This study was conducted during the kharif, 2020 at ICAR-Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Puducherry, India aimed to examine the effect of fortified in situ rice residue compost, zinc nano fertilizer on the growth and yield of rice under rice cultivation methods. The experiment was conducted in a split plot design; 3mainplots (TPR, DSR and AR) and eight subplots (fortified manures and nano zinc particles) with three replications. The results revealed that the TPRsignificantly improved tillers, LAI, productive tillers, panicle weight, grain and straw yield, zinc content and uptake and it was statistically on par with DSRand superior over AR. Nutrient management, fortified manure + ZnO NPs (SP+FS) significantly registered higher growth and yield attributes, Zn content and uptake of rice over to ZnO seed priming alone, ZnSO4 and control. The PGPM, humic acid and seaweed extract fortified organic manures either FYM or rice residue compost, nano zinc as seed priming and foliar spray under TPR or DSR have the potential to maximize rice production without foregoing soil sustainability

Poor early growth and uneven crop establishment are reported as the major bottlenecks in wide-scale adoption and optimal yield realization of dry direct-seeded rice (DSR). Seed priming can potentially help overcome these problems in DSR. Therefore, laboratory and field studies were conducted at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, India, during kharif/wet-season 2018 and 2019 to evaluate the effect of different priming techniques on germination, establishment, growth, and grain yield of rice under DSR conditions. The following priming treatments were evaluated: dry non-primed seed (control), hydropriming with distilled water, halopriming with 2.0% potassium nitrate, hormopriming with 50 ppm gibberellic acid (GA3), and osmopriming with polyethylene glycol (PEG)(−0.6 MPa), each with 12 and 24 h priming duration. In 2019, priming treatments were tested under two DSR establishment methods—conventional DSR (sowing in dry soil followed by irrigation) and soil mulch DSR (locally known as vattar DSR) (sowing in moist soil after pre-sowing irrigation), whereas in 2018, priming treatments were evaluated under conventional DSR only. In both years, halopriming and hormopriming resulted in a 7–11% increase in rice yields compared to non-primed dry seed (control). Osmopriming resulted in a 4% yield increase compared to control in 2018 but not in 2019. The higher yields in halopriming and hormopriming were attributed to higher and rapid germination/crop emergence, better root growth, and improvement in yield attributes. Priming effect on crop emergence, growth, and yield did not differ by DSR establishment methods and duration of priming. Conventional DSR and soil mulch DSR did not differ in grain yield, whereas they differed in crop emergence, growth, and yield attributes. These results suggest that halopriming with 2.0% potassium nitrate and hormopriming with 50 ppm GA3 has good potential to improve crop establishment and yield of rice in both conventional and soil mulch DSR systems.

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of micronutrients on the growth and yield performance of chickpea. The experiment was consisted using two factors- variety and treatments. Two local cultivars viz. BARI Chola-5 and BARI Chola-9 and five treatments e.g. T0 = control, T1 = 2 kg B/ha, T2 = 2 kg Mo/ha, T3= seed priming with Mo (1g/l water), T4 = foliar spray of B (0.5 g/l water) + seed priming with Mo (1g/l water), and T5 = 2 kg B/ha + seed priming with Mo (1g/l water) were considered for this study. A randomized complete block design (RCBD) was adopted with three replications. Significant variation was observed between the varieties and here the BARI Chola-9 produced the higher seed yield (2.47 ton/ ha). Treatment showed significant effect on the yield attributes and yield of chickpea. The highest plant height, number of branches/ plant, number of pods/ plant, nodule/ plant, number of effective pod/ plant, length of the pod, 1000-grain weight, seed yield, straw yield, biological yield was obtained from T4. The highest seed yield (2.68 ton/ ha) was recorded from BARI Chola-9 with foliar spray of boron and seed priming with Mo. The results indicated that foliar spray of B and seed priming with molybdenum can be beneficial in improving growth and yield of chickpea variety BARI Chola-9. J. A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2015 on silty clay loam soil at MPKV, Rahuri (MS), to study the varying nutrient management levels on productivity and economics of different soybean varieties. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with 15 combinations of three varieties (KDS-344, JS-9305 and KS-103) and five nutrient management levels ( GRDF, 75% GRDF + 0.5% foliar spray of grade IInd at 30 and 45 DAS, 100% GRDF + 0.5% foliar spray of grade IInd at 30 and 45 DAS, N4: 125% GRDF + 0.5% foliar spray of grade IInd at 30 and 45 DAS and 50:75:30 N, P2O5, K2O kg ha-1 + 5 tons FYM ha-1. The variety KDS-344 and application of nutrient management dose 125% GRDF + 0.5 Grade IInd foliar spray at 30 and 45 DAS recorded significantly the highest growth and yield attributes viz., plant height (cm), number of branches, number root of nodules, number of pod plant-1 and weight of seeds plant-1 (g). The variety KDS-344 recorded highest grain and stover (3.66 and 4.64 t /ha) yield and highest economic indices like cost of cultivation (40,623), net monetary returns (87355) and net returns per rupee invested (3.17). The grain yield (4.34 t/ha) and stover yield (4.53 t/ha) of soybean was significantly higher by application of fertilizer dose of 125% GRDF + 0.5% Grade IInd foliar spray at 30 and 45 DAS than rest of treatments, but it was also at par with 75% GRDF + 0.5 Grade IInd foliar spray at 30 and 45 DAS and 100% GRDF + 0.5% Grade IInd foliar spray at 30 and 45 DAS. Similarly, variety KDS-344 and application of nutrient levels of 75 % GRDF + 0.5 % Grade IInd foliar spray at 30 and 45 DAS recorded the highest net returns (82756) and net returns per rupee invested (3.24) in soybean due to reduce in cost of cultivation (36931) and nutrient losses.

