Introduction: Children are like butterflies. They really love to explore the living surroundings they live. The environment they live has many potential hazards. Unintentional injuries are mainly responsible for many injury and death in children especially under five children. But most of the potential risks can be avoided if the parents of under five children are aware of the risk factors in their surroundings and children should be properly taken care by their parents. There are many causes of injury and death among children but most of the leading causes are Drowning, Falling, Burns, Choking and Poisoning. Educating and giving awareness to parents about the preventive measures which should be adopted to prevent these injuries can save the children especially under five thereby reducing the mortality rate upto 90 percentage. Statement of Problem: A Study to Assess the level of Knowledge and Attitude regarding Home safety measures on unintentional injuries among mothers of under- five children at Paediatric units, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, Puducherry. Objectives: 1. To assess the level of knowledge and attitude regarding home safety measures on unintentional injuries among mothers of under five children. 2. To find out the association between level of knowledge and attitude regarding home safety measures on unintentional injuries among mothers of under five children with selected demographic variables. Methodology: Data was collected over a period of one week in march 2020.Exploratory research approach is used in this study and descriptive research design is used to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding home safety measures on unintentional injuries among mothers of under five children. Mothers of under five children who fulfil inclusion criteria were selected using Purposive Sampling Technique and the sample size is 67. Data was collected using structured questionnaire. The data collected will be analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Fisherman exact test was used to test the association between level of knowledge regarding home safety measures on unintentional injuries among mothers of under five children with selected demographic variables. Results: In the present study, level of knowledge of mothers of under five children regarding home safety measures on unintentional injuries revealed that 21(31.34%) were having inadequate knowledge, 37(55.22%) mothers were having moderately adequate knowledge, 9 (13.43%) mothers were having adequate knowledge regarding home safety measures on unintentional injuries. The level of attitude of mothers of under five children regarding home safety measures revealed that 67(100%) of the mothers were having favourable attitude regarding home safety measures on unintentional injuries. Conclusion: The researchers gave health education leaflets to all the mothers of under-five children in order to improve the knowledge of the mother so that risks of unintentional injury can be reduced thereby reducing mortality rate of under five children.

Back ground: An experimental study was conducted to assess the effects of instructional teaching programme (ITP) on knowledge and practices of mothers regarding prevention of pneumonia in children, Pooncherry, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu, India.Objectives of the study were to assess the effectiveness of ITP on prevention of pneumonia on level of knowledge and practices among mothers of under five children. Materials and Methods: Non probability purposive technique was adopted for this study. Samples who met inclusion criteria were participated in the study. Self-structured interview schedule for knowledge  and structured rating scale for practices were used to collect the data. Results: The study results shows that in the pre test 15.13 % of the mothers had adequate knowledge, 24.34 % of the mothers were had moderately adequate knowledge and 60.53 % of the mothers had inadequate knowledge and  and in post test 63.17% of mothers were had adequate knowledge, 28.94% of the mothers had moderately adequate knowledge and very few (8.55% ) mothers had inadequate knowledge. Pre test practices score shows that 63.82 % of the mothers had less desirable practice, 22.37% of the mothers had moderate desirable practices and 13.81% were had highly desirable practices whereas in the post test 63.82% of them had highly desirable practice, 23.03% of them had moderate desirable practices and 13.16% of them had less desirable practices. The mean pretest knowledge score was 5.45 ± 1.47 and the mean posttest knowledge score was 8.49 ± 0.71 and the t value was 15.17, it shows that statistically there was an improvement in the post test knowledge score. The mean pretest practice score was 22.38 ± 2.76, the mean posttest practice score was 43.64 ±1.97 and the t value was 13.35, it shows that statistically there was a significant improvement in the post test practice score. The instructional teaching programme on prevention of pneumonia was statistically effective in promoting the knowledge and desirable practices among mothers.

