The purpose of this study is to examine the extent to which the use of the Logic of English Approach can improve reading skills of Saudi EFL learners at the college of Preparatory Year Program (PYP), Ula Branch, in Taibah University. The Logic of English Approach attempts to integrate teaching with reading skills such as, reading comprehension, reading fluency, vocabulary, literacy and writing skills. The present study attempts to check only the effectiveness of this approach on the enhancement of reading fluency and comprehension. The Logic of English Approach assumes that the improvement of reading fluency depends on intensive teaching and practice of spelling rules using phonics, phonograms, and word roots Eide (2012). To achieve the aim of this study, quantitative research methodology was conducted. The data were collected from lecturers of Taibah University, arranged in tables, interpreted and compared with past studies. The results match most of the previous research.

The present study investigated the effect of morphological awareness on three measures of reading, namely decoding, fluency and comprehension, in Greek as a first language (L1) and in French as a foreign language (L2). Morphological awareness was assessed via two tasks, a verb inflection task and a word production task. The results of this study indicated that the student’s performance in the two morphological tasks was significantly associated with their performance in the reading tasks. Our results support our hypothesis that morphological awareness can be a significant predictor of the high or low performances in decoding, reading fluency and reading comprehension in both L1 and L2 and it plays a critical role in reading efficiency.

This research population is grade VIII SMP Negeri 1 Mapat Tunggul Selatan 2018/2019 school year with a total of 50 people scattered in two classes. A sample of these studies amounted to 50 people. Sampling techniques in the study are the total sampling. Variables this research is critical reading skills as free variables (X) and writing skills text exposition as a variable (Y). The instruments used in this research is an objective test for critical reading skills and test performance for writing skills text Exposition. The results of the research there are three, as follows. First, critical reading skills of students of class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Mapat Tunggul Selatan qualified enough, with an average value of 57.08 is under the KKM (75). Second, the skills of writing a text exposition of grade VIII SMP Negeri 1 Mapat Tunggul Selatan qualified enough, with an average value of 59.67 is under the KKM (75). Third, there is a positive and significant contribution between critical reading skills with writing skills text exposition of grade VIII SMP Negeri 1 Mapat Tunggul Selatan at significant level 95% and the degrees of freedom (dk) = n-1 because thitung > ttabel IE 3.03 > 1.68. Based on the results of this study it was concluded that there is a linear relationship between critical reading skills with writing skills text exposition of grade VIII SMP Negeri 1 Mapat Tunggul Selatan with a confidence level of 95%. The purpose of this study was to examine whether group-based differences exist in word- and text-level reading in a clinical sample of students with dyslexia, and to shed light on the cognitive processes supporting these essential skills. Second- through seventh-grade students were administered a battery of standardized measures of cognitive processing skills (phonological awareness, rapid automatized naming [RAN], and verbal short-term memory), word reading skills (decoding and word identification), oral text reading (fluency and comprehension), and silent text reading (fluency and comprehension). Word- and text-level reading skills were used to place students into the following groups: text fluency deficit, globally impaired, and partially remediated. Results replicated the existence of a text fluency deficit group. Reader group differences in terms of cognitive processing skills were less pronounced than expected, with only phonological awareness differentiating among them. Phonological awareness and RAN emerged as the important contributors to reading skill, though their relative contributions varied across wordand text-level measures. Together, these results point to importance of considering text-level reading processes across modality in both research and clinical contexts.

This study is an in-depth effort to investigate issues usually faced by EFL learners in writing skills. Fifty students of Preparatory Year Program (from different sections) Najran University were randomly selected to illicit their opinion on writing skill using Likert’s 5 scale (always, usually, sometimes, rarely never) questionnaire. In addition, fifty writing samples from first and second midterms of PYP were also selected. The study analyses the writing samples mainly focusing on with special reference to capitalization, punctuation, language use (grammar) and spelling and their impact on other items of language like articles, preposition, coherence, cohesion etc. Contrastive analysis of students’ writing samples and questionnaire prove that students commit mistakes, though unconsciously, in writing. While conducting data analysis using students’ writing samples, it was observed that students used ways to pass an exam i.e. memorize the writing answer(s)/paragraph(s) rather than the proper approaches to developing/learning most common writing strategies when writing an answer. In the end, this study offers some remedial measures for writing problems of Arab EFL learners.
