Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) influences almost 18% of women in their child bearing age and responsible for reproductive, metabolic and psychological dysfunctions. Aim: To examine remedial effect of Nigella sativa on body weight, weight, volume and gross appearance of ovary in polycystic ovarian syndrome induced by Letrozole in mice. Study Design: Randomized control trial. Methodology: Mature female BALB/c mice (n=40) were placed in four groups having ten in each. Group-1 was fed with normal diet. Rests of three were treated with Letrozole at dose of 1mg/kg body weight once daily for eight weeks. Groups (3&4) were also given Nigella sativa seeds powder and oil at dose of l0g/kg body weight and 4ml/kg body weight respectively, once daily commencing at 23 day and remained at end of eight weeks. Ovaries were identified, shape and color were recorded then weighed using a digital precision balance and volume in mm3 by water displacement method. Statistical analysis: Data analyzed by SPSS 21.0v. Results: Body weight of group-2 animals, weight and volume of their ovaries was increased in comparison to group-1 but reduced to group-3 and group-4 animals. Blackish spots on group-2 animal ovaries were observed. Ovaries of groups (3&4) animals were normal in appearance, volume and weight Conclusion: This study concluded that Nigella Sativa seeds in both solid and liquid state leave identical curative impact on body weight, weight, volume and gross appearance of ovaries in polycystic ovarian syndrome in mice. Objective: Monitor the ameliorative impact of Nigella sativa on fasting blood glucose and serum testosteronelevels in polycystic ovarian syndrome caused by letrozole in mice. Study Design: Laboratory based randomized control trial. Place and Duration of Study: Anatomy department, Army Medical College in teamwork with National Instituteof Health. Time span is Dec 2014 Dec 2015. Methodology: Total 40 mature female BALB/c mice were chosen and distributed in four groups (ten mice in each one). Group 1 was given normal diet. Rests of three groups were treated with Letrozole at dose of 1 mg/kg body weight once daily for eight weeks. Group 3 was also given Nigella sativa seeds powder at dose of 10 g/kg body weight once daily starting at 22 day and continued up to eight weeks. Group 4 was treated with Nigella sativa oil at a dose of 4 ml/kg body weight once daily starting at 22 day and continued up to eight weeks. At termination of trial, fasting blood glucose level (FBG) was recorded by taking blood sample by glucometer from mouse lateral tail vein after 12 hours fasting. Mice with blood glucose level 250-464 mg/dl were marked hyperglycemic. Final blood sample was taken through cardiac puncture for serum testosterone evaluation. Results: Fasting blood glucose and Serum testosterone levels were raised in group 2 animals in comparison togroup 1 while they were reduced remarkably in group 3 and 4 in comparison of group 2. Aim: To compare the effects of letrozole alone and letrozole plus metformin on ovulation induction, endometrial thickness, number of ovarian follicles and, the pregnancy rate in overweight, infertile women with the polycystic ovarian syndrome. Study design: Prospective, randomized clinical trial. Material and methods: This study was conducted on 120 patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome, recruited from the infertility clinic of Tanta University Hospital, January 2017 to December 2019. Sixty women were assigned at random to each group. In a group, 1 patient received only daily 5 mg letrozole between days 3 and 7 of the menstrual cycle, and in group 2, continuous metformin was used at the dose of 500mg/TDS/day for three months; afterward, daily 5 mg letrozole between 3 and 7 days of the menstrual cycle was added to the metformin therapy. The patients were treated until pregnancy occurred, or three cycles were reached without pregnancy. Results: There was an insignificant increase in the cumulative pregnancy rate between the metformin-letrazole and the letrazole group. In the metformin-letrozole group, 28.33% of the patents got pregnant, compared with 25% of the patients in the letrazole group. There was no significant difference between the letrazole and the metforminletrazole group regarding ovulation rate, number of the follicle, endometrial thickness, and progesterone level. Conclusion: The addition of metformin to letrazole does not improve the outcome of overweight PCOS women.

We report a case of right adnexal torsion during pregnancy after an oocyte in vitro maturation and intracitoplasmic sperm injection cycle in patient with polycystic ovary syndrome. A 31-year-old woman with a typical clinical disorder of polycystic ovarian syndrome was included in an oocyte in vitro maturation program. Right adnexal torsion occurred two days after embryo transfer, and laparoscopy detorsion was successfully performed with preservation of adnexa. The patient had a full-term pregnancy and delivered a healthy infant at 40 weeks of gestation. To our knowledge this is the first report of adnexal torsion after an oocyte in vitro maturation and intracitoplasmic sperm injection program.

