The trend of teaching English as foreign language in 21st century has changed from teacher centered to students centered paradigm which results the need of students’ autonomy in learning process. Then, this research was aimed to depict how the schoology as e-media to promote 25 VII A class students’ autonomy in learning English as foreign language (EFL) in discourse analysis course. This was a case study qualitative research by applying triangulation of the data. The results of this research mentioned that schoology successfully promoted students’ autonomy by considering some facts such as students active participations through logging in and commenting others’ idea; students’ control on deciding learning modes, setting, and materials; and students’ enthusiasm to finish the lecturer’s challenges. One unique thing was that shy students were more active in Schoology. Finally, this research suggests to present schoology in teaching content course.

The 21st century education brings changes in the classroom practices that are increasingly complex along with the development of the technology. This demands the teachers to adapt their teaching and insert 21stcentury skills in the classroom. This research aimed data analyzing how English  teachers implements learning and innovation skills of 21st century education in teaching English as a foreign language in SMA Negeri 2 Singaraja. A mixed-method was implemented as the method in this study. The research subjects were4 English teachers in SMA Negeri 2 Singaraja. Due to pandemic situation of Corona virus, the data were collected using questionnaire and interview without observations. The results of the questionnaire and interview showed that English teacher inserted learning and innovation skills in their objectives and activities in lesson plans and the English teacher taught the students by inserting the learning and innovation skills. However, the teachers faced problems especially in choosing appropriate materials for their students who are in different levels of abilities.Keyword: 21st century skills, learning and innovation skills

<p>This study emphasizes the use of language shift in the English language teaching classroom. Language shift is a common phenomenon in multilingual conversations, in this case, in the teaching and learning process in language classrooms. The purposes of the study are to find out the use and the roles of language shift in EFL classrooms, how the roles contributed to the Teaching English as Foreign Language in the EFL, and how the language shift affects the process of teaching and in the EFL classroom. The study employed a qualitative approach by using interview and classroom observations as the instruments of the research. The study was a case study in the teaching and learning process of Grammar III to the second-grade students of English department in Universitas Galuh Ciamis. The findings of the study revealed that using language shift while learning and teaching English is useful in the process of teaching and learning English as a foreign language, in this case in the subject of Grammar III subject; and that code-switching as one of the kinds of language shift is necessary and inevitable in language classrooms.</p>

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesiapan guru dan peserta didik dalam pembelajaran daring di SD Inpres Lae-Lae 2, serta mengetahui proses pembelajaran daring di SD Inpres Lae-Lae 2. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru dan peserta didik kelas IV. Pengumpulan data diambil melalui observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi. Penulis berperan sebagai pewawancara langsung untuk menggali data melalui guru dan peserta didik kelas IV. Hasil penelitian kesiapan guru dalam pembelajaran daring pada masa pandemi covid-19 di SD Inpres Lae-Lae 2 ini menunjukkan terlaksana dengan baik. Walaupun pembelajaran ini dilakukan dengan daring, guru tetap membuat RPP, mempersiapkan bahan ajar dan media pembelajaran sebelum memulai proses pembelajaran. Dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran daring kesiapan peserta didik juga sudah terlaksana dengan baik, karena mereka sudah mempersiapkan apa saja yang dibutuhkan dalam pembelajaran daring, seperti buku, pulpen, dan handphone. Dalam pelaksanaan proses pembelajaran daring ini aplikasi yang digunakan adalah whatsapp dan zoom, adapun kendala yang ditemukan guru dan peserta didik yaitu kurang stabilnya jaringan internet sehingga mengalami kesulitan dalam belajar. This study aims to determine the readiness of teachers and students in online learning at SD Inpres Lae-Lae 2, and to determine the online learning process at SD Inpres Lae-Lae 2. This study is qualitative research with a case study method. The subjects in this study were teachers and fourth grade students. Data collection was taken through observation, interviews, and documentation. The author acts as a direct interviewer to collect data through teachers and fourth grade students. The results showed that the readiness of teachers in online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic at the Inpres Lae-Lae 2 Elementary School was carried out well. Although learning is done online, the teacher continues to plan learning by making online lesson plans, preparing teaching materials in the form of learning media and preparing teaching materials before the learning process takes place. In the implementation of this online learning process, the applications used are whatsapp and zoom, while the obstacles found by teachers and students are the unstable internet connection so that they experience difficulties in learning.

This research aims to analyze motivational strategies in teaching English as foreign language at 7th grade of Junior High School 7 Kuningan and to analyze students‟ attitudes towards motivational strategies that were applied by teachers in teaching EFL. The researchers used qualitative research by using classroom observation, interview, and questionnaires. The result taken from classroom observation and interview show teacher 1 and teacher 3 applied motivational strategies completely based on the phases of motivational strategies. Thus, the students responded these strategies positively. On the other hand, teacher 2 applied motivational strategies incompletely because the teacher missed the first phases. This was responded negatively by students. Therefore, the students were actively involved in teaching and learning process conducted by teacher 1 and teacher 2, but the students were passively involved in teaching and learning process conducted by teacher 2. Furthermore, the result taken from questionnaires shows that students gave positive attitudes towards the teacher 1 (88.25%), teacher 2 (79.02%), and teacher 3 (85.71%). Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the way the teachers applied motivational strategies in teaching EFL determined students‟ attitudes towards motivational strategies applied by teachers in teaching EFL.Keywords: motivational strategies, phases of motivational strategies, students attitudes, teaching EFL

