Oxygen-containing heterocycles are largely distributed in natural and synthetic compounds. Coumarins are among the most famous heterocycles which possess one oxygen atom in their rings. Coumarins are classified as multifunctional scaffold and are used as anti-oxidant reagents, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-HIV active, analgesic, anti-histaminic, insecticides, dyes, herbicides, sensitizers, perfumes, cosmetics and food additives. Due to their diverse applications in industrial and pharmaceutical fields, many chemists have given significant interest to these compounds. Herein, the review highlights various methods for the synthesis and interactions of coumarin moiety as one of the most efficient categories of heterocycles.

Summary Nothapodytes nimmoniana (J. Graham) (Icacinaceae), commonly known as Amruta is found in India particularly in Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Assam, Jammu and Kashmir as well as Tamilnadu areas. It is an important medicinal plant, the major source of a potent alkaloid, namely camptothecin, of a wide spectrum of pharmacological activities like anti-cancer, anti-HIV, antimalarial, antibacterial, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and also applied in the treatment of anaemia. Camptothecin is still not synthesized, therefore, its production entirely depends on natural sources. N. nimmoniana is one such plant which yields contain camptothecin in significantly high amount. The plant is gaining international recognition due to its diversified medicinal uses. It is subjected to excessive harvest. It has been categorized as a vulnerable and endangered plant. The present review encompasses the phytochemical, analytical, pharmacological, biotechnological, and other specific aspects of N. nimmoniana.

According to ancient Unani classical text books by our ancient scholars which was used for mostly bony diseaseslike Fracture (kasar), Joint pain(Hudaar), gout(Naqras), sciatica(lrqun nasa), anti inflammatory(Muhalil e Auram), spacity of nerves(Tashannunj e Asab), nervine tonic(Muqavi e Asab)etc. and now a days further activities were found by various scientific studies paving a way for multi functional activities like Anti oxidant , analgesic anti inflammatory, anti pyretic, anti microbial, anti bacterial, anti fungal anti helminthic, wound healing, hepatoprotective, nephro protective, anti infertility,anti hyperglycemic and anti hyperlipidemic.

In the last 2-3 decades, the broad research in the application of benzimidazole derivatives made it important for mankind. Many scientists have worked on benzimidazole derivatives and they found that this compound has a diverse role in the field of medicinal chemistry. Few benzimidazole derivatives are currently in the market as a drug candidate against various diseases. Moreover, the benzimidazole derivatives exhibit pharmacological activities such as anti-tuberculosis, anti-malarial, antihistamine, antimicrobial, antiviral, antidiabetic, anticancer, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-HIV, etc. In this review, we have summarized various derivatives of benzimidazole which have been prepared by many researchers to understand the chemistry as well as diverse pharmacological activities. These findings may lead the scientists who are working in the field of medicinal chemistry to the development of benzimidazole based drug candidates in the future.

The traditional system of medicinal plants have been found to possess significant anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-diabetic, analgesic properties etc. Plant-derived drugs are used to cure mental illness, skin diseases, tuberculosis, diabetes, jaundice, hypertension, and cancer. Wedelia Trilobata belongs to family Asteraceae. Leaf, stem, and flower of Wedelia trilobata show anti-microbial, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, analgesic activity. Phytochemical screening of the extract has been reported to show the presence of tannins, cardiac glycosides, flavonoids, terpenoids, phenols, saponins, and coumarins. Wedelia Trilobata is also used in reproductive problems, amenorrhea, chest cold, dry cough, and fever. The present review aims to the study was phytoconstituents, biological and pharmacological activities of Wedelia trilobata. This study suggested a possible use of Wedelia trilobata as a source of natural medicines as an anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, hepatoprotective, antidiabetic agents. The main objective of the present article is to avoid the adverse effect of the existing synthetic acne cream by formulating an herbal acne cream for treatment of acne vulgaris. Acne vulgaris is a long term skin disease that occurs when hair follicles were blocked with dead skin cell and oil from the skin. Acne vulgaris is the most common bacteria causing chronic inflammatory skin disorder. Propioni bacterium and staphylococcus aureus are common pus forming microbes responsible for acne vulgaris. Various herbs used for the treatment of acne vulgaris such as wheat germ oil used as anti-oxidant and it is a great sources of vitamin-e, haldi helps to reduce the inflammation of acne and it act as anti-inflammatory agent, neem helps in clearing acne, scars and pigmentation, raspberry used as anti-oxidant and it is a source of vitamin c, kesar act as anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antioxidant. Natural herbal extracts in combination effectively utilized for the treatment of acne. Use of such products far better than the use of synthetic cream for the control of acne. Wheat germ oil which is extracted from kernel of wheat grains, haldi is extracted from rhizome; neem is extracted from leaf, raspberry (seed), kesar extracted from the stigmas of the flower part.

Abstract Background The unique and vast pharmacological activities of flavonoids have made them of research interest. This led to the use of various techniques to isolate and characterize them, intending to determine their potential health benefits. Main text The medicinal values of plant-based flavonoids that this literature review tends to summarize the pharmacological activities of these secondary metabolites from 22 selected plant families. The pharmacological shreds of evidence reported in the literature have proven that flavonoids have shown anti-cancer, anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-ulcer, and anti-edematogenic activities. Out of these, 30% showed to have anti-oxidant activity, key in protecting the body against free radicals. Besides, 18% of the references showed anti-microbial and anti-cancer activities. Further literature reports indicated that flavonoids from these families exhibited anti-inflammatory and anti-edematogenic (9%), anti-viral and anti-ulcer (5%), anti-fungal, anti-nociceptive, and anti-histamine (2%). Conclusion The pharmacological activities of flavonoids from the various sources reviewed in this study show that the secondary metabolites could provide a scaffold for the development of potent anti-cancer drugs in the future.

Coumarin and its derivatives are widely spread in nature. Coumarin goes to agroup as benzopyrones, which consists of a benzene ring connected to a pyronemoiety. Coumarins displayed a broad range of pharmacologically useful profile.Coumarins are considered as a promising group of bioactive compounds thatexhibited a wide range of biological activities like anti-microbial, anti-viral,antiparasitic, anti-helmintic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anticancer,anti-oxidant, anti-proliferative, anti-convulsant, and antihypertensiveactivities etc. The coumarin compounds have immense interest due to theirdiverse pharmacological properties. In particular, these biological activities makecoumarin compounds more attractive and testing as novel therapeuticcompounds.

Background: Gentiana lutea (GL), commonly known as yellow gentian, bitter root, and bitterwort, belongs to family Gentianaceae. GL belongs to genus Gentiana, which is a rich natural source of iridoids, secoiridoids, xantones, flavonoids, triterpenoids, and carbohydrates. Medicinal plants from Gentiana species have anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-mitogenic, anti-proliferative, and lipid-lowering effects, as well as a cardioprotective, hypotensive, vasodilator and anti-platelet activities. Objective: We reviewed the recent literature related to the effects of Gentiana species, and their active components on vascular diseases. Methods: Data used for this review were obtained by searching the electronic database [PUBMED/MEDLINE 1973 - February 2020]. The primary data search terms of interest were: Gentiana lutea, Gentienacea family, phytochemistry, vascular diseases, treatment of vascular diseases, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-atherogenic. Conclusion: Gentiana species and their constituents affect many different factors related to vascular disease development and progression. Therefore, Gentiana-based therapeutics represent potentially useful drugs for the management of vascular diseases.
