Currently, the entire globe is infected with COVID 19, and everyone is doing everything they can do to avoid contracting this serious sickness by adhering to social segregation, wearing coverings, using credit-only exchanges, and refraining from contacting anything to prevent the spread of germs. With the advancement of technology, traditional locks are becoming relics of the past, while new biometric-based locks and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-based locks are becoming increasingly in common. The unique finger impression based locks, as well as participation record-keeping devices, are used in the vast majority of offices and universities, however due to the pandemic, it is no longer appropriate to do so. As a result, the proposed system use a solenoid lock to make the door lock. Aside from the equipment, a mobile application is used to inspect and double-check the finger impression and send the confirmation, as well as an id, to Arduino through Bluetooth. The entry way lock will be bolted and opened using the smartphone fingerprint sensor.

This essay closely reads the Arab Israeli author Sayed Kashua’s Let It Be Morning to construe the complex survival trajectories of the Arab minority in Israel’s plural society. Kashua discusses the relentless struggles of Arab Israelis, caught in-between their social identification with Israeli citizenship and Palestinian nationalism. The novel captures the subjective and collective consequences of Israel’s ethnic democracy on the Arab community and demonstrates the social patterns in which Arab Israelis perceive, experience, and respond to systematic social segregation. This essay, through its interpretation of Arab Israeli experiences, manifested in the novel explores the conflict of contested minority identities through the Saidian discourse of orientalism and Anderson’s imagined communities. The nature of intra-communal rivalry among the minority groups for survival is also of interest to this study as the narrative locates the behavioural changes observed within the Arab community due to the negative environmental circumstances. The study also posits the sociological aspects of reinforcement theories to construe human behaviour in politically challenging environments.

Abstract Background: Preventing or reducing the attacks of acute otitis media (AOM) is a major worldwide healthcare problem in children. It is therefore urgent to evaluate the additional, unintended benefits of social segregation in cutting down the prevalence of AOM in children of various ages, especially during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) periods. Methods: Children aged from 6 months to 12 years who suffer from AOM and attended the outpatient clinic of tertiary hospital in the Eye Ear Nose Throat Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University in Shanghai were investigated from January 2015 to December 2020. The change in daily outpatient attendance for AOM and time-series analyses were estimated following both non-pandemic and COVID-19 period, and age and gender were taken into account. Results: 24543 outpatients (male:13529, female:11014) were enrolled in this clinic population. The epidemic trend of AOM in 2015-2019 was characterized by seasonal fluctuations, with a higher incidence in December and January but relatively lower outpatient records in winter and summer vacations (February, June and August). There was an estimated 63.6% (54.32%-70.36%) reduction in the daily outpatient attendance of AOM associated with the introduction of social segregation in COVID-19 period. When age was taken into account, children aged 4-6 who are in kindergarten were more vulnerable to AOM (66.2%), especially during the school period. Meanwhile, the outpatient attendance of AOM in preschoolers (before the age of three) was mainly in autumn and winter, with no significant relationship with semester change. And age structure of AOM in COVID-19 period broadly in line with that in non-pandemic period. Conclusions: Data from non-pandemic and COVID-19 periods indicated that AOM might spread into susceptible populations by close contact, and social segregation could effectively reduce the likelihood of catching AOM. In tandem with broader consequences, certain interpersonal distance, mask effects and good hand hygiene can significantly reduce the incidence of AOM, which provides a preventive and therapeutic point of view for AOM.

This research seeks to investigate, essentially, the urbanization process in Brazil of the First Republic, especially in the context of the Federal District, and how it decisively influenced the phenomenon of social exclusion and the resulting emergence of favelas and a stigmatized social class. An analysis of the historical context of the determined time frame is necessary, namely, the beginning of the 20th century, emphasizing how urban reforms fostered social imbalance in Rio de Janeiro. To carry out this research, the bibliographic review methodology will be used. This bibliographic review is characterized by being analytical and descriptive. The main objective of this method is to expose, in a summarized way, the main ideas already discussed by the researched authors who dealt with the problem, raising criticisms and doubts, when possible. Among all the alleged innovations and urban adaptations, modernity, the poor population, the class of the dispossessed, marginalization was relegated, concentrated in ghettos, even though this was an unplanned process. The emergence of favelas clearly demonstrates that the project, although positive in certain aspects, initiated social segregation, a phenomenon observable until today.

Abstract We aimed to investigate how lethal police violence (LPV) in the City of São Paulo (CSP), Brazil, is associated with socioeconomic development when we consider the victims’ place of residence and the locations of the fatal injuries. The spatial distribution of lethal police violence rate (LPVR) and its association with the human development index (HDI) was investigated using the Moran’s I (Global and Bivariate Local). Between 2014 and 2015 we found 403 police victims in the Health database and 794 victims in the Security Department. We found a non-random spatial distribution of the LPV considering the victim’s place of residence (I=+0.12; p<0.001) and the locations where the fatal injuries were inflicted (I=+0.07; p<0.001). We found a negative association between LPVR and the HDI of the place of residence (I=-0.10; p<0.001) and a positive association between LPVR and the HDI of the locations of the fatal injuries (I=+0.02; p<0.001). The results point to different dynamics of LPV in CSP. High mortality clusters are found in areas with lower HDI, when considering the victim’s address, and in areas with higher HDI, when considering the address of the violent events. LPV impacts young blacks, poorly educated residents of outskirts informing us about patterns of social segregation.

In international comparison, the share of pupils enrolled in private schools is expanding and the access to private schools is socially unequal. There is a need for the regulation and control of private schools. Focusing on Germany, this contribution discusses how such a regulation might look like without endangering the freedom for the foundation and pedagogical operation of private schools.
