The paper describes the behaviour of a heating system with radiators in a cult building. There has commonly used in many churches with many shortcomings. The temperature distribution in the analysed space is simulated in 2D. The simulation is based on an example, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Jassy. The heating system with radiators simulated with the FLUENT program, the results being edifying for the factual state of the building. An important aspect is the impact of these heating systems on the works of art, the church being the 18th — century edifice. Current environmental issues lead to the continuous development of technologies used to reduce primary energy consumption. Churches are an invaluable wealth, sheltering heritage elements preserved in museums and historic buildings. Unheated churches have been used for centuries. Then, after installing one or more different heating systems, signs of rapid degradation appeared.

Background: The aim of our study was to identify an optimal heating system for the analyzed church. We also evaluated the energy consumption of the existing system and of those proposed in order to choose the best heating system. Methods: We analyzed the current existing heating system, a mixed system (static heaters and hot air heating) in a Romanian heritage church, build in the 16th century, and we compared it with an underfloor heating system that has been mentioned in the literature as an alternative for church heating. We used a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of the indoor climate with two turbulence models (k-ε and k-ω). Results: Comparing the two heating systems through boxplot graphs, we could highlight pertinent conclusions regarding the temperatures and velocities of the measured air currents. Thus, of all the heating systems, the underfloor heating had the lowest temperatures, but the highest air velocities, in the churchgoers area, especially under the towers zone. Conclusions: We observed that the underfloor heating system was more efficient than the existing heating system (static heaters and hot air heating), ensuring heritage conservation and high thermal comfort to the churchgoers.

Abstract This paper evaluates a static heating system from a church. They are presented in almost every church. Temperature distribution in the church is done in 2d plane. The simulation is presented on a particular example, the Dormition of the Mother of God Church from Jassy, Romania. The heating system had been simulated in FLUENT and the consequences over the interior climate in the church are showed. An important issue is the impact of this system over the artwork, the church being rise in XVIII century.

n 2017 the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation was celebrated. Then there was a huge discussion about the impact of the Reformation on church, culture and society. In this article and in a second one that follows, this question will be raised, especially in Icelandic context.Here it is assumed that it is only possible to state that a change has occurred or a novelty has arised because of Lutheran influence if it can be demonstrated that the Reformation is a necessary prerequisite for the change / innovation being discussed. Here it is particularly pointed out that various changes that until now have been traced to the Reformation can have been due to the development of the central-con-trolled state power. It is also pointed out that, due to the small population, rural areas and simple social structure, various changes that occurred in urban areas did not succeed in Iceland until long after the Reformation. Such cases are interpret-ed as delayed Lutheran effects. Then, in Iceland, many changes, which were well matched to the core areas of the Reformation, did not work until the 18th century and then because of the pietism. Such cases are interpreted as derivative Lutheran effects.In Iceland two generalizations have been evident in the debate on the influence of the Lutheran Reformation. The first one emphasizes an extensive and radical changes in many areas in the Reformation period and subsequent extensive decline. It is also stated that this regression can be traced directly to the Reformation and not to other fenomenons, e.g. the development of modern, centralized state. The other one states that the Reformation was most powerful in the modernization in both the church and society in Iceland.This article focuses on the influence of the Reformation on religious and church life. Despite the fact that the Reformation has certainly had the broadest and most direct effects on this field, it is noteworthy that the church organization itself was only scarsely affected by the Reformation. After the Reformation the Icelandic church was for example almost as clergy-orientaded as in the middle Ages.

The parish churches in Igołomia and Wawrzeńczyce were founded in the Middle Ages. Their current appearance is the result of centuries of change. Wawrzeńczyce was an ecclesial property – first of Wrocław Premonstratens, and then, until the end of the 18th century, of Kraków bishops. The Church of St. Mary Magdalene was funded by the Bishop Iwo Odrowąż. In 1393 it was visited by the royal couple Jadwiga of Poland and Władysław Jagiełło. In the 17th century the temple suffered from the Swedish Invasion, and then a fire. The church was also damaged during World War I in 1914. The current furnishing of the church was created to a large extent after World War II. Igołomia was once partly owned by the Benedictines of Tyniec, and partly belonged to the Collegiate Church of St. Florian in Kleparz in Kraków. The first mention of the parish church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary comes from the first quarter of the fourteenth century. In 1384, a brick church was erected in place of a wooden one. The history of the Igołomia church is known only from the second half of the 18th century, as it was renovated and enlarged in 1869. The destruction after World War I initiated interior renovation work, continuing until the 1920s.

