Shortage of nurses negatively influences the working environment in hospitals, by placing extra burden on newly graduated nurses. Thus, it is important to improve the knowledge and skills of nurses to increase their confidence levels. Experienced nurses serve as role models for junior nurses. This study aimed to describe and analyze a project with a nursing preceptorship in an internal medicine ward in the eastern region of Sweden. Standards for Quality Improvement Reporting Excellence (SQUIRE 2.0) were used in the multi-method approach. Quality indicators, staff turnover, short-term absence, and annual survey were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Moreover, two focus group interviews were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The results showed marginal improvements due to quality indicators and working environment, and decreased staff turnover and short-term absenteeism. Two factors, ‘supportive working environment’ and ‘improvement in nursing’, were identified. The study concluded that selection of nurse preceptors with expertise and interest in supportive and reflective approaches is significant for promoting a healthy working environment. Moreover, interventions such as nursing preceptorship facilitate implementation (<one year) and evaluation using a multi-method design to describe, explain, and understand the possible considerations and consequences of quality improvement in healthcare.

The surface charge distribution of clay particles governs the interparticle forces and their arrangement in clay-water systems. The plasticity properties are the consequences of the interaction at the microscopic scale, even if they are traditionally linked to the mechanical properties of fine-grained soils. In the paper, the plasticity modifications induced by the addition of lime were experimentally investigated for two different clays (namely kaolinite and bentonite) in order to gain microstructural insights of the mechanisms affecting their plastic behavior as a function of the lime content and curing time. Zeta potential and dynamic light scattering measurements, as well as thermogravimetric analyses, highlighted the mechanisms responsible for the plastic changes at a small scale. The increase of the interparticle attraction forces due to the addition of lime increased the liquid and plastic limits of kaolinite in the short term, without significant changes in the long term due to the low reactivity of the clay in terms of pozzolanic reactions. The addition of lime to bentonite resulted in a decrease of interparticle repulsion double layer interactions. Rearrangement of the clay particles determined a reduction of the liquid limit and an increase of the plastic limit of the treated clays in the very short term. Precipitation of the bonding compounds due to pozzolanic reactions increased both the liquid and plastic limits over the time.

The goal of this work is to improve the generalization of remaining useful life (RUL) prognostics for wheel hub bearings. The traditional life prognostics methods assume that the data used in RUL prognostics is composed of one specific fatigue damage type, the data used in RUL prognostics is accurate, and the RUL prognostics are conducted in the short term. Due to which, a generalizing RUL prognostics method is designed based on fault signal data. Firstly, the fault signal model is designed with the signal in a complex and mutative environment. Then, the generalizing RUL prognostics method is designed based on the fault signal model. Lastly, the simplified solution of the generalizing RUL prognostics method is deduced. The experimental results show that the proposed method gained good accuracies for RUL prognostics for all the amplitude, energy, and kurtosis features with fatigue damage types. The proposed method can process inaccurate fault signals with different kinds of noise in the actual working environment, and it can be conducted in the long term. Therefore, the RUL prognostics method has a good generalization.

The physicochemical and physicomechanical properties of quick-setting compositions based on fine-grained electric steelmaking slag (ESS) produced by Izhstal PJSC, Russia, have been examined. The study also focuses on the processes of interaction of the components of the compositions based on ESS in combination with hardening accelerators (Li2CO3, K2SO4) and plasticizing additives (SP-1, Melflux 2651F). It has been found that mechanoactivation of the composition improves the hydration in comparison with chemical admixtures. This can be proved by the obtained results of the setting and testing timing of the mechanical properties of the mixture. Plasticizers being added, the setting time increases at the average by 2.3 times, and accelerators being added, by 2 times compared with the mechanically activated composition. The influence of mechanoactivation on the strength of the compositions has been described. In comparison with the plasticized composition, the strength increases by 10%, while using accelerators – by 30%. Thus, the most effective way of producing a dry mixture with the properties of quick setting and hardening is a short-term mixed grinding of all its components, which makes it possible to exclude accelerating chemical admixtures and plasticizing additives in the mixture. Also, grinding positively affects the strength gain of quick-setting compositions while reducing the gypsum content to 5%.
