This research aimed at analyzing the types of maxims of the cooperative principle that were used in the novel entitled The Fault in Our Stars. The data source of data was a novel entitled The Fault in Our Stars that fulfilled cooperative principle based on four maxims of cooperative principles: Maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relation, and maxim of manner. Theory that the researcher used in this research was theory of Grice. In this research, a descriptive qualitative method was applied to answer the research questions. The observational method and non-participatory technique were applied by the researcher in collecting the data. In analyzing the data the researcher used pragmatic identity method based on the theory of Sudaryanto. The results showed that the level of cooperative principle was mostly used in the novel. The researcher found 30 data related to cooperative principle. The maxims of quantity have 15 data, 3 for maxim of quality, 10 for maxim of relation and maxim of manner has only 2 data.

This study aims at identifying the types of maxims flouted by the main characters of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and describing the context behind those floutings. The data were taken from the fourth season of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, an American police procedural comedy TV show. Documentation method was used to collect the data. Descriptive qualitative method was used to analyze the data by applying Grice’s Cooperative Principle (1975) and Cutting’s Theory of Context (2002). Based on the analysis, all types of conversational maxims were flouted, namely maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relation, and maxim of manner. Another finding in this research is that the context behind the floutings were needed to understand the meaning of the utterances. Keywords:  Context, Maxim Flouting, Pragmatics

This research aim to analyze the maxim flouting that were flouted by the characters in the Coco movie script based on Grice’s cooperative principle. This research used descriptive qualitative method to support in analyzing the data. The data sources of this research were the coco movie and its script. The data were accumulated by downloading the Coco movie and script, watching the movie, and collecting the data from the script. The data analysis was conducted by organizing the data into narration, analyzing the data, and make the conclusion. The result of this research showed what types of maxim were flouted in the movie. The results of this research show that the maxim flouted 11 times in the whole dialogue of the movie. The maxim quantity flouted 5 times or 45%. The maxim of relation flouted 3 times or 27%. The maxim of quality flouted 1 times or 10%. The maxim of manner flouted 2 times or 18%. This research had aimed to analyze cooperative principle by observing the characters’ utterances in About Time movie. A descriptive qualitative method was used in analyzing the data because it would be explained by words, phrases, and sentences. The data would be based on the characters’ utterances in About Time movie. In collecting the data, the researcher used the observational method and non-participatory, note-taking techniques. Pragmatic identity method was applied in analyzing the data. The result findings showed that all four maxims in cooperative principle were found through the utterances in About Time movie. The researcher found 37 data of maxims. The result indicated that there were 14 (38%) data maxim of quantity, 14 (38%) data maxim of relation, 7 (19%) data maxim of quality and 2 (5%) data maxim of manner. In summary, the most frequently data were found in the maxim of quantity and maxim of relation. The least data were found in maxim of manner. This research was made based on the number of people making mistakes in communicating in the social environment. Some errors in communication often result in ambiguity, due to the delivery of unclear information. Related to the topic the researcher made the research that analyze the flouting maxims in Wonder Woman movie and find the reason why the characters flouted the maxims by using the theory of Grice (1975).  This research used qualitative descriptive method by Sudaryanto (2015) to analyze data. The results of the research showed that there were 12 data which were flouting maxims namely 1 data flouting maxim of quality, 2 data flouting maxim quantity, 2 data flouting maxim manner and 7 data were flouting maxim relations. The conclusion based on the results of this research is that all the characters in Wonder Woman movie was flouted all of the maxims, it can be seen from the result of analyzed the data, especially in the main character. The objectives of this research are to analyze the type of violation and flouting the maxim of teacher-student interaction in the English teaching and learning process in MA Hasyim Asy’ari Bangsri and also find the most frequently produced between violation and flouting of the maxim. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The data was obtained from the conversation between the teacher and students during the teaching and learning process and analyzed by categorizing utterances based on the violation and flouting maxim theory of the Cooperative Principle. The data were collected through the observation then analyzed by using the technique which is suggested by Miles and Huberman that consists of data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion or data verification. The result of the research showed that there are four types of maxims that are violated by the teacher and students. These are the maxim of quantity 11 (50%), the maxim of quality 5 (22.73%), the maxim of relation 1 (4.54%), and the maxim of manner 5 (22.73%). The dominant violation was the maxim of quantity with 11 occurrences. Based on the findings, there are three types of flouting maxims in which the most of flouting maxim that is occurred was the maxim of relation. They are divided into 1 (14.29%) maxim of quantity, 2 (28.57%) maxim of quality, and 4 (57.14%) maxims of relation. In conclusion, the most produced between the violation and flouting was the violation of maxim with 22 (75.86%) of total occurrences. Meanwhile, the proportion of flouting maxim was 7 (24.14%).

