In many decision situations, decision-makers face a kind of complex problems. In these decision-making problems, different types of fuzzy numbers are defined and, have multiple types of membership functions. So, we need a standard form to formulate uncertain numbers in the problem. Shadowed fuzzy numbers are considered granule numbers which approximate different types and different forms of fuzzy numbers. In this paper, a new ranking approach for shadowed fuzzy numbers is developed using value, ambiguity and fuzziness for shadowed fuzzy numbers. The new ranking method has been compared with other existing approaches through numerical examples. Also, the new method is applied to a hybrid multi-attribute decision making problem in which the evaluations of alternatives are expressed with different types of uncertain numbers. The comparative study for the results of different examples illustrates the reliability of the new method.

Nowadays the multi-criteria decision making is very complicated due to uncertainty, vagueness, limited sources, knowledge and time. The Decision-making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method is a widely used multi-criteria decision-making method to analyze the structure of a complex system. It is useful in analysing the cause and effect relationships between the components of the system. Fuzzy sets can be used to include uncertainty in multi-criteria decision making. Linguistic assessments of decision makers can be translated into fuzzy numbers. In this study, fuzzy numbers, intuitionistic fuzzy numbers and neutrosophic fuzzy numbers were used for the decision makers evaluations in the DEMATEL method. The aim of this study was to evaluate how different types of fuzzy numbers affect the final results. An application of risk in construction projects was selected from the literature, where seven experts used a linguistic scale to evaluate different criteria. The results showed that there are only slight differences between the weights of the criteria with regard to the type of fuzzy numbers.

In this paper, the TODIM method is used to solve the multi-attribute decision-making problem with unknown attribute weight in venture capital, and the decision information is given in the form of single-valued neutrosophic numbers. In order to consider the objectivity and subjectivity of decision-making problems reasonably, the optimal weight is obtained by combining subjective weights and objective weights. Subjective weights are given directly by decision makers. Objective weights are obtained by establishing a weight optimization model with known decision information, then this method will compare with entropy weight method. These simulation results also validate the effectiveness and reasonableness of this proposed method.

We propose a hybrid technique by merging fuzzy version of the classical technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution and decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory technique for trapezoidal fuzzy numbers, where interaction phenomena among the decision-making problem and weights are taken into account. The feasibility of this new method is demonstrated by applying it to an example.

Quality of Service (QoS) aware-based service selection problem is a multi-attribute decision making problem. In order to solve service selection problem with QoS indicators describe by different types of data, a service selection algorithm based on heterogeneous QoS model and synthetic weight (SSAoHS) is proposed. SSAoHS introduces real number, interval number and linguistic data to describe different QoS attributes, considers the subjective and objective weights wholly, and makes the final decision referring to the expectation and variance of QoS attributes after computing the synthetic scores. SSAoHS expands the traditional service selection and it is efficient and effective.

An important objective of a group decision-making problem is to determine the weights of attributes that are given by experts participating in the decision-making process. Since different decision-makers have unequal importance in decision-making, a series of studies focused on finding a set of appropriate weights for experts participating in a decision problem. In this paper, the problem of weight determination among decision-makers is investigated by extending an algorithm taken from the technique for order preference by similarity-to-ideal solution. In this case, a pair of most compromising and least compromising solutions is derived from individual judgments of decision-makers and then, these solutions are applied as the bases for determining the magnitude of individual alignment with the group opinion by using a closeness coefficient approach. Determining the weights of decision-makers, the group decision-making problem is then solved. Application of the proposed method is illustrated by a numerical example for the selection of a maintenance strategy.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to extend the PROMETHEE method under typical hesitant fuzzy information for solving multi-attribute decision-making problem in which there is hesitancy among experts. Design/methodology/approach Different aggregation and distance functions were developed to deal with HFS. But it is rational that different operators applying in existing methods can produce different results. Also, it is difficult for decision makers to select suitable operators. To address the drawback, this paper develops the PROMETHEE method as an outranking approach to accommodate hesitant fuzzy information. Since the proposed method is constructed on the basis of the pair-wise comparisons, it is independent of the aggregation and distance functions. Findings To demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method, the authors provide a numerical example and a comparative analysis. The results indicate that outranking-based methods suggest a better ranking than the aggregation- and distance-based methods. Research limitations/implications The proposed approach does not consider the hesitant fuzzy linguistic information decision-making problem. Practical implications The proposed approach can be applied in many group decision-making problems in which there is hesitancy among experts. Originality/value This paper proposes an extension on PROMETHEE method under hesitant fuzzy information, which has not been reported in the existing academic literature.

Decision making takes into account a myriad of factors about the future topics, which often prove challenging and quite complicated. Multiple Attribute Decision-Making (MADM) methods still have not become powerful enough to help decision makers to adopt the best solutions regarding future issues. Different scenarios are suitable for developing an appropriate outlook toward different probable futures. Scenarios are not inherently quantitative, but recently different integrated quantitative methods have been incorporated with the processes in various studies. Previously, different types of scenario-based MADM methods have been presented in different studies, but they just considered each case separately. In those studies, MADM methods were only applied to evaluate the situation in scenario-based MADM. This research concentrates on another paradigm in applying scenarios to upcoming events, MADM methods in the new area are explored, and the concept, which is called MADM based scenarios, is presented. In different situations and scenarios, different MADM models will happen. New concepts about most useful criterion and applicable alternatives are introduced in this new approach for decision-making about the future. In addition, a general framework is proposed for applying MADM-based scenarios for unpredictable scenarios and situations, which can be almost controlled future in practice.

Neutrosophic cubic set (NCS) can process complex information by combining interval neutrosophic set and single-valued neutrosophic set. It can simultaneously describe the uncertain and certain part of information. Prospect theory (PT) is based on bounded rationality and can reflect decision maker’s different risk attitudes to gains and losses. Measurement of Alternatives and Ranking according to COmpromise Solution (MARCOS) method can measure and rank the alternatives according to compromise solution. Considering the bounded rationality of decision makers and compromise solution of alternatives, this paper combines the PT with MARCOS method to neutrosophic cubic environment to solve multi-attribute decision-making problem. First, the theoretical basis of NCS is introduced. Second, the PT and MARCOS method are combined. To reflect subjective views of decision makers and the objectivity of decision-making information, this paper uses geometric average method to combine subjective weights (calculated by the best-worst method) and objective weights (calculated ed by the entropy method). Then, the PT-MARCOS method is applied to a decision-making problem. Further,a sensitivity analysis is conducted to study the influence of different attenuation factor values and different expectation coefficient on the ranking; and through comparative analysis to illustrate the superiority of the PT-MARCOS method. Finally is the conclusion.