Injectable Cu and Zn were evaluated as mineral supplements using 37 purebred Herefords (Group 1) and 23 Angus-Charolais-North Devon crosses (Group 2). The 60 steers were carried through a 113-d grazing phase. This was followed by a 79-d finishing phase for all steers of Group 1 and seven steers of Group 2. Treatments were combinations of the non-dosing (0Cu, 0Zn) and dosing (+Cu, +Zn) of steers with injectable Cu or Zn at the start of the grazing phase: (1) 0Cu, 0Zn; (2) +Cu, 0Zn; (3) 0Cu, +Zn; and (4) +Cu, +Zn. Injectables were the sole source of supplementary Cu and Zn during grazing and finishing phases. Means (SE) for Cu and Zn, respectively, in forages as milligrams per kilogram dry matter (DM) during the grazing phase were: grasses, 4.4 (0.17), 15.7 (0.46); alfalfa, 6.9 (0.18), 16.5 (1.49); and birdsfoot trefoil 5.0 (0.76), 15.0 (3.41). Injectable Cu did not influence (P > 0.05) body weight during the grazing phase. Body weight responses were lower (P < 0.05) for +Cu steers in the finishing phase, when dietary Cu was low, but steers could not be classified as Cu-deficient based on liver Cu. Liver Cu increased to means greater than 140 mg kg−1 DM in all steers, but was higher (P < 0.05) in +Cu steers during the grazing phase. Serum Cu varied widely during the grazing phase, but was higher (P < 0.05) for +Cu steers only on day 84 of the grazing phase. Neither liver Cu nor serum Cu was influenced (P > 0.05) by injectable Zn. Injectable Zn decreased growth rates in the latter part of the grazing phase but did not affect (P > 0.05) the body weight response during the finishing phase. The concentrations of Zn in liver and serum were not influenced (P > 0.05) by injectable Cu or Zn. Key words: Cattle, grazing, copper, zinc, injectable copper, injectable zinc

ABSTRACT Introduction The polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common condition associated with chronic anovulation affecting 4 to 6% of reproductive age women. Aim To compare the effectiveness of laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD) for ovulation induction with gonadotropins in clomiphene-resistant PCOS in terms of ovulation, pregnancy, live birth, abortion, multiple pregnancies, and complication like ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Setting and design A prospective hospital-based randomized trial. Materials and methods It was a prospective study, which was carried out from January 2012 to May 2015. Totally, 89 women were evaluated in the study, out of which 44 women were in gonadotropin group and 45 were in LOD group. Statistical analysis Standard statistical analysis was done and significance of difference in results was tested by chi-square test. Results Ovulation rate in gonadotropin group was 75.0% at 6 months, whereas in LOD group, it was 20% at 3 months and was increased up to 66.66% after addition of clomiphene citrate and gonadotropin. The primary outcome in terms of pregnancy in gonadotropin group was 45.45% after 6 cycles and in LOD group was 11.11% after 3 cycles and 40.00% after 6 cycles with supplementation of clomiphene citrate and gonadotropin. Conclusion The ongoing pregnancy rate from ovulation induction with LOD alone was significantly less but if supplemented by clomiphene citrate and gonadotropin, it seems equivalent to ovulation induction with gonadotropin, but the former procedure carries a lower risk of multiple pregnancies. In order to decide the optimum time of grazing for camels during hot summer months, 10 growing camel calveswere divided into 2 equal groups. First group was sent for grazing during 10:00 h to 16:00 h daily and second groupallowed for grazing during thermo neutral period. The climatic variables were recorded daily (April 2012 to March2013). The average daily gain and total body weight gain in calves sent for grazing during relatively cool parts ofday (group 2) was significantly higher as compared to group 1 calves sent as per routine farm schedule. Theaverage intake of fodder and water from manger was higher in group 1 calves. The average DMI from manger forgroup 1 calves was higher as compared to group 2 calves. The comparative biometrics of camel calves in differentgrazing management practices revealed that body length, heart girth, height at wither, neck length were significantly(P&lt;0.01) higher in group 2 calves as compared to group 1 calves. After 180 days of experimentation, humpcircumference vertical and hind leg length were significantly (P&lt;0.05) increased in group 2 as compared to group1. Analysis of recorded data of climatic parameters revealed that average maximum temperature was higher duringJune 2012. The values of THI also were higher in monsoon and post monsoon months hence the practice of sendingcamel calves during relatively comfortable part of hot and hot humid months was successful in getting good growth.The relative humidity was significantly higher during morning as compared to evening period for all months. TheTHI was significantly lower during morning as compared to evening hours for all months in different climate forwhole year. Economic analysis reveals that the cost of feed per kg body weight gain was quite less in group 2 ascompared to group 1. So the practice of grazing of camel calves during cool hours of day remain profitable forfarmers by looking at the body weight gain and better body conformation in climate change condition.

