Background- As one of the objectives of Design for Additive Manufacture, the capability of customized geometry promotes 3D printing to increasingly realize product customization in the service market. Defined as a business strategy focusing on customer experience and interaction, co-creation is expected to obtain fast-growing market volume. Recently, some co-creation of 3D printing service (3DPS) have been released to realize value creation. Despite its rapid growth, there is little research on this field, especially its design method. Aim- This research aims to define a systemic design method for developing the co-creation of 3DPS. Method- First, this research distinguished ambiguous-type and definite-type of 3DPS co-creation. The latter was taken as the current research object, because it presents the services scope more clearly. Furthermore, in order to solve the research question, that is, how to organize the service innovation for 3DPS co-creation, evidence needed to be collected by observing the mentioned cases. Therefore, holistic multiple-case study of 3DPS co-creation samples was designed and conducted, as it was herein employed as the research method. This research is divided into three sections. The first section presents the preparation for data collection, involving case selection and the formulation of evidence collection. The second section analyzes the collected evidences. Based on the evidence analysis, the third section concludes the knowledge of 3DPS co-creation. In order to collect adequate evidences, a pair of models was employed to build a framework. The first one is the Den Hertog's service innovation model, which presents four dimensions including new service concept, new client interface, new service delivery system, and technological options. Another model refers to the building blocks of interactions for value co-creation: dialogue, access, risk-benefits, and transparency, presenting the components in basis construction, which are necessary for the interaction between consumer and service provider. Finding- The findings conclude a systemic design method for 3DPS co-creation, which is divided into the following steps: embedding 3DPS co-creation in current product customization, developing a WebGL-based interface for service processes, preparing 3D printing technology for customized results, evaluating and optimizing the co-creation structure according to the standard including clear dialogues, complete customization access, reasonable understanding of risk-benefits, and ideal transparency.Conclusion- This research proposes a systemic design method for co-creation of 3DPS, which promises benefits to enterprises engaged in the 3D printing service, and will contribute to promoting co-creation in the context of service design and other related fields.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/IFDP.2016.3144

Agung Artomoro is a service company operating since February 2012. The company was established because of the high number of migrants in Indonesia associated with the high demand for labor in the plantation industry. The company focuses on offering full package service in providing labor for plantation, providing goods for plantation labor, and providing transportation service. Since it was founded, the company continues to get a positive earning year to year, but the increase in revenue followed by an increase in the cost, and it causes profit stagnation. This research investigates what causes of the stagnation in company profit. The research question design method was used in this paper, which involves using a qualitative research interview in collecting data from 11 respondents, including internal and external parties. The external analysis results show that the pulp and paper industry is still growing, which supported by government regulation. The internal analysis results show that the company has resources and capabilities that have not been fully maximized. The conclusion of the internal and external analysis resulted in details of SWOT analysis tools and formulated into the Fishbone analysis to discover the root cause of the company's problem. This research aims to create a new business model by proposing a few strategies to increase business performance evaluation for internal development. The researcher selected two strategies obtained from Porter’s Generic Strategy, which used a vertical integration strategy, both integrating backward and integrating forward.  The results of the proposed strategies are mapped into Business Model Canvas and highlight how cost leadership strategy can maximize the use of resources and capabilities to make business performance more effective and efficient and create sustainability in competitive advantages.

The significance of innovative capabilities and new product development (NPD) in marketing and business strategy innovation has been recognised by researchers and management. Researchers and practitioners have explored and evaluated the organisational capabilities and knowledge management, too. This current paper, however, represents inadequacy of connection between organisational capabilities, innovative capabilities, new product development and integrated shared knowledge. Furthermore, there is insufficient knowledge and data on the effect and the involvement of organisational capabilities and integrated shared knowledge to company's success, performance, and sustainability. This paper aimed at determining whether there is a connection between organisational capabilities, innovative capabilities, new product development and integrated shared knowledge. The purpose of this paper is to investigate and explore how organisational capabilities and shared knowledge impact and contribute to innovative capabilities, new product development and innovative management. This paper has empolyed a qualitative multiple-site case study through conducting one-on-one (personal) interviews as well as conducting in-depth interviews with key decision makers from innovative and technology companies located in Texas State in the USA. This paper attempts to answer the following key research question, namely: How do organisational capabilities and shared knowledge that influence innovative capability and new product development contribute to the company’s performance, success, and sustainability? NVivo 11 Qualitative Data Analysis Software was used to import and analyse the respondent interviews. The software (NVivo 11) was also used to determine the study findings through theme analysis. The paper key finding is that organisational capabilities and shared knowledge are linked and crucial for the success of innovative capabilities and new product development. A set of recommendations for future researchers is proposed.