Abstrak: Penelitian Analisis Penggunaan Kohesi Referensi pada Naskah Drama Siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan merupakan penelitian deskriptif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan penggunaan kohesi referensi pada naskah drama siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Populasi data dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan. Objek siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan yang dipilih adalah siswa jurusan IPA dan IPS kelas XI. Teknik penentuan subjek didasarkan pada pengambilan sampel yang dilakukan secara random sampling. Adapun objek penelitian ini adalah penggunaan peranti kohesi referensi dalam naskah drama siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan. Data diperoleh dengan metode membaca dan teknik mencatat. Metode analisisnya menggunakan metode analisi deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini dapat dideskripsikan penggunaan peranti kohesi referensi pada naskah drama siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan, yaitu (1) kohesi referensi pronomina persona adalah pronomina yang dipakai untuk mengacu pada orang. Pronomina persona terdiri atas persona orang pertama tunggal dan jamak, pronomina orang kedu tunggal dan jamak, dan pronomina orang ketiga tunggal dan jamak; (2) kohesi pronomina demonstratif adalah pronomina penunjuk umum, pronomina penunjuk tempat, dan pronomina penunjuk hal ikhwal; (3) kohesi referensi komparatif adalah kohesi referensi yang menyatakan perbandingan unsur yang satu dibandingkan dengan unsur yang lain. Kohesi referensi komparatif terdiri atas kohesi referensi komparatif yang menyatakan kurang, kohesi referensi komparatif yang menyatakan sama, dan kohesi referensi komparatif yang menyatakan lebih.Kata kunci: Kohesi, referensi, naskah drama Abstract: This study Analisis Penggunaan Kohesi Referensi pada Naskah Drama Siswa SMAN 2 Kandangan is descriptive study. The aim of this study is to describe the using of reference cohesion in drama script by SMAN 2 Kandangan student. This is descriptive qualitative study. The data population is the student of SMAN 2 Kandangan. The object of this study is SMAN 2 Kandangan from Science and Social class of second grade. Subject determination technique is based on random sampling.The data are gained through reading and writing. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The object of this study is the using of reference cohesion instrument in drama script of SMAN 2 Kandangan’ students. The result shows that the using of reference cohesion instrument in drama script by the student of SMAN 2 Kandangan are (1) pronomen reference cohesion is pronomen refers to a person. Person pronomen consist of singular and plural of first person. Pronomen singular and plural of second person, and pronomen singular and plural of third person; (2) demonstrative pronomen cohesion is general instruction pronomen, place instruction pronomen, cause instruction pronomen, occurances instruction pronomen; (3) comparative reference cohesion is reference cohesion that stating comparation of one component to the other one. Comparative reference cohesion consists of comparative reference cohesion that stating inefficient, comparative reference cohesion that stating equality, and comparative reference cohesion that stating more.Key words: cohesion, reference, drama script

The purpose of the analysis is to find out the attitude of trust showed by King David in Holy Bible in the book of Psalm. This analysis reveals the attitude of trust that is stated by words in poetry in the book of Psalm. Descriptive Qualitative method is used to analyze primary and secondary data from the book of Psalm and also from the articles or books that support the data by using some steps or procedures that is : to organize and prepare all the data needed, read the data which is the book of Psalm and other references then analyze data by identifying the sentences that represent the statement of having a trust of King David to God. The meaning of this learning both theory and practice is expected to give contribution to the readers about what and how trust is and how they apply it well and correctly. As a lecturer in a business class, it might be interesting to dig deep to advertisement slogan embedded with sexual content like Condoms advertisement. This advertisement uses implicit language in the way they promote the product because it mostly leads to free sex. Therefore, the phenomenon of advertisers creatively uses the implicit slogans to attract their customers about their product might be interesting to discuss. This study aims to investigate the use of conversational implicature and the violation of cooperative principle or maxims occurred in condoms advertisement slogan and investigate the perception of business class students toward the analysis of this advertisement slogan to learn. It was descriptive qualitative research with 15 condoms advertisement slogans to be analyzed and 15 business class students to be interviewed. The result came with 100% particularized implicature used, 100% of violating of maxim of quantity, 100% of violating of maxim manner, 73 % of violating maxim of quality, and no violation in maxim of relevance. In conclusion, advertisers are using particularized implicature and violation of some cooperative principles or maxims to avoid informative messages in promoting their product (condom) which is banned in their advertisement rule. However, the advertisers keep making the slogans relevant to the products, so that some particular people can easily understand the message conveyed by the slogans. Moreover, the business class students agreed that this analysis should be important to learn because they will work as an entrepreneur who thinks about utterances in creating slogans for advertisement, especially sexual content. Further research should analyze more slogans in sexual content and use more techniques of analysis.
