The theory of employee engagement is part of human resources management nowadays as it is a key to the success of companies around the world. Innovative institutions seek to understand the employees to increase their engagement, job satisfaction, and productivity that lead to more profitability for company. This study is about the critical investigation on the impact of employee’s engagement to employee’s productivity in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI)-Oman. This study has applied the descriptive research design using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Managers and employees in the Ministry were interviewed to understand in depth the impression of employees about their engagement in the Ministry. The results revealed that most of the employees are not engaged at MOCI. The recommendation aimed at providing an effective employee engagement framework for the ministry’s culture that suits the nature of the employees. This study can be used as well by other government sectors that follow the same approach as the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOCI) to increase the overall level of employee engagement.

Nepotism and cronyism are forms of favoritism towards certain people in the workplace. For this reason, they constitute a problem for organization managers, ethicists and psychologists. Identifying the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the increase of nepotism and cronyism may provide a basis for organizations to assess their extent and to take possible measures to prevent their negative effects. At the same time, the research presented in the article may provide a basis for further research work related to nepotism and cronyism at the times of other threats, different from the pandemic. The aim of the article is to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on growing acceptance for nepotism and cronyism in Polish enterprises. Qualitative and quantitative methods have been included in the conducted research. Qualitative study aimed at improving knowledge of nepotism and cronyism and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on these phenomena, followed by a quantitative study conducted in order to verify the information obtained in the qualitative study. This research has demonstrated that Nepotism and cronyism in the workplace, are phenomenon that are basically evaluated negatively. They adversely influences social and economic development, but the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on nepotism and cronyism is not significant.

Governments around the world enforced many restrictions according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and tried very hard to minimize spread of epidemic in their countries. One of these restrictions is on using of public spaces that led to create new challenges to think about how we design public spaces and the way of using the most dynamic nearby spaces around us such as streets. The main objectives of this research are to measure the impact of COVID-19 on behavior of local community in public street. And to what extend changed of social behavior in public streets to compensation the absence of public spaces, where they became a breathing space for locals in Amman, Jordan. Also to addresses these questions which are focused on how the local community deals physically with the COVID-19 situation? And what are the changes that are done in their behavior to entertain themselves during the COVID-19 pandemic? Researchers carried out an analysis by using a mixed used approach; qualitative and quantitative methods through executing a questionnaire and a field observation of the study area which is selected. In conclusion, the results of the study showed that activities of local residents have changed between in the lockdown of COVID-19 pandemic and beyond whereas there has been more demand on active lifestyles which is continue after COVID-19 pandemic as new behavior of local residents. although the physical quality of the street are not design to meet new behavior.

Medicinal plants have long been used by traditional communities, one of them is the Malay people in Lingga Regency, Riau Islands Province in healing various diseases. This study aims to determine the types of medicinal plants based on local knowledge of the indigenous Malay people. The population of this research is the native Malay people of Lingga Regency and the sampling is done using the snowball sampling method so that the selected respondents are following the required data. This type of research is descriptive research with qualitative and quantitative methods. The qualitative method was used to find out the use of medicinal plants used by the community by interview while the quantitative method was used to find out the percent of the use of medicinal plants by the Malays from the interviews. Based on the results of the study there were 102 types of medicinal plants in 53 families. The most commonly used plant parts are leaves (45.10%) by boiling and the least used are seeds and bark (1.96%). The most used habitats were herbs (27.45%) and trees (26.47%) and the least used were liana (8.82%) and terna (3.92%). Diseases that are usually treated by people with plants are diseases that are commonly suffered by ordinary people such as fever, diarrhea, coughing, toothaches, itching and mouth sores.

This study aims to determine the marketing margins of demersal fish in Laotongan Village. Laotongan Village, or another name for Tehang Island, is one of the islands in District of Tabukan Selatan, Regency of Sangihe Archipelago. The method used is qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative methods are methods that look at phenomena from non-material aspects, beyond what they appear to be, with the study of meaning as something holistic. Meanwhile, the quantitative method is a method that looks at the phenomenon from the material aspect, which is visible, the impact study, the factors that affect it as a variable. In general, fisher who catch fish in Laotongan Village use hand line, in the local language it is called Kakintu. Also, the type boat used is pumpboat. The fisher in Laotongan Village are fisher with low income, and most of the fisher have an elementary education level. Marketing margin of Demersal fish is Rp. 15,000., And the efficiency of the portion received by fisher, F = 57%, F> 50%, where the sales of demersal fish are efficient. However, fisher's welfare has not improved. One of the factors is the extravagant fisher's lifestyle. The government can pay attention to the welfare of fisher.