The purpose of this study is to find why adult learners are unable to speak English as Foreign language (EFL) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Moreover, it tests the pedagogy of adopting the strategy of Digital Story Telling (DST) in teaching English as a foreign language. The study is applied on Northern Boarder University as a case study. The first question raised in this study is whether the conventional methods of teaching are the reason behind their failure of speaking the English language and whether the modification in the pedagogy of teaching affects the learners' speaking skill. To this end, data are collected through a questionnaire. Furthermore, a model of a teaching program, based on using DST strategy, is improved and tested with a group of learners at the chosen university in Saudi Arabia. The findings reveal that the learners at the selected university find difficulty in speaking English, and that applying DST as a pedagogy help the students to develop their overall speaking skill. These findings assist EFL teachers in Saudi Arabia in creating a conducive atmosphere in and out their classes, which will motivate the learners a lot to speak English fluently. The conclusion of the research recommends that EFL teachers should modify their conventional methods of teaching English as a foreign language; they may apply the strategy of using DST on their students to test the competence of the hypothesis.

Over past few decades, research on authentic materials has been focused on helping teachers provide their learners� teaching materials. Most of the researches in this area explore the benefits and drawbacks of authentic materials utilization in the classroom. This multiple case study aims at investigating benefits of and barriers in using authentic materials presented as a digital media used in their EFL classrooms. Document and an interview were employed to reveal the teachers� perception. The findings indicate although it was considered difficult to find and organize, digitized authentic materials helped teachers in teaching English as a Foreign Language for learners with various levels and backgrounds. Its use could help teachers motivate and promote their students� interest in learning. However, disselection and misuse of it might not meet students� needs and interest in learning. Good teachers� capacity in finding and using the digitized authentic materials could encourage better learning process and students� better learning achievement. Therefore, it is recommended that for the further study, learners� perception also need to be explored.

The research aims to analyze the online learning process during the Covid-19 pandemic in SDIT Luqman Al-Hakim Sleman. This research uses qualitative research with the type of case study.  Research to analyze the online learning process during pandemic Covid-19 in SDIT Luqman Al-Hakim Sleman. Data and data sources in this study have basic data and supporting data. The technique for data retrieval in this study is using interviews, then observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques conducted with data reduction, data presentation, and withdrawal of conclusions (verification). The results of the research of SDIT Luqman Al-Hakim in assisting teachers to prepare online-based learning, by providing subsidies in the form of Internet quota to each teacher, the school gives this help to see online learning requires Internet data, besides the school also provides the account of the school institution. Various distance learning media used is 1) WhatsApp, 2) Zoom Meeting, 3) Google Form, 4) Youtube

ABSTRACTThe present study examined the effectiveness of Google Classroom media in teaching English for tourism students at a private Tourism and Business Institute in Bali during mandatory online learning in 2020. The study was qualitative research, implementing the QAIT model for evaluating the effectiveness of Google Classroom in teaching English, involving four lecturers and 42 students. The data were collected through observations of the teaching-learning process in two classes and interviews with the lecturers. The researchers were the primary research instrument, supported by interview guides and an observation checklist. In general, the use of Google Classroom in these English for Tourism classes was only sufficiently effective, with only one lecturer performing well, two lecturers performing sufficiently, and one lecturer performing insufficiently. Obstacles identified among the students were lousy internet connection, lack of device, low motivation, and lack of readiness in using the online learning platform. In conclusion, the implementation of Google Classroom in the observed English Classroom was proven to be only sufficient. This conclusion implies the need for more training for teachers in using Google Classroom to improve the quality, appropriateness, incentive, and time-effectiveness of the teaching and learning process, especially in online learning. ABSTRAKPenelitian ini mengamati efektivitas media Google Classroom dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris untuk mahasiswa pariwisata di Institut Pariwisata dan Bisnis swasta di Bali selama pembelajaran online wajib tahun 2020. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif, mengimplementasikan model QAIT untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas Google Classroom di pengajaran bahasa Inggris, yang melibatkan empat dosen dan 42 mahasiswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi proses belajar mengajar di kedua kelas dan wawancara dengan dosen. Peneliti bertindak sebagai instrumen penelitian utama, didukung oleh pedoman wawancara dan daftar periksa observasi. Secara umum penggunaan Google Classroom pada kelas Bahasa Inggris untuk Pariwisata ini baru cukup efektif, dengan hanya satu dosen yang berprestasi baik, dua dosen berprestasi cukup, dan satu dosen dirasa kurang memadai. Kendala yang ditemukan pada siswa adalah koneksi internet yang buruk, kurangnya perangkat, motivasi yang rendah, dan kurangnya kesiapan dalam menggunakan platform pembelajaran online. Kesimpulannya, penerapan Google Classroom di Kelas Bahasa Inggris yang diamati terbukti hanya cukup. Kesimpulan ini menyiratkan perlunya lebih banyak pelatihan bagi guru dalam menggunakan Google Classroom untuk meningkatkan kualitas, kesesuaian, insentif, dan efektivitas waktu proses belajar mengajar, terutama dalam pembelajaran online.