Nowadays, both globally and in Europe, and nationally, there is a tendency to promote district heating systems to the detriment of individual ones to heat dwellings in urban areas. The need to develop the DHSs is indisputable considering the topicality of global warming, the depletion of the primary energy resources and the energy efficiency trend. This article presents the method of applying regression analysis in feasibility studies for the projects of new heat consumers connection to the district heating system (hereinafter – DHS) or previously disconnected consumers reconnection via individual heating points (hereinafter – IHP) when the necessary investments are to be borne by the DHS operator, and the thermal energy is produced in cogeneration. At the same time, it is demonstrated that there is a direct and linear correlation between fuel consumption and electricity and heat produced in cogeneration at CHP plant.

Abstract This paper is focused on a study between different heating systems commonly used in industrial installations. Industrial heating systems generally raise difficult problems in choosing the most economical system. If several solutions technically meet the requirements of the indoor climate, in terms of energy efficiency we must focus on the optimal solution. The study was conducted to choose the optimal heating solution for an industrial hall, from the point of view of evaluating the efficiency of the installation of an exhaust gas recirculation equipment. The heating of industrial premises generally raises difficult problems due to the diversity of the types of buildings encountered, the variety of activities carried out and the need to choose the most economical system, both in terms of investment and operation. The radiation heating system using natural gas offers the solution of this problem, in situations where the classic heating systems (hot air heating or static bodies) cannot ensure optimal indoor conditions (in the sense that they do not achieve a relatively uniform temperature in the heated space, cause drafts and have low yields). For spaces with a high height (over 4m) these systems can only be considered satisfactory in the case of general heating with very high energy consumption. From the study performed, but also from the specialized technical literature, it is concluded that these systems offer an energy saving, compared to the classical systems.

The article presents a high altar painting of “Our Lady with the Child” in the Krekenava Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Our Lady of Krekenava; pine, canvas, oil; size: 172 × 111 cm). Parsons of Krekenava Church were Samogitian archdeacons. The picture was donated by Nicolao Povetrius (Mikalojus Povetrijus), a parson of the church in 1622–1634. It was announced that he brought the picture from Rome. However, the fabrics and artistic features of the painting show that it was created by a Lithuanian painter instead. Iconographic analysis suggests that the painting was painted on the basis of three old prototypes related to St. Luke authorship. These are icons from two very famous churches of Rome (S. Maria Maggiore (Salus Populi Romani) from the Basilica of the same title and S. Maria del Popolo from the church of the same title) and one from Poland and Lithuania, which is highly respected (Our Lady of Częstochowa from Jasna Góra Pauline Monastery Basilica). It was noticed that from the end of the 16th century, the copies of S. Maria Maggiore icon were created on the basis of the original image, e.g. a Jesuitic copy of 1569, which transferred the original painting into the image of the modern times (at present, in S. Andrea al Quirinale monastery). Such copies very quickly spread in Lithuania, where representations of Our Lady of Częstochowa became more and more popular. The derivations of the icon of S. Maria del Popolo were also created. This is testified by the altar painting of the Zarasai Parish Church (until 1610). The combination of several important aspects of origin (St. Luke authorship), cult and iconography of miraculous images of Our Lady in one painting are considered to be an aspiration to create the most suitable ideal image of Our Lady. Applying this method by combining the iconography of S. Maria Maggiore and Our Lady of Częstochowa, a high altar painting of Our Lady of Tytuvėnai Church was created at the same period and benefited by Vilnius Bishop Eustachy Wołłowicz (Eustachijus Valavičius). Krekenava and Tytuvėnai paintings are among the earliest images of the miraculous derivations of Our Lady in Lithuania. The iconography taken from prototypes was supplemented by crowns. The derivation of venerable archaic images of Our Lady was a process of re-evaluation and innovative expose, which took place in the post-Tridentine Church. The process was launched in Rome, and customers of the Krekenava image and other mentioned paintings of Our Lady in Lithuania were high or higher Catholic priests who studied or visited Rome and other Italian cities for other purposes. It is likely that they visited famous paintings and brought their copies. The paintings of Krekenava and Tytuvėnai because of oil painting technique and style are examples of the New Times painting, which was called “Latin” in Lithuania. They have archaic features taken from the prototypes. However, the origin of prototypes dissociates them from the Eastern Orthodox tradition of sacral paintings of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, to which they are often wrongly attributed. Only wood panels and selection of symbolic gold plating background (golden colour in the Krekenava image) testifies to the impact of the latter tradition.