World Health Organization (WHO) defines accident as an unexpected and an unintended event causing physical and mental injures. Children being less aware of danger are more vulnerable to accidents are one of the five leading causes of death in developing countries yearly. Accidents are main cause of death among children aged between 1-5 years old. As children are explorative in nature a number of accidents occur in this age group. Aims of the study: To assess the knowledge of mothers regarding prevention of home accidents and to find association between the knowledge score of mothers and selected demographic variables. Methodology: A descriptive study approach was adopted and structured questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge of mothers. Convenience sampling technique was used to select the 50 samples from the selected community at Mangalore. The results and Conclusion: Majority (36%) of the mothers belonged to the age group 25-31 years. Half (50%) of the samples are belonged to Muslim community, 60% of the samples were from nuclear family, most (36%) of the samples were having one under five child. Majority 34% had pre-university and 30% had secondary school education. Majority (84 %) of the respondents had moderately adequate knowledge, only few (4 %) had inadequate knowledge and only 12% had adequate knowledge on prevention of home accidents. The maximum score of knowledge score was about 19, range 16, mean 10.54, standard deviation ± 4.20 and the mean percentage was 13. The computed chi-square value chi-square value computed between the level of knowledge and selected demographic variables i.e. age (22=1.093) Religion (22=2.155), Type of family (22=2.614), number of children below 5 years of age (22=.398) educational status (23=1.840) of the mothers and whether the child met with any type of accidents (21=.368) not significant at 0.05 level of significance. Thus, it can be interpreted that there is no significant association between knowledge of mothers of under five children and selected variables. Knowledge of mothers regarding prevention of home accidents was moderately adequate. Under five home accidents are common in India and it is necessary to take adequate precautions to prevent it. Educating mothers is the best way to prevent under five accidents at home.

Aims: The study measured the level of knowledge and attitudes towards malaria and examined associated factors among caregivers of under-five children. Study Design: The study was community-based, descriptive cross-sectional. Place and Duration of Study: The study was carried out in Buea Health District (BHD) from February to June 2020. Methodology: Data were obtained through face-to-face interviews with the caregivers of under-fives. The above mean scores were used to determine the level of knowledge. The attitude levels were measured by using 3-point Likert scales. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify risk factors associated with knowledge and attitude. SPSS software version 20.0 was used for analysis. Results: Out of the 390 respondents, 69.5% of them had a neutral attitude. Meanwhile, 27.7 % of participants carried a favorable attitude towards malaria and only 2.8 % of them had an unfavorable attitude, Caregivers of under-five children who scored below the mean score were 25.1 % which was considered having poor knowledge and above the mean score was 74.9% which was considered good knowledge. In the multivariable logistic analysis, caregivers with a primary school level of education were 4.1 times (AOR = 4.1, CI = 1.486-11.102) times more likely of receiving a high malaria knowledge score as compared to those with no formal education. Factors associated with caregiver's attitude level towards malaria risk were educational level and marital status which showed significant associations in the univariate analysis Conclusion: Caregivers of under-fives displayed a good knowledge of malaria risk factors. However, in these endemic areas for malaria, caregiver attitude was found to be unenthusiastic and unresponsive, and this poses additional challenges in reaching the malaria elimination goal. Thus, suggesting that educational messages during the campaign should be contextual to reach out to local communities to trigger a positive behavioural change.

Aim: a study aim to assess the effectiveness of video assisted teaching programme on knowledge regarding prevention and first aid management of domestic accident among mothers of under five children at selected rural area villupuram. Objectives: To assess the level of knowledge on prevention and first aid management of domestic accident among mother of under five children. To evaluate the effectiveness of video assisted teaching programme on prevention and first aid management on domestic accident among mothers of under five children To associate the post test level of knowledge on prevention and first aid management on domestic accident among mothers of under five children with their selected demographic variables. Methods & Material: A quantitative research approach - Pre-experimental research design with one group pre test and post test design was adopted. 50 samples were selected for the study by using non probability convenient sampling technique. Results: In pre test level of knowledge among 50 samples 41(82%) had inadequate knowledge 7(14%) had moderate knowledge and 2(4%) had adequate knowledge regarding domestic accident .in post test level of knowledge among 50 samples 7(14%) had adequate knowledge and 13(26%) had adequate knowledge regarding domestic accident. The finding reveals that pre test mean was 13.44 with the standard deviation of 2.619 and the post test mean was 18.52 with the standard deviation of 2.651. The mean difference of pre and post test is 5.2, standard error is 0.781. The ‘t’ value of 6.6 is Highly Significant at p <0.05 it indicates that the knowledge level of mothers of under five children are improved after video assisted teaching programme Conclusion: The study concluded that, video assisted teaching programme on domestic accident was effective on improving the knowledge level among mother of under five children. Dental caries is a major public health problem globally and is one of the most chronic diseases in children. Children are susceptible to caries as soon as the first teeth appear. Parents are the primary decision-makers in matters of children's healthcare. If the parents are knowledgeable about the child's oral health care then childhood dental caries can be prevented. The objective of this study was to identify the knowledge on childhood dental caries among parents of under five children. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out among parents of under five children in a community of Biratnagar 12. Sample was selected using non probability purposive sampling method and data was collected by face-to-face interview using a self-developed, semi-structured interview guideline. Descriptive statistics i.e. frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation was used to assess the level of knowledge and inferential statistics i.e chi square was used to find the association between dependent and independent variables. About three fourths (71%) of the parents were of age group 20-30 years and 88% of them were mothers. Most of the parents (90%) were aware that dental caries can occur in under five children and excessive sugar intake was the most common cause as reported by all of them. Only 40% knew that dental caries is transmissible and among them 97.6% responded by sharing of toothbrush. Regarding good brushing habit, most of the parents were aware. Almost all (95%) knew that proper tooth brushing helps to prevent dental caries whereas only 19% were aware about use of fluoridated tooth paste as preventive measures. Meanwhile, only 12% of the parents were aware that first dental visit should be done when first tooth erupts or within 1 year of age More than half (79%) had good knowledge on childhood dental caries but there was no association of knowledge with socio-demographic variables. The study concluded that more than half of the respondents had good knowledge on childhood dental caries and none of the socio-demographic variables were associated with the level of knowledge of parents on dental caries. Despite good knowledge, prevalence of childhood dental caries is high in our society thus reflecting the need to assess the practice of dental care.

