The dynamics of the five fastest growing GDP per capita economies in Asia and the EU are studied between 2010 and 2014. This time frame was selected in order to avoid the height of the 2008-2009 financial crisis, but to include the stimulus and recovery periods which occurred afterward. The intent was not to compare the recoveries or the impact of the stimulus programs. The intent was to compare the economic growth rates of the two groups and also the absolute per capita income along with five topic areas on economies including: configuration, utilization, investments, demographics, and outcomes. A total of twenty measurements are used for assessment from the World Bank databank website. The findings are that the Asian economies grew faster while the EU economies had a higher per capita income. The workforces of the Asia economies are also younger and more flexible whereas the workforces of the EU economies are older, but more educated. Discussions include the links between effective governments and economic development and the links between democracy and economic levels.

The by-products of energy industry are nowadays often affected by new limits governing the production of harmful gases discharged into the air. These stricter and stricter criteria are often met by electricity producers by changing the combustion process in thermal power plants itself. Nowadays, the SNCR (selective non-catalytic reduction) application is quite common in the combustion process in order to help reduce the nitrogen oxide emission. This article deals with the primary measures of thermal power plants, which in particular consist of a modified treatment of raw materials (coal) entering the combustion process. These primary measures then often cause the formation of fly ash with unsuitable fineness for the use in concrete according to EN 450. The paper presents the comparison of the physico-mechanical parameters of several fly ashes with a different fineness values. The primary task is to assess the impact of non-suitable granulometry in terms of EN 450 on the other physico-mechanical parameters of fly ashes sampled within the same thermal power plant. Several fly ashes produced in the Czech Republic and surrounding countries were evaluated in this way.

AbstractRecurring debates about the impact of the brain drain— the developing world's loss of human capital to more developed countries—has motivated estimation of the magnitude of the phenomenon, most recently by the World Bank. Although frequently cited as a key contributor to Africa's wanting development record, what constitutes the "brain-drain" is not always clearly defined. Today, in the absence of an accounting system, resolution of the definitional and measurement question depends on relative comparisons of measurement variants, which will identify definitional shortcomings by clarifying the merits and demerits of these variants, and thereby suggest corrective imputations. This paper compares the World Bank's approach to a chronological precedent (Dodoo 1997) to clarify the value of variant comparisons. The resultant implications for corrections are also discussed.

http://dx.doi.org/10.5902/2179460X18493Today, the world depends on an abundant amount of energy. Hence, there is a need in creating new ways of obtaining energy to boost industrial production and thereby increase the wealth of a country. Therefore, industrial growth is strongly linked to way to get clean and cheap energy. In Brazil, preferentially uses the energy from the hydroelectric plants, but these may not always generate the energy required to supply all our needs. So, we can not deny that the thermal power plants have a respectable role in power generation, complementing the energy from the hydroelectric when they go through times of low production, as in periods of drought.

The purpose of this article is to develop high-quality combined automatic control systems (ACS) for the water level in the drum of steam boilers of thermal power plants (TPPs), which can significantly improve the quality of regulation and increase the efficiency of TPPs in a wide range of load changes. To improve the quality of water level control in the drum of steam generators of nuclear power plants with a pressurized water-cooled power reactor (PWPR), it is proposed to use a combined automatic control system based on a control loop with a correcting PI-controller tuned to a symmetrical optimum, with smoothing the reference signal and device compensation of the most dangerous internal and external measurable disturbances. A technique has been developed for assessing the impact of changes in the quality characteristics of transients of combined self-propelled guns by the water level in the drum of steam boilers and steam generators on the safety, reliability, durability, and efficiency of thermal power equipment of thermal power plants. Comparison was made of direct indicators of the quality of three ACS (typical and three-pulse, digital system with an observer state, and the proposed combined ACS). The simulation results of transients of the proposed and typical three-pulse self-propelled guns confirmed the advantages of the first.
