The purpose of this study is to research the relationship between academic self-efficacy of prospective physical education and sports teachers and their attitudes towards the Turkish Education History course. The study population consisted of 880 prospective teachers who study at the department of physical education and sports at Ege, 9 Eylül, Süleyman Demirel, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Yozgat Bozok and Erciyes Universities and took the Turkish Education History course and the sample group consisted of 182 individuals who were selected randomly from such population. In the collection of data, the Personal Information Form developed by the researcher, the academic self-efficacy scale developed by Jerusalem and Schwarzer (1981) and adapted to Turkish by Yılmaz et al. (2007), and the attitude scale for the Turkish Education History course developed by Kamer and Şimşek (2016) were used. The data obtained in the study were analyzed in computer environment. Number, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used as descriptive statistical methods to evaluate the data. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was applied to continuous variables of the study. As a result, a positive relationship was found between the academic self-efficacy of prospective physical education teachers and their attitudes towards the Turkish Education History course. It is believed that this is due to the perspectives indicating that transferring this to academic development of prospective teachers who are in a phase of transition to professional life, and to development of new generations in their professional careers is important.

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between academic self-efficacy and cognitive flexibility levels of physical education and sports teacher candidates. The universe of the study consisted of 480 teacher candidates studying in the physical education and sports teaching departments of the sports sciences faculties within Selçuk, Erciyes, Süleyman Demirel and Mehmet Akif Ersoy Universities, and the sample group consisted of 192 volunteers from the specified population. Participants in the study were asked to fill in a personal information form, academic self-efficacy and cognitive flexibility scales. IBM SPSS 22.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) statistical package program was used to analyze the data. Arithmetic means and standard deviations of the scores of the volunteers from the scales were presented as X±Sd. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analysis was applied to reveal the relationship of the data obtained from the scales. The value of p<0,05 was considered significant. As a result, it was determined that the academic self-efficacy and cognitive flexibility levels of physical education and sports teacher candidates were above average. A moderate positive correlation was found between academic self-efficacy and alternatives and control subtitles of cognitive flexibility and total of cognitive flexibility. It is thought that this situation is due to the ability of physical education and sports teacher candidates to transfer their experiences in sports life to their education life.

In order to collect data, the Google Forms platform was preferred in order to maintain social distance during the pandemic process. During the data collection process, information and questionnaires about the study were communicated to the participants through social networks. Volunteers who participated in the study were asked to fill in the personal information form, academic self-efficacy and distance education perception scales. The data obtained in the study were analyzed in computer environment. Variables are expressed by using mean ± standard deviation, percentage and frequency values. Pearson product moments correlation analysis (r) was applied to reveal the relationships between the scales. For the significance level of the tests, p<0.05 and p<0.01 values were accepted. As a result, it was determined that the academic self-efficacy and distance education perception levels of physical education and sports teacher candidates were above the average. Between the academic self-efficacy and perception of distance education. A low level positive relationship was found. It is thought that this situation is caused by the concerns of physical education and sports teacher candidates, who are accustomed to the face-to-face transfer of knowledge and skills related to the teaching models of sportive skills, to the transition to distance education and to the problems that may occur in this process and not to learn the necessary knowledge and skills related to their professional development. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using a personal computer. Numbers, percentages, mean values and standard deviations were used as descriptive statistical methods in the data analysis. Pearson correlation analysis was applied to the continuous variables of the study. As a result, a positive correlation was found between physical education teacher candidates’ self-efficacy and attitudes towards the course of sports history. It can be suggested that this tendency stems from teacher candidates’ academic development during their education as a university student, which is a transition to a professional life, and their belief in the importance of transferring their academic development to younger generations during their professional career.
