Group tutorials are becoming an ever-increasing learning methodology in University education due to the continuous knowledge feedback among students. Despite the positive impact of such kind of sessions on students, their previous organization phase remains most of the times misleading. The traditional way of arranging a group tutorial through e-mail normally results in a long and ineffective method mainly caused by the different schedule availability between the professor and the different students. Is in this context where Doodle arises as a virtual application to enhance this first group tutorial phase. Generally, Doodle allows users to schedule meetings in a quick, effective and free way: the organizer creates a new meeting, proposes different schedule options and invites the other participants through an e-mail invitation or a link created by Doodle. Then, participants vote for the schedule options that best fit their availability, so that the final meeting schedule is selected democratically. In the University context, professors would play the role of organizers and students of participants, respectively. In this paper, we analyze the application of Doodle in the organization of a group tutorial of students of Electrical Circuits from the Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering (Polytechnic University of Valencia). Particularly, the tutorial was formed by six students and the professor, and took place in the Department of Electrical Engineering. After the meeting, the students answered a survey. Their answers reveled the positive acceptance of Doodle among them in terms of efficiency and ease of use. 100% of them agree on its suitability for arranging future group tutorials. Moreover, a comparative study demonstrated that using Doodle instead of e-mail while arranging a group tutorial leads to an average of up to 64% reduction in process time.

Abstract In the time of the COVID-19 pandemic the importance of distance learning is being enhanced, while formal, full-time, face-to-face university education is being converted to distance learning. The study explores the role of the Universities in distance learning market and reveals the factors that influence the students’ university choice. The regional embeddedness of higher education in the Western Transdanubian region is analysed, highlighting the catchment areas of the region’s universities. The educational commuting of distance learning students to the region increases purchasing power, has a positive impact on the rental market, the labour market and can boost future settlement. Commuting, university selection and training selection behaviours of correspondence and distance training of students is examined using questionnaires. The aim is to establish whether the university selection of correspondence training students is influenced by distance and by the characteristics of the student‘s place of residence. The findings show that distance is one of the main factors during the university-selection process in the case of any kind of distance learning.

This article presents the results of the interdisciplinary collaboration of the authors, from their fields of research, to reflect on the guidelines of the three substantive functions of the university: training, research and extension, linked these last two with the social projection, to support the design of an architectural observatory at the Antonio Nari- ño University, Villavicencio headquarters, under the premise that a research scenario of this type, in addition to linking these functions offers a series of conditions and benefits in terms of the demands of university education and the role of the university in society.

Purpose This study aims to focus on the University of Aegean’s non-academic staff’s environmental sustainability attitudes and behavior both at work and at home, their perceptions for sustainability enforcement and their active participation skills. Design/methodology/approach The research participants were the 101 non-academic staff working at the Xenia Hill campus in Lesvos island. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire consisting of 45 questions, which was sent via e-mail during the summer of 2014. Findings The analysis of the results brings light on the environmental profile of the University’s non-academic staff on their intentions for greening their campus and the barriers that obstruct their attempts to promote sustainability at the University. Originality/value The paper provides useful insights which allow a better understanding of the role of non-academic staff’s environmental sustainability attitudes and behavior both at work and at home, their perceptions for sustainability enforcement and their active participation skills.

The article provides an overview of foreign and national research on the possibilities of using cognitive management in the educational environment of higher education institution. The authors emphasize the potential of cognitive management principles application in the educational organization, the direct correlation between cognitive management tasks and the general purposes of educational process. The possible approaches to knowledge management in educational organization are described. The authors dwell on the general methodological, economic and functional aspects of cognitive management at the university, argue that the value-communicative essence of university education enables to manage the knowledge base of the university. On the example of Ukhta State Technical University the article considers the possibilities of students’ project activity and project self-government. Firstly, it ensures the increment and intensification of the value-communicative flow of knowledge within the University and in its interaction with the external environment. Secondly, it fosters students to master the role of a cognitive manager. Thirdly, it encourages students to develop their meta-abilities which can be viewed as a form of cognitive management outcomes in higher educational institution.

In a knowledge-based economy, and a context of fierce international competition that spares no field. universities as organizations highly dependent on knowledge should pay special attention to it and its management, in such a way that the effective management of this asset is a key factor in building a competitive advantage and became the cornerstone of efforts to improve the performance of the university. In addition, it has long been demonstrated that better knowledge management has a positive impact on organizational performance. However, it is not yet clear how this process is to be achieved in academia and particularly in developing countries such as Morocco. On the other hand, and throughout the literature, several factors affect positively KM initiatives in public organizations and more specifically in universities are discussed. Some of these are the same as those found for private organizations and others are specific to public organizations. Most authors cite the organizational structure. This work has the main objective to verify the moderating role of organizational structure on the intensity of the relationship between the application of knowledge management and organizational performance of Abdelmalek Essaadi University. by collecting the views of the Abdelmalek Essaadi University teacher-researchers, through a hypothetico-deductive reasoning approach and a quantitative working method. Our questionnaire was administered to a representative sample of 88 teacher-researchers from the different institutions of the university under study. The results obtained prove the moderating and positive role of organizational structure, on the intensity of the relationship between the application of the K.M and (Training, research, publication, and governance) as indicators of organizational performance with a degree of impact of 1.1%.

