The aim of the study is to determine how the aspects of conversational interactions are realized in the conversation. The researcher collects and analyzes data by applied qualitative content analysis through documentation technique. The data of this study were the utterances while the source of data is a video of the interview between the interviewer (Kevan Kenney) and the interviewee (Agnez Monica a.k.a Agnez Mo) in Build Talk Show. The source of the data was downloaded from the official Youtube channel of Build Talk Show with a duration of 27:03 minutes. The data analysis is based on the theory of conversation analysis proposed by Paltridge. The results of this study show that the interviewer (Kevan Kenney) employed the aspects of conversational interactions in asking and responding to the questions of the interviewee. The aspects of conversational interactions such as opening conversation, adjacency pairs, preference organization, turn taking, and feedback were used. Where as, closing conversation and repair categories were not used by interviewer throughout the conversation. On the other hand, the interviewee used Turn Taking, Feedback and Repair, but Opening and Closing Conversation, Adjacency Pairs, and Preference Organization were not used by the interviewee throughout the conversation. So, five of seven aspects of conversational interactions in conversation are applied. Those aspects of conversational interactions are realized in this conversation because it is the standard in conversation, and the interviewer and interviewee applied the aspects of conversational interactions in order to seek the information from the interviewee, to give the clarification of the issues and make a good communication in that conversation.

<em>The aims of this research are to identify and analyze how the aspects of conversational interactions are realized in the conversation. In collecting and analyzing the data, the researcher uses documentation method and qualitative content analysis. The utterances which used by the interviewer and interviewees are as the data of this research, while the video of the interview which downloaded from Youtube with 29:44 minutes is as the source of data in this research. The data are analyzed by using Paltridge theory. This research results are, five aspects of conversational interactions are used by the interviewer (Peter Vanillin) such as, Opening Conversation, Adjacency Pairs, Preference Organization, Turn Taking and Closing Conversation, while the interviewer does not use Feedback and Repair. However, five of seven aspects are used by the interviewees (Paul Kelly and Julia Gillard) such as, Adjacency Pairs, Preference Organization, Turn Taking, Feedback and Repair, while the interviewees do not use Opening and Closing Conversation. Thus, all of seven aspects of conversational interactions are used with different realization. The realization of those aspects of conversational interactions used by the interviewer and interviewees are different. The interviewer does not use Feedback and Repair, while the interviewees do not use Opening and Closing Conversation.</em>

Communicating to others towards text which is as the result of discourse is everyone need. In producing text, there are some factors affected. Context which is one important influential factor needs to be analyzed. On the other hand, conversation as a media of exchanging meaning among the speakers are done in order to fulfill speaker aim. Pragmatics that learns meaning is seen as the best media to learn meaning produced by both speakers related to the context. By using interactional sociolinguistics, as a part of conversation analysis in pragmatics, this approach takes pragmatic and sociolinguistics aspects of interaction, as well as adjacency pairs, turn-taking and sequences, giving importance to the way that language is situated in particular circumstances in social life. Based on the analysis done, it maps out that interactional talk claiming common ground with vague reference as a marker of both speaker friendship. Comprehending the striking role of Conversation Analysis (CA) research in a real context on the one hand, and a substantial part doctors play in doctor-patient conversation in the proceeding stages of receiving medical intensive care as an inherent nature of society on the other hand, provoked the researchers to conduct this research. To achieve this intention, the present study focuses on conversation aspects of doctor-patient talks in unconfirmed cases of COVID-19 in Golpayegan, Esfahan, Iran. This study tries to find out what conversation aspects are more frequently used by Iranian interlocutors in the context of the doctors’ office. Three doctor-patient meetings, for this purpose, were audio-recorded, then transcribed. The focus is on both the talk and nonverbal aspects of conversation to be analyzed. After doing the conversation analysis, it was found that turn-taking was the most frequently used conversation aspect. Because this investigation is among the first conversation analysis research which is conducted in the Iranian doctor-patient context in COVID-19 setting, it seems outstanding. In addition, as teaching conversation analysis to students in parallel with other outstanding skills, sub-skills, and language components has great importance, and the analysis method utilized in the current research is conversation analysis, this study sounds prominent.

This research aims to identify the types and reasons of interruption uttered by host and the guests in Sarah Sechan talk show. To answer the objectives of the research, the researcher used conversation analysis approach. The data were the utterances that contain the interruption from the conversation in Sarah Secham Talk Show Net TV. The findings showed that there were four types of interruption employed by the host and guests, i.e. simple interruption, overlap interruption, silent interruption and butting-in interruption. From 56 data found in the talk show, simple interruption had the biggest number of occurrence with 37.50%. Simple interruption was the most appearing type in this talk show because each guest in every episode mainly gives his/her floor to the interrupter, which is the host, Sarah sechan even though his/her utterance was disrupted. The smallest number of interruption’s type was butting-in interruption with only 5.35%. The host or the guests seldom do butting-in interruption because they give a chance to the interrupter to deliver his/her message. To decide the reason of interruption, the writer looked at the context of the discussion between the host and the guests. The common reason was Completing with 35.71% and the other reason was showing agreement, seeking clarification, correcting, breaking up, and reject some point. From all of this reason the writer conclude that the interruptions in this talk-show were not violation. Keywords: conversation analysis; interruptionn; Sarah Sechan Talk

In this paper, the author first records, transcribes, and then analyses a short extract from an English conversation among three graduate students with different cultural backgrounds. It aims to analyse several aspects of conversation analysis; turn-taking, topic change, preference organisation, listing, use of figurative language, face saving, breakdowns and repairs, and dysfluency. The data analysis shows that there is an interesting feature occurs concerning to overlapping during conversation. Moreover, dysfluency is also one of noticeable features which exist regularly during the conversation. However, the figurative language that is expected to emerge during talk among different cultural background cannot be figured out because the participants tend to avoid using such complex and idiomatic language structure.

