Language is used in communication as a way to express their thoughts and feelings. Communication is how people use the message to give meaning to other people. Good communication happens when the speakers and the listeners can deliver their intended message clearly to understand each other. In communication, there is a theory called the cooperative principle. The cooperative principle is elaborated in four sub-principles or maxims. These maxims will make sure the information about the topic that is being discussed in the conversation clearer. However, some people sometimes communicate without following these maxims or violate maxims, knows as hedging maxim. This research aims to reveal the types of hedging maxims used by the characters in Bunker of the Dead movie. Grice’s cooperative principle is to analyze the research. Descriptive qualitative is employed as the research method, and a movie transcript as the research data. The result of this research shows that there are three types of hedging maxims, namely hedging maxim of quality, hedging maxim of relevance and hedging maxim of manner. One of the maxims, namely hedging maxim of quantity, does not exist in the movie. The most used hedging maxim is the hedging maxim of quality.

There are four maxims in order to achieve connection during conversation, i.e. the maxims of quality, quantity, relation, and manner. However, people do not always follow and obey the Cooperative principle and instead flout maxim. The aim of this research was to discuss about the types of maxim which were flouted in the movie White House Down written by James Vand Erbilt. As a result, the researcher found 15 samples of flouted maxim, maxim of quantity 4 data, maxim of quality 2 data, maxim of manner 5 data, and 4 data maxim of relation.

However, some people do not fulfill those maxims to be used in the conversation for certain reasons, and when they violate the maxims it is called flouting maxims. A descriptive qualitative approach is used for this study because the data are in the form of words rather than of numbers and statistics. This study reveals that based on theory of Grice’s Cooperative, there are four maxims which are flouted by the main characters of  “Home Alone Part 2 ‘Lost in New York’” movie this movie since 1992 directed and written by John Hughes. And there are several reasons of flouting those maxims are data finding also revealed that the communication could still even though the main characters flouting the maxims. Four reasons by the main characters to flout the maxims are competitive, collaborative, convivial, and conflictive reason. In terms of types, quantity maxim flouting is in the highest rank and relevance maxim flouting is in the lowest rank. In terms of strategies, overstatement is the most frequently used and metaphor is the most rarely used. Finally, dealing with reasons for maxim flouting, conflictive reason has the highest rank in its occurrence.Communication is a human activity everyday, people always communicate each other.
