To be and become the person we truly are is a pervasive theme in third force psychology. In this paper, I succinctly summarize how we become ourselves by focusing on 5 distinct dimensions of personality functioning. Freeing oneself from an idealized self-image and experiencing the real self is seen as a beginning phase. A cognitive restructuring involving modifying internalized value orientations is then stressed. Assuming responsibility for one's choices and initiating self-direction is encouraged to develop authentic personhood. The growing person is conceptualized as being open to inner experiences and viewing one's life as a fluid process involving change and risk taking. Finally, vitality is generated and sustained by receptivity to one's inner life.

In the offered article near implementation of attempt of theoretical justification of aspects of manifestation of crisis of identity of persons of teenage age, results of an empirical research of psychological signs of crisis of identity and its indicators in the period of public uncertainty are presented. Definition of a concept crisis of identity is considered as the conflict between elements of component structure of identity that at a stage of crisis of identity is developed around transition from a form of children's identity to acquisition and understanding of the acquired her qualitatively new form. The research of psychological signs and features of manifestation of crisis of identity of teenage age is chosen the purpose of article. Empirical results of crisis aspects of identity are given behind the defining level self-relations teenagers and behind the level of contradictions of component structure of identity of the faces embodied in them «Self-Concept» at a stage of experience of crisis of identity. The scheme of dynamics of change of identity is provided. It is emphasized that crisis of identity is loss of actually previously acquired form of children's identity, at the expense of a disorientation of the teenager and reduction to system search of new components to his «Self-image», on condition of their coordination with an identification matrix of the person. It is claimed that crisis of identity understands as a concept: first of all, change of an identification matrix which leads to difficulty and violation of identifications of the individual; aggravation of contradictions between «Real-Self» and «ldeal-Self». As a result of a research the main differences in structure of identity of teenagers of thirteen and fourteen years at a stage of crisis of identity are revealed and indicators of crisis of identity of teenagers of the studied groups are allocated.

Demands for a high-level development of foreign language reading comprehension skills and competences are now escalating and processing of foreign language text information is a matter of course. Pupils and teachers are faced with the need to work with textual information in more complicated ways, in which self-esteem plays an important role. This paper analyses learners’ success of reading comprehension in foreign language and real self-esteem in acquiring those skills. Self-esteem helps to promote language self-confidence, the learner’s level of aspiration, and adjustment to perception of foreign language structure. As long as the learner does not really perceive themselves (real “self”), it is difficult to talk about understanding lexical meanings and their real perception of grammatical structures in the text. The research goal was to find differences in self-esteem and success in foreign language reading comprehension skills with respect to categories of comprehension (specifically: I always understand everything; I have a lot of problems with text understanding; specifically: I experience difficulties with understanding unknown words; problem with understanding long sentences; difficulty with understanding the unfamiliar topic of the text; pictures help me in understanding; guiding questions help me in understanding). The research question was whether the self-image of learners in relation to the skill of foreign language reading comprehension is realistic given their real success in this skill. The research was carried out in the Slovak Republic on a sample of 327 respondents and found differences in subjective perception of understanding and success in reading comprehension skills. The research showed a low real self image of learners especially in categories of global character in respect to the average understanding of foreign language texts.

Summary: My comment is basically restricted to the situation in which less-able students find themselves and refers only to literature in German. From this point of view I am basically able to confirm Marsh's results. It must, however, be said that with less-able pupils the opposite effect can be found: Levels of self-esteem in these pupils are raised, at least temporarily, by separate instruction, academic performance however drops; combined instruction, on the other hand, leads to improved academic performance, while levels of self-esteem drop. Apparently, the positive self-image of less-able pupils who receive separate instruction does not bring about the potential enhancement of academic performance one might expect from high-ability pupils receiving separate instruction. To resolve the dilemma, it is proposed that individual progress in learning be accentuated, and that comparisons with others be dispensed with. This fosters a self-image that can in equal measure be realistic and optimistic.

Abstract. Background: Suicide rates in older men are higher than in the general population, yet their utilization of mental health services is lower. Aims: This study aimed to describe: (a) what primary care providers (PCPs) can do to prevent late-life suicide, and (b) older men's attitudes toward discussing suicide with a PCP. Method: Thematic analysis of interviews focused on depression and suicide with 77 depressed, low-socioeconomic status, older men of Mexican origin, or US-born non-Hispanic whites recruited from primary care. Results: Several themes inhibiting suicide emerged: it is a problematic solution, due to religious prohibition, conflicts with self-image, the impact on others; and, lack of means/capacity. Three approaches to preventing suicide emerged: talking with them about depression, talking about the impact of their suicide on others, and encouraging them to be active. The vast majority, 98%, were open to such conversations. An unexpected theme spontaneously arose: "What prevents men from acting on suicidal thoughts?" Conclusion: Suicide is rarely discussed in primary care encounters in the context of depression treatment. Our study suggests that older men are likely to be open to discussing suicide with their PCP. We have identified several pragmatic approaches to assist clinicians in reducing older men's distress and preventing suicide.
