Purpose: The aim of the study was to identify the strategies required in improving industrial training programs between local businesses and Technical colleges in Enugu State in Nigeria. Approach/Methodology/Design: Three Research questions and hypotheses guided the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study was 125 students from Government Technical College Enugu and Government Technical College in Nsukka, 23 owners of local businesses in Enugu state, 35 teachers from Government Technical College Enugu and Government Technical College in Nsukka and 10 co-coordinators from the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Enugu State. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The reliability co-efficiency of the instrument was found to be 0.83. Data collected were analyzed using mean for the research questions, while the null hypotheses were tested using Independent sample t-test at 0.05 level of significance. Findings: Based on the findings, recommendations were made among which are; Local businesses should liaise with technical colleges to fashion out a suitable industrial training program that will improve students’ experience. More funds should be provided by Government to improve the industrial training program. Practical Implications: The study will contribute positively to the understanding of industrial training program in technical colleges. Originality/value: This study innovates by suggesting strategies to improve the industrial training program between local businesses and technical colleges.

This study identified the practical skills possessed and skills required by furniture construction teachers in Zamfara and Katsina State, Nigeria. Three research questions that sort to determine the skills needs of furniture construction teachers were answered and one hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study was 42 teachers. A structured questionnaire was used to gather data from the 42 woodwork furniture construction teachers. The instrument had a reliability coefficient of 0.89 using Cronbach Alpa statistic.  Mean and standard deviation was used to answer research questions and a t-test was used to test the hypothesis using the IBM SPSS version 20. The findings of the study revealed that the respondents require skills on the ability to hold a saw with fore-finger straight out on one side of the handle, the ability to follow the “FEWTEL” method in preparing a piece of wood require further training, setting sliding bevel when marking out dovetail joint and selection of the right adhesive according to the purpose and type of wood as well as amount of force the adhesive would be subjected to required skills. It was recommended that; government should provide opportunities for furniture construction teachers to go on further training on the modern furniture construction technology required. The identified skills required by teachers of furniture construction should form the basis for the up-skill workshop to be organized as in-house training.

The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of automobile industries workshop craftsmen in relation to the integration of automobile mechatronics technology into the curriculum of automobile trade programmes in technical colleges in Nigeria. Three research questions guided the study. A survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study is 31 comprising 23 automobile industries workshop craftsmen who are currently working in automobile companies in Enugu state, and eight (8) automobile trades’ technical teachers in technical colleges in Enugu state. A structured questionnaire titled Instrument for Integrating Automobile Mechatronics Sub-systems (IIAMS) was used for data collection. Two experts from the Department of Industrial Technical Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and one expert from Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company (ANAMCO) face validated the instrument. The reliability co-efficient of the instrument was found to be 0.87 using Cronbach Alpha. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation for the research questions, while t-test was used to test the null hypotheses. The results of the study indicate that that automobile craftsmen find difficulties in servicing some automobile mechatronics sub-systems, while 16 mechatronics sub-systems were agreed on to be integrated into the automobile curriculum. It was recommended that these mechatronics sub-systems should be integrated into technical college curriculum and that technical colleges should partner with automobile industries for effective training of craftsmen. The study will contribute positively to the understanding of automobile mechatronics technology, and how it can be integrated into the curriculum.

Purpose: The study identified the rationale for material selection in landscaping for checking intrusion in public and private primary schools in Nsukka urban, Enugu state, Nigeria. Methodology/Approach/Design: A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. Three research questions guided the study. The population for the study was 102 respondents comprising 82 public/private school teachers and 20 builders. Due to the manageable size of the population, there was no sampling as the entire population was used for the study. The instrument used for data collection was a 25-item questionnaire derived from literature reviewed. The instrument was validated by three experts from the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Cronbach’s Alpha was used to determine the reliability of the instrument and a reliability coefficient of .85 was obtained. The data collected for this study was analyzed using mean and t-test. Results: The findings revealed some rationale for material selection in landscaping for checking intrusion in public and private primary schools which includes; the durability, maintenance, aesthetic and cost of each landscaping material; the initial and ongoing costs, the availability of the material to be used and the life cycle assessment considerations such as material performance, and impact on the environment and the ability to reuse the material. Practical Implications: The results of the study might be of interest to school principals and builders. The study reflects the common perceptions about landscaping to prevent intrusion into schools, and hence of practical implications to concerned education authorities in Nsukka urban, Nigeria. Originality/Value: The study identified the effects of poor landscaping in public and private primary schools which include; exposure of schools to risk of attacks, theft and exposure of schools to ecological problems such as flooding, erosions, deep gullies and a degrading environment.

This study was carried out to determine the skills required by electronics craftsmen for utilization of closedcircuit television (CCTV) for job security in Enugu State. Three research questions and three null hypotheses were formulated for the study. The population for the study was 50 respondents which included 35 electronics craftsmen and 15 technologists in Enugu State. All the 50 respondents were used for the study without sampling as a result of the relatively small population size. A 27 items statement questionnaire developed based on the research questions and reviewed literature were used as instrument for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation while t-test was used to test the three null hypotheses at .05 level of significance and appropriate degree of freedom. The study revealed that electronics craftsmen installation, maintenance and entrepreneurship skills are required by electronics craftsmen for utilization of closed-circuit television (CCTV) for job security in Enugu State. It was therefore recommended that electronic craftsmen should acquire adequate skills such as installation, maintenance and entrepreneurship which will help them to function sustainably in the area of CCTV and Government should conduct sensitization campaign in collaboration with technical education institutions to sensitize technical college students on the need to acquire skills for effective utilization of CCTV for job security in Enugu State.