Background: Children under five years of age are more prone to develop infection, as their immune system is immature. The study aimed to assess the level of knowledge regarding seizure disorder among mothers of under five children, to evaluate the effectiveness of video assisted teaching program regarding seizure disorder among mothers of under five children and to find out the association between the pretest knowledge with their selected demographic variables of selected community area Lucknow. Conceptual model used for the study was Rosentock’s modified health belief model Objective: To assess the pretest level of knowledge regarding seizure among mothers of under five children and assess the effectiveness of the video assisted teaching program regarding seizure among mothers of under five children and find out the association between the pretest knowledge with their selected demographic variables. Materials and Method: The research approach was evaluative, the research design was pre-experimental, a one group pre-and posttest design was used for the study. A sample was 30 mothers with children aged under five were selected through convenient sampling method on knowledge regarding seizure. It was assessed by structured questionnaire, where during the pretest the mothers of children aged under five were attended the video-assisted teaching regarding seizure. Posttest data were collected after 1 week of implementation of video-assisted teaching. Results: The data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statics. The result revealed that after the intervention the mean and standard deviation of post-test knowledge was 28.8 and 2.51 being compare to pre-test 11.4 and 3.15.It indicate that there was a significant improvement in the level of knowledge of participants. The calculated t value (20.30) on analyses of the data was found to be significant at p value 0.05. Conclusion: The video-assisted teaching was effective and improved the knowledge regarding seizure among mothers of under five year children. Introduction: Paediatric emergencies are the leading causes of death in children under five years of age. The toddlers, preschoolers with highest curiosity to explore, investigate and with the ability to run and play are more prone to getting injuries like falls, burns, cuts, bites, stings, poisoning, fracture, chocking, and wounds. Paediatric emergency mostly occur in home, roads and grounds. Hence the mothers are expected to be knowledgeable on paediatric first aid management. The objectives of this research to assess the knowledge on pediatric first aid management, to compare the knowledge on pediatric first aid management and to find out association between the knowledge scores of mothers with under five children with selected demographic variables. Methods: A cross sectional analytical study was conducted to assess the knowledge regarding pediatric first aid management among 165 mothers with under five children were selected  in pediatric outpatient department of College of Medical Sciences  Teaching Hospital by non probability purposive sampling technique and data was collected by using structured interview questionnaire. The data was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics SPSS software. Results: Demographic characteristics reveal that highest percentage (61.8 %) of them had one under five children. Comparisons of the knowledge score with demography highest mean and SD in relation to postgraduate shows that (30.2 ± 1.78). The level of knowledge score was (53.9 %) of them had adequate knowledge. However there was significant association between knowledge score with their education, occupation, family income and previous source of information. It revealing that maximum demographic variables do not affected the level of knowledge. Conclusions: The level of knowledge about pediatric first aid management among mothers was satisfactory. But still the mothers require the need of pediatric first aid health information among mothers to save and safe the children.   Keywords: Knowledge, Pediatric First Aid Management, Mothers with Under Five Children.

