The daily need for citizens to move for different activities, whatever its nature, has been greatly affected by the changes. The advantages resulting from the inclusion of the bicycle as a mode of transport and the proliferation of its use among citizens are numerous and extend both in the field of urban mobility and sustainable development.Currently, there are a number of programs for the implementation, promotion or increased public participation related to cycling in cities. But ultimately, each and every one of these initiatives have the same goal, to create a mesh of effective, useful and cycling trails that allow the use of bicycles in preferred routes with high guarantees of security, incorporating bicycle model intermodal urban transport.With the gradual implementation of bike lanes, many people have begun to use them to get around the city. But everything again needs a period of adaptation, and the reality is that the road network for these vehicles is full of obstacles to the rider. The current situation has led to the proposal that many kilometers of cycle paths needed to supply the demand of this mode of transport and, if implemented and planned are correct and sufficient.This paper presents a mathematical programming model for optimal design of a network for cyclists is presented. Specifically, the model determines a network of bicycle infrastructure, appropriate to the characteristics of a network of existing roads.As an application of the proposed model, the result of these experiments give a number of useful conclusions for planning and designing networks of cycle paths from a social perspective, applied to the case in the city of Malaga.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/CIT2016.2016.4089

Pharmacies are considered as an integral part of health care systems for supplying medicine to patients. In order to access  medicine with ease, pharmacies locations in the context of distance and demand are important for patients. In the case of a few numbers of pharmacies may be on duty at nights or during holidays, pharmacies duty scheduling problem occur and can be associated with location models. In contrast to widely used p-median model which aims to minimize the demand-weighted distance, we maximize the demand covered over the distance between the patients and the pharmacies on duty. Main contribution of the proposed model is the restriction constraint for the distance between pharmacies on duty in order to ensure fairness in an organizational view of point. We propose a distance restricted maximal covering location model (DR-MCLM) in this study. This mathematical model is a mixed integer linear programming model and solved by Lingo optimization software. The distances between the pharmacies and the sites are obtained using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The model is applied for the case in Adana, one of the biggest cities in Turkey. The results are given on the maps of the city, including the pharmacies on duty and their assignments to sites in each day of the period.

This paper analyzed the urban mobility and mode of transportation within Cotonou, by diagnosing the current problems of transport through the role of each transports actors, demographic. Based on the survey which highlights the characteristics '' household-mobility in Cotonou, this research revealed, on one hand, the large gap between the transport infrastructures and the transport demand, and in the other hand, the exceptional case of mobility in this metropolitan area, where the motorcycles largely dominate the other mode of transport in the city, including public buses which implementation has failed. In the end, some recommendations have been made and proposals formulated in aim to respond efficiently to the urban transport problem in Cotonou.

As bicycling on roadways can cause adverse health effects, there is an urgent need to understand how bicycle routes expose bicyclists to traffic emissions. Limited resources for monitoring reveal that bicycle travel patterns may constrain such understanding at the network level. This study examined the potential exposure of bicyclists to traffic-related air pollution in El Paso, Texas, using Strava Metro data that revealed bicycle patterns across the city networks. An initial spatial mapping analysis was conducted to explore the spatial patterns of bicycling and traffic pollutant emission, followed by exploratory descriptive statistics. A spatial bicycle model was then developed to explore factors influencing bicycling activity in El Paso. Analysis results indicated significant associations between greater bicycle volume and both higher levels of particulate matter (PM2.5) emissions and more frequent bus services, implying adverse health concerns related to traffic-related air pollution. The results also indicated significant effects of various environmental characteristics (e.g., roadway, bicycle infrastructure, topography, and demographics) on bicycling. The findings encourage extending this study to provide guidance to bicyclists whose regular trips take place on heavily trafficked roads and during rush hours in this region and to evaluate the net health impacts of on-road bicycling for the general population.

Abstract The Smart Travel Planner concept for an optimal travel choice, supported by a Personalized Internet Portal, has to promote the sustainable urban mobility. STP is an important tool for Sustainable Urban Transport Decalogue’s implementation that is intended to result in lower emissions, better health and lower investment costs in the road infrastructure. The questionnaires included are for checking its public acceptance in the city and at end users’ level.

This paper seeks to build new park and ride facilities (including the location and size) as well as expand the old ones based on the super road network composed of the road network and mass rapid transit (MRT) network. Park and ride facility location model of the outskirts of the city is established grounded infusing path-based user equilibrium assignment model and multi-assignment method, which is based on minimal investments. The calculation results of the model show that park and ride facilities on the outskirts of the city can greatly reduce the road traffic in central area.

Accessibility is important for road network planning and design, especially the accessibility of freeway entrances and exits, which reflects the convenience of travelers using freeways and the rationality of the connection between urban roads and freeways. Based on the path information of navigation map software, a new comprehensive travel impedance model to dynamically analyze the accessibility of freeway entrances and exits was proposed. The dynamic accessibility of freeway entrances and exits in Zhengzhou was studied using the proposed comprehensive impedance model, and the calculation results were analyzed. The accessibility of freeway entrances and exits is characterized by dynamic changes; the accessibility during the off-peak evening period is the highest, while that during the morning peak period and evening peak period is lower. The results of the comprehensive impedance model are roughly consistent with reality. From a location perspective, regardless of the period of time, the accessibility of freeway entrances and exits in the central and surrounding areas of Zhengzhou is always at a lower level, and during the off-peak afternoon period, the accessibility of the eastern part of the city is notably higher than that of the western part. Additionally, the accessibility of freeway entrances and exits is closely related to the traffic status of the road network and the characteristics of regional land use. The information can provide feedback for planning road networks and provide a reference for road network planning and traffic facility design.