A field experiment was conducted to observe the osmolyte-induced water deficit stress mitigation during the panicle initiation stage in transplanted rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. BRRI dhan72). At the panicle initiation stage, plants were simulated with four levels of water regimes viz., well-irrigated (D0), water deficit for 5 d (D1), 10 d (D2) and 15 d (D3). Plants were treated with or without 10 mM of proline (Pro) and trehalose (Tre) as foliar spray started at mid-vegetative stage and continued till the end of stress period. Results revealed that water deficit stress drastically reduced most of the plant morpho-physiological attributes while other yield contributing characters were also affected due to prolonged water deficit stress. However, exogenous application of osmolytes like Pro and Tre significantly increased all those morphological, physiological and yield contributing parameters. Foliar addition of osmolytes concomitantly decreased the number of non-effective tillers hill-1 and the number of unfilled grain panicle-1 under water stress condition. Although both the osmolytes performed well under multiple duration of drought stress, the application of 10 mM Pro markedly improved all growth and yield contributing parameters under D1 water deficit stress compared to other stress durations. Hence, it may be concluded that the use of osmolytes would be a prospective remedy against moderate water deficit stress in transplanted rice production.

Field experiments were conducted during Kharif-2017 and 2018 at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mangaluru of coastal Karnataka to study the effect of integration of organic and inorganic sources of nitrogen on the yield of midland rice. The results indicated that the integration of organic and inorganic sources of nitrogen significantly influenced the growth and yield attributes of rice. The highest grain yield (5434 and 5372 kg ha-1) and straw yield (6817 and 6927 kg ha-1) were recorded in the treatment comprising VC substituted with 50 percent recommended dose of nitrogen which was on par with PM substituted at 50 percent in both the years. A similar trend was also noticed in both the years for the growth and yield parameters where the highest plant height (94.93 and 96.30 cm) highest productive tillers (16.85 and 18.12) and longer panicle length (17.54 and 18.65 cm) was recorded in the treatment where 50 percent nitrogen was substituted by vermicompost compared to control. The remaining treatments of organic substitution ratios with urea also had a beneficial effect on yield and yield parameters of rice compared to control.

A pot experiment was conducted in Kharif 2009 and 2010 to study the effect of potassium humate and chemical fertilizers on growth and yield attributes of rice (Oryza sativa L). Potassium humate was applied at the rate of 0, 5 and 10 mg/kg soil along with 100 and 75% recommended dose of fertilizers NPK (60, 30, 30 mg/kg) and 12.5 mg/kg zinc sulphate was also applied. Addition of 10 mg/kg PH along with 100% NPK fertilizers and 12.5 mg/kg zinc sulphate caused significant increase in plant height, number of tillers, panicle height, panicle length, test weight, straw yield and yield of rice as compared to 100 and 75% NPK alone. Background: Blackgram (Vigna mungo L.), the most important highly prized pulse crops is grown throughout India. The productivity can be evaluated through various input management practices including inorganic and organic as well as natural way of cultivation. Methods: Both lab and field investigations were carried out to choose best tree leaf extracts for seed fortification and foliar nutrition in blackgram and also to evaluate performance of Vrikshayurvedic farming practices with seed fortification and foliar spraying of Moringa oleifera leaf extracts and basal nutrition of Delonix regia. Comparison with conventional scientific practices and do-nothing farming practice was also made. Result: Vrikshayurvedic farming (Delonix regia + Moringa oleifera @ 5%) as green leaf manure and foliar spray with tree leaf extract, respectively, registered highest vales for growth and yield parameters. It was at par with conventional scientific practice (RDF @ 25:50:25 NPK kg ha-1 and foliar spray with DAP 2% twice @ 30 and 45 DAS). It is inferred that vrikshayurveda treatments resulted in better plant growth, DMP, seed yield, pod yield equivalent as that of conventional practice and superior to do-nothing practice. It also helps to improve and maintain soil fertility over a long period of time.
