In previous courses, professors of the degree of ComputerScience and Software Engineering of the University of Zaragoza realised that students did not like studying materias related to Legislation and Information Systems. However, these topics are key when Computer Science and Software Engineers have to analyse, design, implement and mantain Information Systems in different environments such as enterprises, public entities, etc. because rights  of users/clients  of  these  systems must be guaranteed. So, a more appeling way to  teach those topics to motivate the students to take them into account was designed. This  paper  describes  the  methodology and the main activities designed in the 2014/2015  and  2015/2016  courses in order to get the attention of the students on topics related to the current Spanish legislation and Information Systems. Moreover, some indicators about the performance of the students and their opinions about this new methodology are also described and analysed.

This paper describes a qualitative participatory research project conducted at the National Advisory Committee on Computing Qualifications Conference in New Zealand (NACCQ2002). Data was gathered at a dynamic poster session. Results obtained indicated that majority of computing academics in the polytechnic community in New Zealand regard themselves as teaching in the core overlapping areas of Software Engineering, Computer Science and Information Systems, regardless of their professional affiliation. Most participants taught subjects that lay within the Information Systems area; very few positioned themselves in the exclusively Computer Science or Software Engineering areas, or in the ove r-lap between Software Engineering and Computer. Results from this research are discussed in the paper.

Teaching a statistics course for undergraduate computer science students can be very challenging: As statistics teachers we are usually faced with problems ranging from a complete disinterest in the subject to lack of basic knowledge in mathematics and anxiety for failing the exam, since statistics has the reputation of having high failure rates. In our case, we additionally struggle with difficulties in the timing of the lectures as well as often occurring absence of the students due to spare-time jobs or a long traveling time to the university. This paper reveals how these issues can be addressed by the introduction of a blended learning module in statistics. In the following, we describe an e-learning development process used to implement time- and location-independent learning in statistics. The study focuses on a six-step-approach for developing the blended learning module. In addition, the teaching framework for the blended module is presented, including suggestions for increasing the interest in learning the course. Furthermore, the first experimental in-class usage, including evaluation of the students’ expectations, has been completed and the outcome is discussed.

One of the causes of bad software planning is the lack of qualified professionals and that in order to improve their quality it is necessary to improve the quality of teaching in the Software Engineering area. Educational games present themselves as a promising alternative as a method of teaching support, since they are able to teach while they entertain, motivating the student to learn, however, there is still a need to evaluate the real benefits of this didactic resource. Thus, this work evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively the game SimulES (Software Engineering Simulator), an educational cards game that simulates the software process development. Applying it to Computer Engineering students at UNIVASF in the Software Engineering II discipline, with the purpose of inferring its effectiveness in teaching software project management. The application of the game was done with 22 students in the semester of 2017.1 and to measure the quality of learning obtained through the game was applied a questionnaire that uses Kirkpatrick reaction concepts, ARCS Model, User Experience in Games and BLOOM Taxonomy. The result of the analysis by t Student test showed that the game's activities are fun, enjoyable and challenging, as well as being able to motivate students to learn software project management and contribute to learning that content.
