The aim of this research is to giving an illustrate about the chance of Kertajati Airport as International hub of logistic in West Java. Kertajati Airport which is located in Majalengka one of the distric in West Java, have a good possibility to become a center point for international air traffic and logistic, refer to its strategic location as crossing point for two seaport in Cirebon, Port Muara Jati and Port Patimban. In term of geographical point of view, this should be a good chance for government and authorities to take advantages by managing the operation of those airports: Kertajati, Husein Sastranegara, Halim Perdanakusuma, Soekarno-Hatta and surrounding seaports like Port Muara Jati and Port Patimban in integrated method. The integrated operation which necessarily supported by high accessibility and good infrastructure can generate economic growth indeed by giving opportunity for small and medium enterprises around to increase their products, whether for domestic or international markets. This also can afford escalation on dynamics trades and investments in West Java. Therefore Kertajati Airport could be considered as an alternative solution for traffic jam and over capacity problem, in the context of cargo shipping at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

The extraordinary development of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) allows for innovative relationships among enterprises, organised in extended networks and regardless of their location. In this scenario, Large Enterprises can re-organise their traditional supply chains (generally formed by Small and Medium Enterprises) according to VIrtual Vertical Enterprise concepts and methodology, in order to obtain: (1) better control of subcontractors activities; (2) cost and delivery time reduction; (3) decrease of subcontractors number.

In China, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) play a crucial role in economic development and social wealth in terms of GDP growth, employment creation and poverty alleviation. In the age of technology and information, innovation has been regarded as one of the most significant drivers for the growth and prosperity of SMEs. Therefore, it is necessary for SMEs to implement innovation strategy, which would help them to initiate new products, adopt new processes and increase their competitiveness. From this point of view, this study attempts to identify the innovation situation of Chinese SMEs with regard to innovation type as well as innovation strategy. The research data is collected through structured questionnaires and semi-structured interviews from SMEs of manufacturing industry in Shanghai, China. According to the data results, process innovation and marketing innovation are adopted more frequently than product innovation and organizational innovation by Chinese SMEs. This study also demonstrates most SMEs in China implement free-riding strategy; some of them adopt niche strategy; and few SMEs practice cluster strategy. Although innovation is increasingly important for Chinese SMEs, their implementation of innovation strategy is not highly effective and successful.

This chapter analyzes the role of local area resources in the global hospitality market as a way for small and medium enterprises to create a portfolio of distinctive resources to reach a sustainable competitive advantage position in the international markets. After a brief introduction on the tourism industry and its main change factors the chapter adopts a resource base and market-driven approach in order to identify resources role in shaping competitive advantages. The chapter discuss a case-study on a successful example of diffused hotel in Abruzzo, Italy, identifying the core resources and those needed to support them in creating a successful tourism product.

This study provides a deep understanding of the current status of electronic networks in the Jordanian handicrafts sector from managers’ perspectives. More specifically, this study enhances utilisation of the e-environment to gain market share in local, regional, and international markets. Four cases of handicraft projects are selected to conduct face to face interviews. The results show that handicraft projects have initial attempts to use E-electronic in their activities, but these attempts are still in embryonic stages, and they do not use E-networks effectively to gain market share. However, project managers believe that there is a direct link between the use of electronic networks and increases in the business’s market share. Furthermore, it is intended that these initiatives be treated as innovative and at the end utilised to enhance the business development of similar enterprises belonging to the small and medium enterprises sector. The study recommends that such projects consider adoption of e-networks in their future plans, enhance their staff skills in terms of improving their IT and English language skills, and develop their own internet website to create new marketing channels.

In a dynamic and competitive world, understanding the knowledge, skills and competences that managers of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) require is an important endeavour, to ensure that both academic and business training institutions offer well formed programs/courses and curricula. Several studies, conducted by academic researchers and business associations around the world, focused on identifying managers’ skills and competences, but there isn’t an overall perspective on today’s requirements of European SME managers. This is a critical aspect because managers’ competences strongly influence enterprises’ competitiveness and, therefore, the economic competitiveness of countries themselves. To help overcome this problem, the authors conducted a study in six European countries through a literature review and several interviews with business associations’ executives. The result is a list of 34 competences, which the authors organized in four categories: personal; team management; business; and technical. These competences are presented and discussed in this chapterand show that an SME manager should be well prepared in a rich set of complementary areas to perform her/his job. The findings enable a better understanding of the profile of SME managers from the point of view of required competences, and may help in the design of new training programs to fulfil the identified needs.

Objective - This research aims to test the effect of productivity and innovation toward competitiveness of batik SMEs in West Java. Methodology/Technique - The study uses Partial Least Square (PLS) for data analysis, as well as an explanatory method and simple random sampling. Findings - The results of the data testing show that competitiveness is effected by productivity and innovation by 71.7%. Novelty - The objective of this study is to analyse the gap in productivity and innovation and its effect on the competitiveness of batik SMEs in West Java Indonesia. Batik centre in West Java was developed by the government in collaboration with the private sector to increase the level of production of batik SMEs. In reality, there is a gap in productivity between written batik and stamped batik. Written batik design innovations and production methods need to be improved to compete and survive in the batik industry. Porter (1995:5) describes competition as the core of the success or failure of firms. Productivity of written batik has declined in the past 5 years. From recent BPS data, processed by the Pusdatin Ministry of Industry 2017, the industry has declined by around 10% per year between 2012 and 2017. Type of Paper: Empirical. The issues about legislation of safety management, as well as main techniques of "risk analysis and evaluation", are widely integrated in complex production environment. From an organizational and technological point of view, it’s not easy to implement these techniques in Small and Medium Enterprises. In fact, each technique does not permit a complete and exhaustive analysis and quantification of risks. Application of aforementioned methods does allow for achievement of a wide number of benefits. The aim of this paper is to critically analyse both analysis and risk assessment processes. In this paper, integration between System Dynamics and Layers of Protection Analysis technique is provided in order to enhance results of risk management. System Dynamics shows to be very effective in evaluating interaction effect of different incidental scenarios properly identified through risk analysis technique used. System Dynamics modelling permits simulation through changes in time and feedback mechanism. This approach has been validated via testing in a plastic molding plant with a scenario of risk of a massive fire.

The purpose of this research is to find out how the stages and strategies of handling the readiness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) entrepreneurs in supporting the development of West Java International Airport (WJIA) Kertajati. The method used is descriptive analysis method with a quantitative approach. Data collection was carried out through structured interviews and questionnaires with 4 respondents from culinary Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in Kertajati Village. Techniques for measuring community readiness using the Community Readiness Modelconsisting of no awareness, denial/resistance, vague awareness, preplanning, preparation, initiation, stabilization, expansion/confirmation, community ownership. The results showed that the readiness of Kertajati Village Culinary MSME actors in supporting the development of WJIA Kertajati using 5 readiness dimensions, namely having a score of 4.4 or being in the preplanning stage which means that the community already has an understanding of the issues/problems that must be solved together. The handling strategy uses quantitative SWOT with the result that the strength (S) and opportunity (O) factors have a higher score than the weakness (W) and threat (T) factors. So there are several strategies or policy implications that can be carried out, namely providing incentives or capital assistance to culinary actors in Kertajati Village.
