‘Post-truth’ was not a new concept when it was selected as the international word of the year (2016) by Oxford Dictionaries. In the context of communications research, scholars were discussing journalism in the ‘post-factual’ age some thirty years ago (Ettema 1987). In the digital era, journalistic practice itself has changed; stories are generated by a multiplicity of actors in a participative and interactive way. This paper contemplates the nature of journalists’ information practices in the 21st century and relates these to the roles of information and social media in civil society. The methodology draws on the findings of pilot research studies investigating journalists’ information practices in the digital realm (Martin 2014; 2015) and investigates the pressures of verification. The author posits that that we are ostensibly living in a ‘post-truth’ society largely due to the impact of changes in the news milieu in the digital age. With so many diverse voices in the mix, it is increasingly difficult for citizens to separate fact from fiction; journalists thus have a role as verifiers. It is crucial for information consumers (citizenry) to have the requisite skills and knowledge to critically evaluate media content and deal with information and communication overload.

Currently the development of children is the center of attention for families and schools, where at this time technology or social media in the current digital era has a very good and bad impact on children if parents and teachers do not monitor children in using social media. the impact of the misuse of technology, it must continue to guide children. Education in schools is very helpful for the growth and development of children. Because children who receive education at school understand more about some of the things that can be learned at school and children's behavior is more functional because it is shaped by observation and influenced by what they get. When parents or teachers educate children well, the child's association will be better. Because nowadays, especially the use of technology or social media, it really has an impact on children.

Various studies in the information technology revealed that there has been a change in the trend of internet use in recent years. Internet users in the world prefer to spend time accessing the internet through the social media. Social media with a variety of platforms provides special communities with their own uniqueness and allows users to share lots of content. The members involves creates a new social community with various phenomena, both positive and negative. Counselors in the millennium era are required to have the insight andknowledge that is qualified to deal with the well being conditions of individuals from activities in social media. Counselors are also required to have specific skills in providing handling with the condition of well being individuals related to the impact of activities on social media.

This article addresses the impact of the digital era and it specifically refers to information and communication technologies (ICT) in Public Administration. It is based on the international approach and underscores the importance of incorporating new technologies established by the United Nations and the Organization of American States. Thereon, it highlights the Argentine Republic national approach towards ICT, and how it has moved towards a digital paradigm. It then emphasizes on the challenges and opportunities that emerge from the impact that artificial intelligence has in transforming Public Administration. Finally, it concludes that the key challenge of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is to achieve a boost towards a Digital and Intelligent Administration and government, which promotes the effectiveness of rights and an inclusive technological development that assures the digital dignity of people.

This chapter presents the experience of civil society organizations in Colombia to improve the transparency of the municipalities’ administrations through the project ‘Internet for Accountability’ developed by Colnodo in partnership with Corporation Transparency for Colombia. Within this initiative, a website for municipalities was developed and afterwards improved and expanded by the Territorial e-government Strategy (GELT) and implemented by the Connectivity Agenda of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies. The chapter begins by describing the current situation of the municipalities’ websites and how they have been expanded with the support of the GELT strategy. Subsequently, presents the consultation carried out with the municipalities in order to find out the impact and usage of the websites on citizens’ participation and accountability. Finally, presents the conclusions based on the experience of the organizations involved and the information gathered during the consultation.

Information and communication technologies (ICT) along with the internet have fueled advancements and growth in banking, transportation, economics, and most of all in education in the 21st century. The 21st century citizens are provided with new opportunities that have been created with the advancement of ICT. Hence, individuals need a wide range of abilities, competencies, and skills to adapt to the technological era. This paper provides a literature review of the growing importance of ICT, its wide array of usage, and its influence on various facets of people's daily lives. In addition, the emerging concept of digital literacy through ICT developments, contribution of digital literacy towards the achievement of sustainable development goals, contribution of ICT towards the development of various sectors particularly the education sector, and the work done in this area of digital literacy are summarised. The paper concludes with three new models of digital literacy: four gear model, model for flexible learning, and a model showing the impact of ICT on the learning process.

In this modern and blooming age of technology, tourism along with many other aspects of life are highly impacted by IT industry, especially the social media aspect, where everything is judged and interpreted. It is way simpler nowadays to find reviews online, with pictures included, about everything tourism-related such as places, museums, hotels, restaurants, even the locals. The impact of online information and personal opinions of people about destinations can be very influencing for different types of possible tourists in choosing their vacation or week-end getaway especially now in the growing age of social media, where users share every aspect of their lives, travelling included. We take a look at the various ramifications that computer science has over tourism in general and how it can be of use to the traveler of the 21st century via its many ways of digital interconnection.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effect of information and communication technology (ICT) on real estate agency transactions with a view to determine its influence on the performance of estate agents. Design/methodology/approach A research approach in which questionnaire was administered to elicit relevant information from 220 practicing Estate Surveyors and Valuers surveyed in the course of the study. Data collected were analysed using mean ranking, relative influence index and analysis of variance. Findings The results showed that the use of ICT impacted positively on real estate agency transactions by promoting company’s brand thereby increasing the level of patronage. Consequently, the increased level of patronage signifies an increase in the level of income of the agents. Research limitations/implications The study was limited to social media applications otherwise referred to as ICT, which are used in real estate agency transactions. Further study on other ICT media and their effects on more areas of real estate practice in the developing economy may be required. Originality/value This paper is one of the few works on the impact of ICT on real estate agency transactions with particular reference to the social media networking especially in an emerging economy. Most of the previous studies conducted on ICT and real estate focussed only on internet use with respect to real estate agents and practices.