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) therapy is used to control puberty progression and it preserves height potential in patients with idiopathic central precocious puberty (ICPP). This study evaluated the correlation between weight and height gain at menarche following GnRHa treatment among girls with ICPP and relatively central early puberty (EP). We investigated height/weight trends and changes in height from diagnosis to menarche in girls with ICPP and EP treated with GnRHa. The mean difference in height (Δheight) from treatment cessation to menarche was 9.79 ± 3.53 cm. Girls were divided into girls with Δheight ≥ 9.79 cm (Group 1) and girls with Δheight < 9.79 cm (Group 2). Although near adult height was significantly higher in Group 1, the mean body mass index (BMI) and weight were significantly lower at diagnosis, treatment discontinuation, and menarche. The BMI and weight at the three time points were negatively correlated with height. Girls with higher BMI at all three time points had slower growth rates during the study period. Considering that BMI and body weight were closely related to Δheight, proper management of BMI and body weight of girls receiving early puberty treatment might contribute to growth during and after GnRHa treatment.

Background: Ovarian steroidogenesis requires gonadotropin stimulation, Luteinizing Hormone (LH) is a key factor in the hyperandrogenaemia of the polycystic ovary syndrome. Progesterone is the primary regulator of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) pulse frequency; however, in the polycystic ovary syndrome, the GnRH pulse generator is relatively resistant to the negative feedback effects of progesterone.  Study aims to evaluate the association of Anti-mullerian hormone with serum androgen and gonadotropin level in adolescents and young women of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).Methods: This was a single centre observational Cross-sectional study carried out in the department of Endocrinology and metabolism, Medical College, Kolkata from March 2017 to January 2019. Total number of study subjects were 207 out of which 138 were cases.Results: The AMH had strong positive correlation with serum testosterone in both case and control groups (r 0.542, p<0.001 and r 0.57, p<0.001) respectively .After the adjustment of age and BMI , the AMH moderately positive  but extremely significant correlation with serum testosterone as compare to control.Conclusions: Hyperandrogenaemia and higher ratio of LH and FSH associated with higher serum AMH level is associated with the higher serum AMH in polycystic ovarian syndrome.

ABSTRACT Background Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness. The fundamental problem in medical management of glaucoma is of patient compliance. An ideal drug or a drug combination is needed to slow the progression of this majorly symptomless disease. Aim To compare the efficacy and tolerability of the fixed combination latanoprost and timolol instilled once daily in the evening vs fixed combination of dorzolamide and timolol instilled twice daily in primary open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Materials and methods A 12-week, randomized, open, parallel group study including 50 patients with primary open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension was conducted at a tertiary care hospital. Patients were randomized to group 1, (fixed combination (FC) latanoprost and timolol eye drops, once daily in evening) and group 2, (FC dorzolamide and timolol eye drops, twice daily). At baseline, 2, 4 and 12 weeks, IOP was recorded at 9 AM and 12 noon. The difference in IOP reduction in two treatment groups from baseline to 12 weeks was the main outcome measure. Results Mean diurnal IOP was similar at baseline for both groups. Mean reduction in IOP from baseline to 12 weeks was 9.92 mm Hg (p = 0.001) in group 1 and 9.22 (p = 0.001) in group 2. The reduction in IOP in both groups 1 and 2 was statistically significant at all time intervals. There was a statistically significant advantage for group 1 at 12 weeks for both time readings (p = 0.013 and 0.002 respectively) as compared to group 2. Conclusion The fixed combination of latanoprost and timolol was more effective than that of dorzolamide and timolol in reducing mean diurnal IOP and both treatments were well tolerated.
