Abstract. The expansion of data collection from remote sensing and other geographic data sources, as well as from other technology such as cloud, sensors, mobile, and social media, have made mapping and analysis more complex. Some geospatial applications continue to rely on conventional geospatial processing, where limitation on computation capabilities often lacking to attain significant data interpretation. In recent years, GPU processing has improved far more GIS applications than using CPU alone. As a result, numerous researchers have begun utilising GPUs for scientific, geometric, and database computations in addition to graphics hardware use. This paper summarizes parallel processing concept and architecture, the development of GPU geoprocessing for big geodata ranging from remote sensing and 3D modelling to smart cities studies. This paper also addresses the GPU future trends advancement opportunities with other technologies, machine learning, deep learning, and cloud-based computing.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Digital India program aims to transform India into a knowledge economy with Smart Cities / Smart Villages etc. It depends significantly on Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). It requires enormous computing Infrastructure and RS-GIS trained professionals along with Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Satellite based Earth Observation (EO) data volumes are increasing at a rate of several Terabytes a Day in heterogeneous formats (different spatial and temporal resolutions in optical, thermal and microwave). The recent trends towards free and open access policy creates unprecedented opportunities for both industrial and academic research communities for Big Data applications.</p><p>During the last decade, Engineering Institutions across the nation have improved significantly in terms of high end computing, Wi-Fi campuses and qualified faculty to help students. Agricultural Universities/Colleges are also making extensive use of RS-GIS technology. Many research papers are also being published by students from Engineering / Agricultural Institutions in the domain of RS–GIS. Here lies the scope for enhanced collaboration between ISRO / Industry and Academia in the form of Student Remote Sensing and Geospatial programme (SRSGP) for scaling up operational services to sustain Digital India and boost the <i>Geospatial Readiness Index of the nation</i>. It will expand the hands-on experience of the student community and enrich their job-readiness in the industry and lead to development of trained RS-GIS professionals. It has the potential to make Digital India the global destination for RS-GIS applications similar to how Y-2K made India the global IT-destination.</p>

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The ISPRS Geospatial Week 2019 is a combination of 13 workshops organised by 30 ISPRS Working Groups active in areas of interest of ISPRS. The Geospatial Week 2019 is held from 10–14 June 2019, and is convened by the University of Twente acting as local organiser. They cover topics like UAV photogrammetry, laser scanning, spatial data quality, scene understanding, hyperspectral imaging, and crowd sourcing and collaborative mapping with applications ranging from indoor mapping and smart cities to global cryosphere and hydrosphere studies and planetary mapping.</p><p>In total 143 full papers and 357 extended abstracts were submitted by authors from 63 countries. 1250 reviews have been delivered by 295 reviewers. A total of 81 full papers have been accepted for the volume IV-2/W5 of the International Annals of Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences. Another 289 papers are published in volume XLII-2/W13 of the International Archives of Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences.</p><p>The editors would like to thank all contributing authors, reviewers and all workshop organizers for their role in preparing and organizing the Geospatial Week 2019. Abstract. In this paper, we propose a methodology for designing data lake dedicated to Spatial Data and an implementation of this specific framework. Inspired from previous proposals on general data lake Design and based on the Geographic information – Metadata normalization (ISO 19115), the contribution presented in this paper integrates, with the same philosophy, the spatial and thematic dimensions of heterogeneous data (remote sensing images, textual documents and sensor data, etc). To support our proposal, the process has been implemented in a real data project in collaboration with Montpellier Métropole Méditerranée (3M), a metropolis in the South of France. This framework offers a uniform management of the spatial and thematic information embedded in the elements of the data lake.

Geographical information systems (GIS) are the systems that store location-based data and analyze them. GIS originated from the conventional cartographic techniques of simply drawing maps with a pencil and board. Following the adoption of computer technology, GIS further evolved as a geo-referenced dynamic information system, which can today be considered as a multi-disciplinary instrument that links different disciplines like geography, computer science, remote sensing, civil engineering, statistics, marketing, and other social and behavioral sciences. In this chapter, GIS is defined and its importance and functions are described in detail. Usage of GIS in marketing is explained, especially its development in marketing theory. Also, the value and scope of GIS in tourism management with a view to understand the spread of GIS applications in tourism is explored.

The internet of things (IoT) is expected to influence both architecture and infrastructure of current and future smart cities vision. Thus, the requirement and effectiveness of making cities smarter demands suitable provision of secure and efficient communication networks between IoT networking devices. Trust-based routing protocols play an important role in IoT for secure information exchange and communications between IoT networking elements. Thus, this chapter presents the foundation of trust-based protocols from social science to IoT for secure smart city environments. The chapter outlines and discusses the key ideas, notions, and theories that may help the reader to understand the current status and the possible future trends of trust-based protocols in IoT networks for smart cities. The chapter also discusses the implications, requirements, and future research challenges of trust-based protocols in IoT for smart cities.

Remote sensing refers to the acquisition of information at a distance. More specifically, it has come to mean using aerial photographs or sensors on satellites to gather data about features on the surface of the earth. In this article, remote sensing and related concepts are defined and the methods used in gathering and processing remotely sensed imagery are discussed. The evolution of remote sensing, generic applications and major sources of remotely sensed imagery and programs used in processing and analyzing remotely sensed imagery are presented. Then the application of remote sensing in warfare and counterterrorism is discussed in general terms with a number of specific examples of successes and failures in this particular area. Next, the potential for misuse of the increasing amount of high resolution imagery available over the Internet is discussed along with prudent countermeasures to potential abuses of this data. Finally, future trends with respect to this rapidly evolving technology are included.