This study aims to know the pattern of teacher – student conversation in English class in a single sex class. The data were obtained from a private Islamic bilingual high school Jombang. The study used qualitative approach. The data are based on the observations of the classroom and video recordings during three meetings in each class (female and male class). The theory used in the study was conversational analysis proposed by Paul Ten Have. There are four types of conversation analysis. They are turn – taking organization, sequence organization, repair organization, and preference organization. The result showed that the highest number of conversation analysis type was turn – taking organization followed by sequence organization (adjacency pairs) and the preference organization and the lowest number was repair organization. The pattern of teacher student conversation was influenced by several factors such as the topics discussed, the teaching – learning method used by the teacher, the rules of Islamic regulations and the teacher’s strategy in giving extra score to the students. Method. From the results it can be concluded that there were no marked differences of the pattern of teacher – student conversation found in the class of female student and male student only. The teacher had succeeded in the teaching and learning process without considering the gender of the students.

This study attempts to uncover what the recurring patterns of interaction in informal conversations are. It is also interested in finding out which recurring patterns of interaction dominate in informal conversations and how these recurring patterns of interaction play out in informal conversations. Data used in the study includes only recordings of naturally occurring conversations of close friends in informal settings. The researcher meticulously transcribed the data using the conventions proposed in the Jefferson Notation System. In Conversation Analysis (CA), transcription is part of data analysis. The transcription/analysis reveals that four main recurring patterns characterize informal conversations among friends: Adjacency Pairs, Topic Change, Figurative Language and Dysfluency. The study further reveals the fact that Adjacency pairs is a very dominant recurring pattern in friendly informal conversations. As a form of turn-taking, Adjacency pairs largely characterized the conversations compared to the other three recurring patterns. Finally, the study underscores the fact that friendly informal conversations stay focused on selected topics with very little or no change of topic. Mid-way between the little or no topic change and the dominance of Adjacency pairs are dysfluencies and rhetorical questions. This journal entitled Organization of Conversation Analysis in Talk Show (Hillary Clinton on The Ellen Show) was directed to answer two questions: (1) which parts of organization-of-conversation occur in the talk show (Hillary Clinton on The Ellen Show) (2) how is the dominant part of the Organization-of-Conversation relevant to the Talk Show (Hillary Clinton on The Ellen Show). The data of this study were taken from the YouTube channel of The Ellen Show. The data were analyzed using qualitative method in which every sample found in the conversation was described based on their categories in the Organization-of-Conversation. The theory used in analyzing the data was based on the Management of Organization-of-Conversation taken from the book entitled Pragmatics (1983) by Levinson. All parts of Organization-of-Conversation which consist of turn-taking, adjacency pair, overall organization and repair were found in the conversation. Each part was dominating on its own role and affected greatly by the type of the conversation, that is, talk show. For example, the Turn-taking’s A-B-A-B pattern works well in the flow of the conversations since the conversation only consist of two people and the turn of the talking is clear since it was arranged based on the question sheet.

AbstractThis paper examines a televised interview that BBC journalist and show host Clive Anderson conducted with the former head of state of the dissolved USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, assisted by the interpreter Pavel Palazchenko. The paper explores this interview, focusing on its opening and closing, its local organization, and the involvement of the audience. Applying conversation analysis, the paper traces the generic belonging of current talk and looks into a variety of features that shaped the image of Gorbachev as a television personality in British TV. It demonstrates how Gorbachev and Anderson moved between and played with a ‘talk show interview’ and a ‘news interview’ framing of interaction. The analysis demonstrates how the encounter helped portray Gorbachev as a witty and adequate performer, irrespective of the fact that he did not speak English—the language of the broadcast and of the viewers. This was due to what he said, but no less to how he performed, and not least to his way of utilizing the assistance of the highly skilled interpreter, and also, I will argue, to the fact that the interview allowed him to take part in a shared game of entertainment, in a genuinely hybrid form of talk.

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this research is to analyze the rules realized of  turn taking strategies in the Ellen talk show which every conversation always occurs the turn taking to make conversation flows well. In this case the aim of this research is to convey the rules realized of turn taking strategies use by them. The Method of this research use qualitative method. The research question will be answered in analytical description. The collected turn taking strategies is picked up randomly then classified based on the same type. The turn taking strategies is analyzed by using Miles and Huberman and Saldana to see the turn taking which mostly occurs in conversation. The result of this research shows that there are hundred eighty seven data collected from random sampling, those collected data resulted three rules of turn taking strategies: 1.If the current speaker has selected, a particular next speaker, then that speaker should take a turn at the place. 2.If no such selection has been made, then any next speaker may (but need not) self-selection occur, then first speaker has the right to the turn. 3. If no speaker has been selected, unless another speaker may, but need not, continue talking with another turn constructional unit, unless  another speaker has self-selected in which case that speaker gains to the right to the turn found in that conversationKeywords: Conversation Analysis, Turn Taking Strategies, Miles Huberman and Saldana, Talk Show.
