Furthermore, 50% of the graduates of MAT program were supervisors, 8% were school heads, and 42% were classroom teachers. In the MAEd program, 34% were supervisors, 38% were school heads, and 28% were classroom teachers. Employment status is one of the major factors influencing the quality of work. Manpower contributes to building a productive nation. This tracer study was conducted to determine the employment status of the graduates of Guimaras State College-Mosqueda Campus from AY 2006-2012. The instrument used in the study was the standardized one formulated by the Commission on Higher Education in doing tracer studies for the higher education institution. The questionnaires were distributed per municipality based on the addresses of the respondents taken from the School’s Registrar Office. The majority of the graduates were female and single. They came from a family with big household size having an annual family income of less than P50,000.00. Majority of these graduates did not take further studies though they were very satisfied with the knowledge and skills acquired from their course for which they found the program and self-readiness as very effective. Majority of them were employed on a contractual basis with a monthly salary of P5,000.00 to less than P10,000.00. The primary reason for those who were not employed was family responsibility. Very evident in this study is the fact that despite poverty, the Filipino families still value education as means to finding better employment opportunities. Regardless of the dearth of physical facilities that GSCMC provided, still they continue to take higher education with the institution. The result of the study served as basis in pursuing plans and proposed action areas of intervention for GSC programs and services to the community it is serving.   KEYWORDS - Education, employment status, graduates, tracer study, descriptive study, Philippines

This article presents a profile of intimate partner homicides (IPH) committed within London incorporating a gendered comparison of the perpetrators’ relationships. Data was sourced from the original police files for offenses committed in the capital between 1998 and 2009 ( N = 207; 173 male and 34 female perpetrators). In common with other international descriptive studies, the results indicate comparative differences between partners according to perpetrator gender in terms of age profiles, employment status, experience of mental health issues, intoxication at time of killing, and possession of criminal convictions. Gender-based IPH descriptive studies have tended to focus on a collation of either victim or perpetrator or relationship characteristics, often in isolation from one another. Assessments of how parties interact within fatal relationships are invariably absent, and yet, it is the relationship that forms the backdrop against which the fatal acts are perpetrated. This study, therefore, not only provides an insight into the profile of IPH committed within London where none had previously existed but also demonstrates the advantages of incorporating relationship concordance measures. The inclusion of such measures when researching IPH assists homicide investigators in understanding the dynamics taking place within the cohort of fatal relationships they police. It also provides researchers a useful platform to enhance understanding of this crucial aspect, for it is the relationship itself which is what defines IPH and distinguishes as a unique subset of homicide.

AbstractStudent heterogeneity is not limited to performance, but encompasses cultural background, language competence, learning styles, and motivation. Thus, heterogeneity inherently changes the demands placed on teachers and requires them to practice differentiated instruction (DI). However, existing DI frameworks tend to describe single exemplary DI practices and widely lack an empirical view. Thus, these frameworks may provide little help to classroom teachers when it comes to the question of how or by which instructional arrangements they can address student heterogeneity in their everyday classroom teaching. In an attempt to bridge the gap between educational theory and everyday instructional practice, this theoretical paper focusing on differentiation within secondary school education proposes a comprehensive taxonomy of the DI practices known in the literature and practice. Outlines for future research on DI are discussed.

This paper seeks to investigate whether the Indonesian government's attempt to promote a gender-equal society in recent decades and improve gender awareness are reflected in patterns of gender representation in EFL textbooks in secondary schools. The study made an analysis of four compulsory textbooks published in 2016 with corpus linguistic tools (e.g. pronouns, occupation, amount of talk) and how gender is represented in the visuals (or illustrations) through conducting frequency counts of the occurrence of male and female characters and the spheres of activities they engaged, to investigate the ration of female-to-male appearances, the extent of use of gender-neutral, and gender-marked constructions, common address titles for reference, and order of appearance of women and men. The findings show that there is a need for evaluation of the existing language textbooks in secondary schools, with the aim of promoting a more gender-balanced learning material. Moreover, the classroom teachers raise the need for the promotion of initial as well as in-service training for teachers on issues of ‘gender stereotypes’, ‘language sexism’ and ‘gender-mainstreaming policies’.

Classroom teachers wish to improve their craft and educational researchers want to generate useful knowledge, yet educational research seldom influences classroom teaching. Reflecting on twenty years' experience as a junior high school teacher and as a university professor involved in formal studies of classroom teaching, Arthur S.Bolster,Jr. examines the genesis and perpetuation of the divergent perspectives of teachers and educational researchers concerning how knowledge is formulated and determined. He advocates a sociolinguistic ethnographic approach as the research methodology most likely to generate knowledge that is both intellectually rigorous and helpful in teacher development.