The main goal of this investigation was to increase the solar fraction and reduce the demand for non-renewable primary energy in a building heating system. Thermal performance of the prototype evacuated tube solar collector/storage integrated with a PCM (ETC/PCM) was analyzed. Technical grade paraffin with onset melting point of 51.24°C was used as a PCM. It has been shown that the highest solar energy fraction in the building heating system was obtained with a thermal load of 40 W·m-2 and the highest the surface area of ETC/PCM aperture in relation to the heating surface area value of 0.2. Lowering the heating system parameters from 45/35°C to 35/25°C allowed for an increase in heat output from solar energy in the range from 2.71% to 5.44%. The largest increase in the solar fraction was in the range of the ratio of the surface area of the solar collector ETC/PCM aperture to the area of the heated building from 0.03 to 0.07. In summary, obtained results indicated that the proposed solution allowed reduction of non-renewable primary energy demand in conceptual heating system from 6% to 27% depending on the heat load of the building and the aperture area of the ETC/PCM.

The design of the suspended nonlinear heating system of modular-trigger and platform furnaces for firing vermiculite and other bulk materials is considered. Previously, the design of linear heating systems did not provide homogeneous heating of thermographed materials, the material in the clutch zones suffered sufficient thermal energy. In addition, overheating of the central zone increased the frequency of the impact of the heaters themselves, which affected the reliability of the furnace. The use of a nonlinear heating system has changed this distribution to the opposite. The power of the intuboxic heater exceeded the power of the central 1,2‒1,36 times depending on the ratio of the diameters of thin and thick (diameter of 4 mm) of the heaters. At the same time, not only their electrical power increased, but the heat radiation streams, falling onto the surface of the supply, which led to an increase in the temperature of the material being processed. The obtained values of the temperature of the vermiculite grains in the fitted zones of the firing module exceed the temperature of the vermiculite in the central zone by 26 %, while it is sufficient for high-quality material intimidation. Due to the use of nonlinear heating system, temperatures were redistributed on heated surfaces in favor of relatively cold previously intuition zones: the heat picture has changed to the opposite, that is, the cold cloth zones have become relatively hot. The paper presents energy saving opportunities in by analyzing two types of auxiliary heating systems. Objects of study were two heaters differing in power requirements and fuel consumption (used for water heating system). The heaters were installed in city buses of the same layout and identical convector heaters fitted for optimum temperature of the vehicle interior and the engine. Through the use of a portable device SEMTECH DS (PEMS) the exhaust emissions of CO, HC, NOx, CO2 were measured. The testing of the heaters for emissions and the testing of the temperature distribution inside the vehicle were performed in stationary conditions, determining the impact of the heating on the energy consumption of the heaters and temperature comfort inside the vehicle. The measurements were performed for each vehicle at the same ambient temperature, which was about 10°C [2, 3, 5]. So that the temperature increase inside the vehicle could be compared the tested vehicles were conditioned before the measurement. The obtained temperature distributions were determined along with a relative increase in the temperature in the vehicle interiors heated by the tested objects. The temperature measurement was performed with the use of six thermocouples utilizing a signal converter - IOTECH PERSONAL DAQ 3000.