This article describes the concept of digitizing da'wah based on visual communication design. The advancement of information and communication technology disrupts various aspects of life including how to preach the da'i. This is both a challenge and an opportunity for preachers to develop da'wa media that are relevant to today's civilization. One of the concepts offered is a visual communication design. This design concept is very relevant to today's conditions (digital era) and can be a reference for preachers, especially for packaging creative and interesting da'wah content on various social media platforms. This article is enriched with literature studies to clarify the concept of visual communication and its relation to da'wah. The observation technique is used to provide an overview of the portrait of visual communication design which is applied in the preaching of Facebook, YouTube, and the website. As a result, there are four social media that can be used as a media for preaching based on visual communication, namely, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and YouTube. Furthermore, there are three forms of digital communication based on visual communication that is widely used in social media, namely da'wah posters, da'wah cartoons, and da'wah videos.

BACKGROUND Social media use continues to gain momentum in academic neurosurgery. To increase journal impact and broaden engagement, many scholarly publications have turned to social media to disseminate research. The Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group (JNSPG) established a dedicated, specialized social media team (SMT) in November 2016 to provide targeted improvement in digital outreach. OBJECTIVE The goal of this study was to examine the impact of the JNSPG SMT as measured by increased engagement. METHODS We analyzed various metrics, including impressions, engagements, retweets, likes, profile clicks, and URL clicks, from consecutive social media posts from the JNSPG’s Twitter and Facebook platforms between February 1, 2015 and February 28, 2019. Standard descriptive statistics were utilized. RESULTS Between February 2015 and October 2016, when a specialized SMT was created, 170 tweets (8.1 tweets/month) were posted compared to 3220 tweets (115.0 tweets/month) between November 2016 and February 2019. All metrics significantly increased, including the impressions per tweet (mean 1646.3, SD 934.9 vs mean 4605.6, SD 65,546.5; <i>P</i>=.01), engagements per tweet (mean 35.2, SD 40.6 vs mean 198.2, SD 1037.2; <i>P</i>&lt;.001), retweets (mean 2.5, SD 2.8 vs mean 10.5, SD 15.3; <i>P</i>&lt;.001), likes (mean 2.5, SD 4.0 vs mean 18.0, SD 37.9; <i>P</i>&lt;.001), profile clicks (mean 1.5, SD 2.0 vs mean 5.2, SD 43.3; <i>P</i>&lt;.001), and URL clicks (mean 13.1, SD 14.9 vs mean 38.3, SD 67.9; <i>P</i>&lt;.001). Tweets that were posted on the weekend compared to weekdays had significantly more retweets (mean 9.2, SD 9.8 vs mean 13.4, SD 25.6; <i>P</i>&lt;.001), likes (mean 15.3, SD 17.9 vs mean 23.7, SD 70.4; <i>P</i>=.001), and URL clicks (mean 33.4, SD 40.5 vs mean 49.5, SD 117.3; <i>P</i>&lt;.001). Between November 2015 and October 2016, 49 Facebook posts (2.3 posts/month) were sent compared to 2282 posts (81.5 posts/month) sent between November 2016 and February 2019. All Facebook metrics significantly increased, including impressions (mean 5475.9, SD 5483.0 vs mean 8506.1, SD 13,113.9; <i>P</i>&lt;.001), engagements (mean 119.3, SD 194.8 vs mean 283.8, SD 733.8; <i>P</i>&lt;.001), and reach (mean 2266.6, SD 2388.3 vs mean 5344.1, SD 8399.2; <i>P</i>&lt;.001). Weekend Facebook posts had significantly more impressions per post (mean 7967.9, SD 9901.0 vs mean 9737.8, SD 19,013.4; <i>P</i>=.03) and a higher total reach (mean 4975.8, SD 6309.8 vs mean 6108.2, SD 12,219.7; <i>P</i>=.03) than weekday posts. CONCLUSIONS Social media has been established as a crucial tool for the propagation of neurosurgical research and education. Implementation of the JNSPG specialized SMT had a demonstrable impact on increasing the online visibility of social media content.

Abstract The public’s actions will likely have a significant effect on the course of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Human behavior is conditioned and shaped by information and perceptions of people. This study investigated the impact of risk perception on trust in government and self-efficacy. It examined whether the use of social media helps people adopt preventative actions during the pandemic. To test this hypothesis, data were gathered from 512 individuals (students and academicians) who were based in Malaysia during COVID-19. Our results suggested that risk perception had a significant effect on trust in government and self-efficacy. Moreover, these correlations were stronger when social media was used as a source for gathering information on COVID-19, and in some cases it even helped the user avoid being exposed to the virus. This study assessed the relationship between risk perception and the awareness gained from using social media during the pandemic and also highlighted how social media usage influences trust in government and self-efficacy.