The demand-responsive public transport Citybus 2.0 was an innovation not only for Goiânia, but for all of Latin America. Created in 2019, this new way of getting around the city is intended to be a substitute for individual motorized transport, encouraging sustainable urban mobility. In order to analyze this new means of transport in the capital of Goiás, an online questionnaire was applied, which had 217 responses, of which 130 are users and 87 are non-users. The questionnaire had ten questions, two of which were general and eight with the purpose of collecting information on user satisfaction regarding the service provided by the new mode of transport. As for the perception of satisfaction, the items related to the cost and service range had the worst ratings.

The use of a bicycle as a form of transport is an essential factor within a sustainable transport system. The increased number of cyclists is changing their need for better and better infrastructure. Koprivnica is traditional cycling city, with one of the longest cycling infrastructure in the Republic of Croatia. However, parts are disconnected and partly inconsistent with the Bicycle Infrastructure Regulations (OG 26/2016). This results with reduced mobility and safety for all road users, especially pedestrians and cyclists who often share a common surface. The paper presents a method of mapping bicycle infrastructure in the city. As a reference point for comparing the state of cycling infrastructure, data were taken from the 2015 Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Koprivnica. In addition to personal bicycles in the city, public bicycles are also proposed to optimize this system. After the analysis, suggestions were made for improvements and connecting parts of existing network, into a united network that would meet the highest standards. Particular attention should be paid to intermodality, ie connection with railway and bus stations, and planned parking areas around the city. This model can be applied in all cities.

Road anomalies and irregularities such as potholes and uneven surfaces are a common hazard in South East Asia and developing countries. Such hazards pose a threat to the safety and well-being of both civilians going about their daily routine and tourists who are exploring the city. Since bicycles and rickshaws are still a common mode of transport used by both civilians and tourists in many South East Asian countries, it is essential to improve the overall quality and smoothness of pavements which are traversed by these vehicles. Management of international sporting and recreational events also require satisfactory road and pavement conditions. Before pavement conditions can be improved, it is an essential prerequisite to obtain comprehensive information about road irregularities such as the location and also severity of the road irregularity (depth of the potholes and height of bumps). In this paper, we propose a method for obtaining mathematical models that represent the overall condition of the pavements that are part of a commonly traversed cycling route. Such mathematical models and coefficients can be stored in the cloud of an Internet of Things (IOT) data analytics systems subsequently leading to identification of regions with severe road irregularities. ABSTRAK:  Kerosakan pada permukaan jalan raya merupakan salah satu faktor risiko kemalangan yang berlaku secara meluas di negara Asia Tenggara dan negara membangun yang lain. Memandangkan kenderaan seperti beca dan basikal masih diguna pakai secara meluas di negara membangun, adalah mustahak untuk membaik pulih kerosakan jalan raya. Pengurusan sukan antarabangsa dan rekreasi juga memerlukan keadaan jalan dan laluan pejalan kaki yang baik. Sebelum kerja membaik pulih dapat dilakukan, maklumat lengkap mengenai tahap kerosakan jalan raya dan lokasi kerosakan diperlukan. Dalam kajian ini satu kaedah telah diperkenalkan untuk mendapatkan persamaan matematik yang menggambarkan keadaan sebenar permukaan jalan raya, di mana sebahagiannya merupakan laluan berbasikal yang selalu digunakan. Model matematik dan pekali ini boleh di simpan dalam sistem analisis data awan Internet Benda (IOT) kemudiannya dapat mengenal pasti kawasan jalan yang rosak dan tidak rata.

The article presents the relationship between the intensity of bicycle traffic volume and the development of bicycle infrastructure on the example of Warsaw. There has been a big increase in cycling over the last decade. At the same time, the linear and point bicycle infrastructure developed very strongly. Similar trends are also observed in other cities in Poland. The article presents the types of infrastructure available to cyclists. Then, the method of assessing the bicycle infrastructure is presented, taking into account the five features of good bicycle infrastructure: cohesion, directness, attractiveness, safety and comfort. In terms of coherence, the analysis covered the bicycle infrastructure network in the vicinity of the measurement site. The directness was tested by checking the accessibility of several dozen of the most important nodal points of the city's communication network. The attractiveness was examined by checking the availability of public bike stations, bicycle racks and bike-sharing stations. The infrastructure adjusted to the technical class of the road was adopted as a measure of safety. The comfort was checked by analyzing the quality of the road surface, which affects the driving comfort and energy expenditure. All the factors presented impact the cyclist's assessment of the infrastructure. To standardize the assessment rules, an aggregate index of the development of bicycle infrastructure was determined. The analysis was carried out for 10 sample points for four consecutive years. The points were characterized by different bicycle infrastructure, location in the city road network and different results of bicycle traffic measurements. The analysis showed a strong positive relationship between traffic and cycling infrastructure for most of the analyzed places. There was a negative dependence in the case of the construction of alternative routes in relation to the place of traffic measurements. The obtained results are the same as in the works of other authors. However, the effects of work do not allow to determine which of the examined factors is the cause and which is the effect but only show the existing relationship.