It is commonly known that in this present days technology has been heavily linked with daily life with various affects. These influences has made basic human needs also changed functionally. For example the existence of smartphone has become one of the most crucial thing on supporting daily life activities. Smartphones are only 1 of the various types of gadgets (devices) that have specific functions for users for the sake of facilitating their activities. The existence of gadgets slowly over time began to change into one of the primary needs of millennial society today. A concrete example that we can see is the ease of transportation, transactions, and interacting with the help of smartphone usage. Not only in terms of practical functions, gadget technology also has functions of entertainment & hobbies such as digital cameras, drones, game consoles, 3D printing, etc. Based on concrete statements and phenomena of human civilization now, the existence of the gadget trend center is considered important. And also based on a design method that discusses data and analysis of weaknesses and strength of site locations and approved programs, the Jakarta Gadget Trend Center is produced. This project is designed to have the maximum level of space efficiency and has a contextual response to the style and topography of the area in the form of mass, interior, and facade. AbstrakSudah diketahui secara umum bahwa di masa kini teknologi sudah melekat dengan kehidupan sehari - hari masyarakat umum dengan pengaruh yang beragam. Pengaruh tersebut membuat kebutuhan dasar manusia juga berubah secara fungsional. Contohnya keberadaan smartphone atau ponsel pintar menjadi benda paling krusial dalam mendukung kemudahan dan kelancaran beraktivitas sehari - hari. Smartphone hanya 1 dari sekian jenis gadget (gawai) yang memiliki fungsi tertentu bagi penggunanya untuk kepentingan yang memudahkan kegiatan mereka. Keberadaan gadget perlahan seiring berjalannya waktu mulai berubah menjadi salah satu kebutuhan primer masyarakat milenial kini. Contoh konkrit yang dapat kita lihat fenomenanya adalah kemudahan bertransportasi, bertransaksi, dan berinteraksi dengan penggunaan smartphone. Bukan hanya dari segi fungsi praktis, teknologi gadget juga memiliki fungsi entertainment & hobby seperti kamera digital, drone, game console, 3D printing, dsb. Berdasarkan pernyataan dan fenomena konkrit dari peradaban manusia kini, keberadaan pusat tren gawai dirasa penting. Dengan berbasis metode perancangan yang mengacu pada data dan analisis mengenai kelemahan dan kelebihan lokasi tapak maupun program yang disarankan, maka dihasilkanlah Jakarta Gadget Trend Center. Proyek ini didesain untuk memiliki tingkat efisiensi ruang semaksimal mungkin dan memiliki respons kontekstual terhadap langgam serta topografi kawasan dalam bentukan massa, interior, maupun fasad.

The additive manufacture is a fabrication process that has taken huge steps in the last decade, even though the first researches and prototypes are around since almost forty years ago. In this article, a design method for a Parallel Kinematics Robot for Additive Manufacturing Applications is proposed. A numerical model is obtained from the kinematics of the robot for which the design, construction and assembly are planned using recycled materials and equipment. The control of the robot is done using open source software, allowing the planning of trajectories in the Cartesian space on a maximum designed cylindrical workspace of 300mm in diameter by 300mm high. At the end of the work the robot was identified, the kinematic model was validated and considerations for future works were given.

This critical approach study examines the social and environmental disclosure (SED) between Sustainability Reporting (SR) and Integrated Reporting (IR) among European companies. The research question is to examine the integration level of SED within SR and IR. Applying the critical text analysis method, the GRI G3 guidelines were used to examine a sample of ten European companies. The reports for the selected companies must incorporate fully applied IR without producing any more SR in order to analyse the validity of the data. This study has discovered that there is less integration of SED in IR than SR. It is apparent that the IR approach is more towards the primary groups (investors) rather than other stakeholders, society and the environment as a whole. Hence, IR is only a mirror of sustainability for business strategy. Therefore, IR needs to engage reports with other stakeholders to sustain long-term growth.