A descriptive research design with purposing sampling technique was adopted to conduct a study among mothers of under-five children. Data was gathered by using structured questionnaires. Among 100 samples out of 61 samples (61%) have inadequate knowledge, 39 samples (39%) have moderate knowledge and none of them had adequate knowledge in the pre-test. Among 100 samples out of 17 samples (17%) have moderate knowledge, 83 samples (83%) have adequate knowledge and none of them had inadequate knowledge in post-test. The study shows that it is an association between the demographic variables of mothers of under-five children regarding prevention of dengue fever. There was a statistically significant found in significant family income. The studies concluded that there is an association between the demographic variables of mothers of under-five children regarding prevention of dengue fever. There was a statistically significant found in significant family income.

BACKGROUND HIV infection is one of the most leading infections in the world. According to WHO HIV constitutes to be a major global public health issue, having claimed almost 33 million so far. There were an estimation of 38.0 million people living with the HIV at the end of 2019. As a result of concerted international efforts to respond to HIV , coverage of services has been steadily increasing. In 2019, 68% of adults and 53% of children living with HIV globally were receiving lifelong antiretroviral therapy (ART). There is no cure of HIV infections , however effective antiretroviral drugs can the control of virus and help onward transmission to other people. The knowledge regarding HIV infections in the public is a not much. The study focuses on the effectiveness of self instructional module on knowledge regarding the HIV among the drivers in Kancheepuram, Chennai. The objectives of the study was to assess the pre and post test of the self instructional module. For the study 60 samples were adopted by purposive sampling technique. The pre test was conducted by giving the structured questionnare then the module was given and then the post assessment was conducted. The study was conducted for 1 week. In the pre assessment 52(86.7%) were having inadequate knowledge and 8(13.3%) had moderately inadequate knowledge. In the post test 50(83.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 10(16.67%) has adequate knowledge. The effectivess of self instructional module was calculated by the paired t test (t=12.880) was found to be statistically highly significant at p<0.001 OBJECTIVE To assess the pre test level of existing knowledge on HIV among drivers. (2)To determine the effectiveness of self instructional module on HIV among drivers. (3)To find the association between the level of knowledge with their selected demographic variables METHODS Quantative research approach and pre experimental one group pre test post test design was used to assess the effectiveness of self instructional module on HIV to drivers. After obtaining permission from Saveetha College Of Nursing , the investigator selected 60 drivers by using purposive sampling technique. The sample who met the inclusion criteria were selected by purposive sampling technique . The investigator introduced and explained the purpose of the study to the samples and obtain the written confirmed. The purpose of the study were explained to the drivers. Section A: It consist of the demographic variables which include Age, sex, education. Occupation, monthly income, religion, marital status, type of family and dietary pattern.Section B- It consist 25 multiple choice questions to assess the effectiveness of self instructional module. RESULTS The drivers most of them 26(43.3%) were in the age group of 41 – 50 years, all 60(100%) were male, 45(75%) were private employee, 21(35%) had monthly income of 9000 – 11000 and above 11000 respectively, 45(75%) were married, 32(53.3%) belonged to nuclear family 45(75%) were non-vegetarian. Section B : Assess the pretest level of existing knowledge on HIV among drivers. The finding of the pretest 52(86.67%) had inadequate knowledge and 8(13.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge. Whereas in the post test, 50(83.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 10( 16.67%) had adequate knowledge on HIV among drivers CONCLUSIONS The findings revealed that the existing level of knowledge on HIV among drivers was improve the knowledge about HIV to be effective awareness by administered self instructional module

Background: Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication and by restricted and repetitive behavior. Mothers of toddlers should have knowledge on Autism to identify the child in earlier age and to treat the child. Objectives: The study aimed to assess the level of knowledge on autism among the mothers of toddlers. The objectives were to find out the level of knowledge on autism among the mothers and to find out the association between the level of knowledge on autism and selected demographic variables of the mothers of toddlers. Materials and Methods: A non-experimental, descriptive study was conducted. The sampling technique was snow ball sampling technique with the sample of 50 mothers of toddlers and questionnaires were formulated, a structured interview schedule was used to assess the level of knowledge on autism among the mothers of toddlers. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the collected data. The data collection procedure was done for period of 2 weeks. The study was initiated after obtaining prior permission from the concern authorities. Results: The findings of this study revealed that 44% of the mothers of toddlers had inadequate knowledge, 44% had moderately adequate knowledge and only 2% had adequate knowledge on autism. There was significant association between level of knowledge and demographic variables such as age, occupation and previous knowledge on Autism of mothers of toddlers.