Purpose of the study: An individual’s support for change is a critical factor in successfully and effectively implementing change. Therefore, identifying possible antecedents and mechanisms leading to one’s behavioral support for change is necessary. The study aims to unpack this avenue of research empirically by examining the role of both person and context as factors in promoting behavioral support for change. Methodology: Data was collected from 292 academic staff members of six public sector universities in Pakistan via cross-sectional means. A self-reported questionnaire was used to collect responses from the desired sample. SPSS 25 and AMOS were used to analyze the data for its relevance to the objectives of the study.  Main Findings: Results revealed a positive impact of change-efficacy on academic staff members’ behavioral support for change. Moreover, change-valence provides an effective intervening mechanism to translate the effect of change-efficacy on both dimensions of behavioral support for change, that is, compliance and championing behavior. Research limitations/implications: The study contributes to the existing literature on organizational change, particularly in the university setting, by examining and empirically validating the factors of both person and context as significant predictors of behavioral support for change among academic staff. However, more research is needed in other organizational and work contexts to further apply the study’s implications within these diverse contexts. Novelty/Originality of this study: The study offers useful insights for senior university officials intending to build support for change by enhancing academic staff levels of efficacy and positive expectations regarding such change and enables them to successfully execute the change-related tasks into viable actions.

It is natural for scientists, public figures, university professors and other higher education institutions, trustees of educa-tional districts, ministers of public education, statesmen, etc. to show interest in the so-called “university issue” in the conditions of formation and development of domestic university education in the XIX – the early XX century. Particularly heated discussions on this problem arise at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, when the activities of universities were regulatedby the reactionary statute of 1884. Many well-known progressives (V. Vernadskyi, M. Pyrohov, I. Sechenov, K. Timiriaziev, Ye. Tru-betskoi, S. Trubetskoi, P. Fortunatov, O. Shvarts and others) advocated the expansion of university rights, and the idea of an au-tonomous independent university became key. The position of supporters of the independence of universities was manifested in the relevant appeals. Thus, in 1899, ten professors submitted a note to the Minister of Education, which referred to the humiliating role of teachers, defined by regula-tions. In 1905, 342 scholars prepared for publication in the journal “Herald of Europe” a special document “Note on the needs of education”, which spoke about the progress of scientific progress through the efforts of domestic scientists and the inappro-priate attitude of the authorities to such achievements. Numerous publications show interest in the university issue. For example, O. Posnikov, V. Sobolevskyi, O. Chuprov substantiate the effectiveness of university autonomy in the columns of the periodical “Russian Gazette”. K. Timiriaziev in his own collection of articles “Science and Democracy” advocates the principle of academic freedom. P. Struve in the preface to O. Heorhiievskyi’s book “A Brief Essay on Government Measures and Predictions Against Student Riots” reflects on human rights violations in universities, the oppression of the rights of teachers and students. V. Vernadskyi writes in the article “On the Professorial Congress” about the importance of creating an “Association for Achieving Academic Freedom and Improving the Conditions of Academic Life”. The study made it possible to state a great interest in the “university question” at the turn of the XIX–XX centuries. Note that this problem is related to the conceptual “idea of the university”, which is interpreted as a combination of the whole set of knowledge and ideas about the university: goals, objectives, principles, structure, functions, internal and external relations,place and role in society at a certain specific historical stage.

Introduction. The article covers history waypoints of the corporate culture, tradition, emblems of Volgograd State University, its corporate ideology and the role of the University in the regional community. The author enlightens the activity and responsibility of the rector department and faculties in terms of the development of the University as region’s leader of science, education and culture. Methods and materials. The principles of historicism and objectivity were used as a methodological base of the research. The study is based on scientific papers on the role of university education in modern society and corporate cultural space in the university community. Analysis. The core activity and focused informational work of the University has allowed to form its positive image. Special attention is paid to the appearance of higher education institutions in the region and the establishment of Volgograd State University. The author studies the contribution of the University to the social-economic, public and cultural sphere of region’s life. Results. The main conclusion of the article is that nowadays classic university education leads to forming the social elite, increases the level of education and culture in the regional community. The program of transforming Volgograd State University into the University Centre of innovative, technological and social development of the region allows to reach success for not only the University, but for the whole region.

The study aims at identifying the awareness of female college students about the values ​​of citizenship in Islamic educational thought and the role of colleges of education in strengthening them, The study used the descriptive approach, and the study sample included a random size of (500) female students by 100 students from each university, and the study tool included four axes, the first axis dealt with the awareness of the value of Arab-Islamic culture, and the second axis dealt with the awareness of the importance of the Arabic language, and the third axis dealt with Awareness of the importance of religious events. The fourth axis dealt with the role of colleges of education, as well as relying on arithmetic averages in addition to analyzing multiple variances. All statistical treatments were done using the SPSS (v12) statistical program. The results of the field study showed that the students are very aware of the values ​​of citizenship as well as the role of the colleges of education, as all the averages approached the great end for each dimension, and the results also showed there are no statistically significant differences in the level of students’ awareness of the values ​​of citizenship and the role of colleges of education depending on the variables of the university and the division and interaction between them. In light of the results, the study made some recommendations, including that student activities must be characterized by diversity, with the participation of the largest possible number of students, the curricula should include in their content the values ​​of citizenship, such as collective spirit and commitment to the standards and regulations of society, the students’ curricula should develop the principle of freedom of expression and the culture of dialogue, the university professor’s behavior must match his ideas in educational situations and the necessity of conducting similar studies on other samples such as graduate students and female students in pre-university education stages.

Universities nowadays are considered key players in the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems and, thus, may impact regional development. This chapter analyzes the role of the university as a determinant of regional economic growth in Portuguese NUTS III regions, from 2004-2017. One-step and two-step system GMM estimation results show a statistically significant and positive impact of universities upon regional growth. Moreover, the magnitude of effects is transversely stronger in the long run, which requires the need to avoid structural breaks in public actions previously initiated in the past.