This article aims to frame the role of Systemic Design (SD) as an alternative design model for the future of design for sustainability, by defining and assessing a structured process to execute Holistic Diagnosis (HD), an innovative context framework. Taking as its background a deep understanding of the design for sustainability and systems thinking concepts that frame SD as a field where HD is rooted, multiple case-study analyses were performed. HD demonstrates its ability to overcome the design boundaries in different fields such as industrial production, local communities, and policy-making, thereby providing a more in-depth understanding of complex environments with an iterative process: assess, research, collect, visualize, and interpret. This framework is a relevant tool for designers to address problem framing in complex scenarios to obtain future sustainable solutions with an innovative and transdisciplinary approach, thereby promoting a horizontal dialogue among all involved components.

Purpose In the past years, many contributions have been published addressing frugal innovation and other types of resource-constrained innovations in the management field. Throughout this paper frugal innovation is reported as a phenomenon, concept, research field and strategy, showing the different ways the literature refers to it and how scattered the concept is. However, based on the understanding, the authors decided to address frugal innovation as a kind of innovation strategy that helps companies to innovate in resource-constrained environments. Therefore, considering the increasing interest in the frugal innovation topic and adding the perspective of business strategy for resource-constrained conditions, the research question addressed in this paper is: what are the main features of the frugal innovation literature that unfold its current perspectives for business strategy? In this sense, the purpose of this study is to analyze the scientific production in frugal innovation through a literature mapping and review to better understand it, delimiting different perspectives and creating boundaries to other business strategies or approaches. Design/methodology/approach The authors performed a co-citation analysis using the Vosviewer software to notice how authors are arranged in clusters based on their understanding of the topic. Furthermore, the authors also performed a systematic literature review (SLR) analyzing the extant literature on frugal innovation based on the clusters found through the co-citation method. The final sample used in the study included 42 papers published between 2011 and 2019, using the Web of Science platform as a data source. Findings By means of SLR, the findings of this study provided a more organized view of frugal innovation through the co-citation analysis and the qualitative analysis of the clusters, which were the basis for the parameters established. After the conceptualization of frugal innovation strategy (FIS) and the delimitation of boundaries of FIS, the authors bring the reflections about the contribution to the literature and the practice (managers and society) by showing three assumptions to be tested and confirmed in future studies and a framework to guide companies in search of a FIS. Originality/value This study contributes to the discussion on frugal innovation moving a step forward to clarify the research field on this subject providing the main characteristics for researchers and practitioners. The paper has delimited the boundaries of FIS. The assumptions established in the discussion can become hypotheses for empirical studies. In addition, the authors explain why, what is, where and to whom the FIS can be developed and applied. Furthermore, the authors contribute by developing the FIS framework, with four strategic positions based on the boundaries of FIS organized by the complexity technological level. The strategic positions are frugal innovation orientation (FIO), FIO to value shared, FIO to market and FIS.

One of the considerable challenges in the design of cementitious mixtures for additive manufacturing/three-dimensional (3D) printing applications is achieving both suitable fresh properties and significant mechanical strengths. This paper presents the use of graphene oxide (GO) as a promising nano reinforcement material with the potential to improve the printing feasibility and quality of a 3D printed cementitious matrix. Additionally, in this study, a viscosity modifying agent (VMA) was employed as a chemical additive to attain the required consistency and flow. The printed mixture was fabricated using various cementitious materials and waste materials. This study investigated the impact of GO and VMA on the enhancement of the 3D printing of cementitious composites through several tests. A flow test was conducted using the flow table test. The results showed a high fluidity and practical consistency, which are essential for nozzle pumping and accurateness in printed shapes. Furthermore, the bleeding test showed minimal bleeding up to hardening, and a considerable self-cleaning ability was noted during handling when conducting examinations of fresh properties. For hardened properties, the mechanical strengths were exceptionally high, especially at early ages, which is crucial for the stability of sequence layers of printed composites. The tensile strengths were 3.77, 10.5, 13.35, and 18.83 MPa at 1, 3, 7, and 28 days, respectively, and the compressive strengths were 25.1, 68.4, 85.6, and 125.4 MPa at 1, 3, 7, and 28 days, respectively. The test results showed the effectiveness of the fabricated cementitious mixture design method for meeting the requirements for 3D concrete printing applications.