This study aimed to explore the challenges of federalism in Somalia. The perspectives and opportunities. After two years of comparative analysis in Kenya, Somalia picked interest in federalism as a way forward for developing the country in 2004 with the aid of international community. The establishment of Somali federalism began in 2012, with President Hassan Sheikh and his Ministry of the Interior had successfully established four Regional states, namely: Galmudug, Hirshabeelle, South West and Jubba land, while Puntland and Somali land had already been established and administered their own affairs. Unlike other federal system in the world, Somalia has adopted a federal system in order to meet the needs of the clans. <div>The study used both qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate the research questions, so the findings of the study revealed that the majority of respondents had a negative attitude towards the opportunities of federalism in Somalia, while they had a positive attitude towards the challenges. The study found that, challenges faced by federalism in Somalia were higher than the opportunities afforded by federalism.<div><br></div></div>

Employee engagement is crucial in the delivery of public service efficiently and effectively. Employee engagement is essential as a foundation for service climate (Salanova et al., 2005). Measuring employee engagement is vital to identify the areas to be improved to increase the service quality. The most accepted Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) is heavily applied to measure the employee engagement of Business to Customer (B2C) profit oriented organizations. Therefore, a customized measure for employee engagement is essential for public service. This paper describes the development of a customized scale based on UWES scale for assessing employee engagement in public service with reference to Divisional Secretariats in Sri Lanka. In developing and validating measures, qualitative and quantitative methods were utilized as recommended by Hinkin's (1998). Finally, a customized scale with 16-items was developed under vigor, dedication and absorption dimensions to measure the employee engagement of public service in Sri Lanka.

The pardon is an act of mercy, tied to the divine right of kings. Why did New York retain this mode of discretionary justice after the Revolution? And how did the advent of the penitentiary and the introduction of parole transform governors’ use of their prerogative? This book answers these questions by mining previously unexplored evidence held in official pardon registers, clemency case files, reports of prisoner aid associations, and parole hearing records. This is the first work of history to analyze mercy and parole through the same lens, as related but distinct forms of discretionary decision making. It draws on governors’ public papers and private correspondence to probe their approach to clemency, and it uses qualitative and quantitative methods to profile petitions for mercy, highlighting controversial cases that stirred public debate. Political pressure to render the use of discretion more certain and less personal grew stronger over the nineteenth century, peaking during state constitutional conventions, and it reached its height in the Progressive Era. Yet, New York’s legislators left the power to pardon in the governor’s hands, where it remains today. Unlike previous works that describe parole as the successor to the pardon, this book argues that reliance upon and faith in discretion has proven remarkably resilient, even in the state that led the world toward penal modernity.

Abstract Organisational justice is a key component in the practice of human resources management in any work environment. The aim of this research survey is to highlight the meaning and importance of organisational justice and its impact on employee engagement. To achieve this aim, except for the literature review, the survey examines the extent to which the distributive, procedural and interactional justice impact on work and organisational engagement, through a research in a certain Greek public organisation. As regards the statistical analysis of the research hypotheses, we used methods of the SPSS 17.00 statistical package. The results showed that the distributive justice significantly impacts on both types of engagement, while no effect was detected between procedural justice and the two types of engagement. The interactional justice was found to determine, partly, only the organisational engagement. The findings overwhelmingly verified the existing bibliographical references, resulting in a noteworthy empirical precedent which could contribute to the field concerning the impact that organisational justice exerts on certain aspects of organisational behaviour.

This research aimed to determine the local wisdom of the community of Lembah Seulawah Sub-district, Aceh Besar, Indonesia of controlling insect pests in vegetable plants. In addition, the study intended to examine the impact of using paper as a mechanical trap for insect pests in vegetable plants. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used in this research. The qualitative data were obtained through interviews with farmers, whereas the quantitative data were collected from an experiment. Thirty randomly-selected respondents were interviewed and then the qualitative and quantitative data processing was performed. The results showed that they still use plant-based materials as insecticides which constitute the local wisdom of controlling insect pests in vegetable plants. The plants used as insecticides were, among others, garlic (Allium satifum), castor bean seeds (Ricinus communis), lemongrass, neem seeds, and thorny amaranth as the trap plants.
