Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an important source for sharing and receiving of agricultural information. The present study explored the constraints faced by farmers and suggestions for effective utilization of ICT services for agricultural information. The study was conducted in all villages of Nandyal Mandal of Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh. 2021. Responses from the 120 farmers were collected through well-structured interview schedule. It was revealed that that lack of knowledge about ICT tools, poor condition of equipment, relevant information not received in time and awareness of new ICT service among farmers about the use of ICTs for the educational and agricultural purpose were the major constraints in ICT use. All these constraints can be overcome by implementing suggestions by farmers like; proper and improved infrastructural facilities at the village level, providing relevant information at a time and skill development updating with training, creating awareness regarding use of ICTs for educational and agricultural purpose. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis in finding relationships between variables. The findings show that most of the farmers in Nandyal Mandal that use ICTs as a source of agricultural information.

In Swaziland, ICT integration in teaching and learning is at the infancy stage. Learning opportunities provided by the increasing use of technology in classrooms are not being harnessed in secondary schools. The purpose of the study was to describe ICT integration in the teaching and learning of Agriculture in relation to complexity and the compatibility of the ICT tools in Swaziland. Specific objectives were (1) to describe the complexity of ICT tools as perceived by the teachers and (2) to further describe the compatibility of ICT tools in relation to the teachers’ experiences. A descriptive correlational design employing a mixed method approach was used to conduct the study. Data was collected using a Semi-structured interview guide and a survey questionnaire. The population for the study was (N=325) involving all secondary school Agriculture Teachers (N= 312) and key informants who were Agricultural Education Administrators (n=13). The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) guided the study. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse data. With regard to complexity findings revealed that (1) computers make teaching of complex concepts easy, (2) computer use fits well in my curriculum goals, and that (3) learning to use ICT in teaching is a challenge. In overall findings indicated that the ICT tools were less complex to use by the Agriculture Teachers while teaching. The study further revealed that complexities of ICT use by Agriculture teachers were brought about by the age of teachers and the frequent changing of technologies. In relation to compatibility of ICT usage findings revealed that Agriculture Teachers agreed that (1) ICT is quick in meeting information needs, (2) Working with computers make them feel comfortable, (3) ICT use in teaching was very convenient, (4) Agriculture requires more ICT assistance, (5) computers brought positive changes in the schools, and that (6) computer use suits the learners needs. The study further indicated that Agriculture teachers perceived that ICT devices were (7) compatible with existing practices, (8) ICT philosophy was compatible with the subject content, and that (9) ICT integration allows well demonstration of real situations. It is recommended that a policy articulating the need and usage of ICT integration to support teaching and learning be enacted, thus, compelling Internet service providers to extend their bandwidth of Internet to all schools. It is further recommended, that ICT integration pedagogical skills be part of all pre-service and in-service teacher preparatory programmes.

This study examined the factors influencing the choice of information and communication technology (ICT) tools used in tomato marketing by smallholder farmers in Kirinyaga County, Kenya. Households were selected through a combination of purposive, two-stage stratified and probability proportionate to size sampling techniques. The study employed Semi-structured interview schedules to collect data from the sampled small-scale tomato farmers. Factors affecting the choice of ICT tools in tomato marketing were identified using multivariate model. The study revealed that age, income, level of education, farmers’ experience, and farm size, tomato production, willingness to pay for ICT tools, tomato prices and knowledge on ICT are predictors of choice of ICT use. ICT should be given in such a way that all farmers can get information as per their need. Policy makers and agricultural extension agents should create awareness on the use and importance of ICT tools for farmers to accept and use available ICT tools.

In many underserved communities in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), including those in Ghana, there are microfinance institutions (MFIs) that provide small non-collateralized loans (or micro-loans) to entrepreneurs, including women entrepreneurs. The micro-lending activities, especially those channeled through entrepreneurship programs, were reported as being helpful and allowed for financial inclusion. However, Anaman and Pobbi evaluated performance and reported that some of the MFIs were becoming a burden because of steep interest rate charges and loan default, raising a need for borrowers to use relevant information and communication technology (ICT) tools and services to support business operations. This chapter reports a study on the differences in attitudes of female versus male borrowers of micro-loans and their use of ICT to support small business operations in Ghana.

The importance of information and communication technology (ICT) in economic development is a topic that still raises contention. The view held commonly among global development institutions—the World Bank, UN, The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and so on—is that it plays a positive role. Within a new approach to the role of knowledge in economic development, stress is laid on how to bridge the gap between technologically advanced countries (TACs) where ICT use is widespread and less developed countries (LDCs) where shortage or lack of access to it is perceived as an impediment to growth and development. While agreeing, in principle, with a positive viewpoint on ICT in economic development, this essay takes a different approach; it seeks to analyse the contextual adaptations of ICT use rather than its use ipso facto leading to a positive outcome. It is argued that ICT use adapts itself to the socio-organizational design of work in an LDC rather than transforming it. Further, to bring this technological change, a much more hands-on approach in ICT service production and dissemination would be required instead of these countries functioning as mere recipients of arm’s length ICT services.

ICT has offered great potential, especially as an aid to every aspect of human endeavor. Inspire of the roles played by ICT especially in teaching/learning, there are still some impediments to its effective utilization by the academic staff. This work examined the academic staff challenges to effective utilization of ICT in teaching and learning of Agricultural Education in Federal Universities in South East geopolitical zones of Nigeria. Forty respondents were purposively sampling from universities and used for the study. Three research questions guided the study. A 35-item researchers’ developed questionnaire was used for data collection. Instrument validation covered face and content validity by two experts in educational management and agricultural education. While reliability index values of 0.86, 0.85 and 0.92 were obtained using Cronbach alpha. Means and grand means were used to analyze the research questions. The findings revealed a low extent utilization and inadequate ICT tool literacy among the academic staff in the federal universities in south east geo-political zone of Nigeria. It is therefore recommended that the academic staff avail themselves the opportunity of various conferences and workshops to acquire the needed skills for effective utilization of ICT tools.