Purpose: This study examined the perceived family-related determinants and implications of the low enrolment of female students in electrical installation and maintenance works in government science technical colleges of Adamawa State. Approach/Methodology/Design: A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of 13 Electrical Installation and Maintenance Work Trade (EIMWT) teachers and 129 parents of National Technical Certificate Two (NTCII) EIMWT students (either father or mother) in three Government Science Technical Colleges of Adamawa State. The sample of the study comprised of the entire population, thus no sampling was done. A 20-item questionnaire was developed by the researcher and used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated by three lecturers from the Department of Electrical Technology Education, Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Adamawa State. A reliability coefficient of 0.87 was obtained for the instrument using Cronbach Alpha. Mean was used to answer the research questions while a t-test was used to test the hypotheses. Findings: The findings of the study revealed low contribution from the female gender to family income in households and increased level of dependency of the female gender on the males in Adamawa State as major perceived family-related implications. Practical Implications: The study presents practical implications for concerned authorities to work on dismantling the negative perceptions about female education. The results suggest working closely with several institutions to raise awareness and enlighten parents and family members on the prospects of EIMWT, especially to the female gender. Originality/value: The study concludes that EIMWT is a way of investing in the education of females in view of breaking cycles of poverty and social vices that the females might be lured into.

This study determined the administrative staff rating of the adequacy of accommodation in tertiary institutions in Yobe State. Two research questions guided the study and two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The design of the study was descriptive survey. Population of the study was 1,032 administrative staff of federal and state tertiary institutions in the study area. A proportionate sampling was used to select a sample size of 310 administrative staff. A structured questionnaire containing 15 items validated by three experts was used for data collection. Cronbach alpha method was used to establish the internal consistency of the instrument. Correlation coefficients of 0.83 and 0.81 for two clusters (B1 and B2) with an overall coefficient of 0.82 were obtained.Two hundred and ninety eight duly completed copies of the instrument were retrieved and used for data analysis. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions and to determine the homogeneity of the respondents’ ratings while the t-test was used to test the hypotheses. Findings revealed that administrative staff of tertiary institutions in Yobe State rated office accommodation and conveniences in their offices lowly adequate. The findings also showed that ownership of tertiary institution was a significant factor on the mean ratings of administrative staff on the adequacy of accommodation while ownership of tertiary institution significantly did not influence their mean ratings on the adequacy of conveniences provided in their offices. Based on the findings, the researcher concluded that researcher concluded that there is need to improve the provision of office accommodation and conveniences in tertiary institutions in Yobe State, Nigeria. It was recommended among others that, administrators of tertiary institutions in Yobe State should collaborate more with private sectors in the areas of office accommodation and conveniences provision. This will encourage the private sectors to support the universities by providing some of these infrastructures to the institutions.

The current study examined training and retraining for skills improvement of teachers in technical colleges for sustainable national development in Nigeria. Three research questions and three hypotheses were raised for the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 273 technical teachers in 9 approved technical colleges in Lagos state. A sample of 90 technical teachers was used for the study. A 20-item structured questionnaire constructed by the researchers was used for data collection. Reliability was tested using Cronbach Alpha and a value of 0.87 was obtained. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics of the mean and standard deviation to answer research questions. Independent t-test was used to analyse three hypotheses at 0.05 levels of significances. The findings revealed that teachers perceive the availability of training and retraining programmes and sustainable national development can be achieved through training and retraining of teachers as training and retraining programmes can improve teachers’ skills of duties performance. The researchers therefore concluded and recommends that more efforts should be made by relevant bodies such government, higher institutions, professional bodies and among others to put in place more training and retraining programmes for teachers of technical colleges and they should also be encouraged to attend and participate in such programmes to improve their skills in order enable them to function effectively for sustainable national development to be achieved.

The study investigated students’ perception of mystical and pathogenic agents of disease causation. Guided by four research questions and two null hypotheses, the study employed a descriptive survey research design. It was carried out in Obollo-Afor Education Zone of Enugu State of Nigeria. A sample of 370 SS2 Biology students was drawn from the population (4,828) using a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire in Likert format whose reliability coefficient was 0.84, determined using Cronbach Alpha. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions while t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Results revealed that students were aware that pathogenic agents such as virus, bacteria, pathogenic fungi, protozoa and some worms cause diseases to man. They had the awareness that some diseases are associated with mystical agents such as oath-breaking, and witches among others. Also, students’ school location had no significant influence on their mean perception scores of the mystical and pathogenic agents of disease causation. These enable students to have a broader knowledge of disease causations and being able to avoid such causes in order to build a healthy sustainable future. Recommendations and conclusion were made. This study was carried out to determine the measures for promoting democracy in a depressed economy through business education for national security in Enugu State. Two research questions and two null hypotheses were used for the study. The study adopted a survey research design. The population for the study was 41 business educators from four government owned tertiary institutions in Enugu State. There was no sampling since the population was manageable. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire developed by the researchers and validated by the experts. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha, which yielded an overall index 0.72. Mean and standard deviation were used in answering research questions while hypotheses were tested using t-test. It was found that governmental measures items promoted democracy through business education for national security. The study also revealed that lecturers‟ measures also promotes democracy through business education for national security. It was recommended that: government should make adequate budgetary provision for business education. Democrats should be involved in business teacher‟s conferences and seminars.
