention projects, university extension, social movements, NGOs and other types of social organizations working in urban fringe zones. Keywords: Urban Segregation; Production of the Common; Aesthetics; Politics; Research-Intervention.
